Ralph once again welcomes Chuck Collins, heir to the Oscar Meyer fortune and one of the founders of Patriotic Millionaires, to discuss his agenda for reform outlined in his new book BURNED BY BILLIONAIRES: How Concentrated Wealth and Power Are Ruining Our Lives and Planet. Then Sarah Moskowitz, Executive Director of the Citizens Utility Board of Illinois (CUB), joins us to tell us how to fight back against AI data centers that are spiking your electric bills.Chuck Collins directs the Charity Reform Initiative at the Institute for Policy Studies, where he also co-edits Inequality.org. He co-founded the Patriotic Millionaires and United for a Fair Economy, and he is the author of Born on Third Base and The Wealth Hoarders: How Billionaires Pay Millions to Hide Trillions. His new book is Burned by Billionaires: How Concentrated Wealth and Power Are Ruining Our Lives and Planet. There's a number of examples of how we could create a decency floor that many societies have (including, obviously, Canada) that you can't fall below those levels. Same with education, access to education. These are universal opportunity programs that good societies maintain. You raise the floor and you create a level playing field. But the reality is we're not going to get any of those if we don't address this concentration of wealth and power, which is essentially blocking us from moving toward these reforms we're talking about.Chuck CollinsSarah Moskowitz is Executive Director of the Citizens Utility Board, a nonprofit, nonpartisan group with the mission to fight for the rights of customers of investor-owned electric, gas and telecom utilities across Illinois. That's part of what we're really proud of here at CUB Illinois is that you can reach a human. You might have to leave a message, but we will call you back and answer your questions and then talk through what's really going on.Sarah MoskowitzA lot of our work at CUB is just helping people connect the dots behind the policies that are resulting in these really high bills. It's shrouded in mystery and it's dry. It's boring. You don't want to think about it after you've been working all day. And that's why we're here—to keep tabs on all that stuff and help illuminate that for folks…And it's a moving target. Things are happening at the state level. Things are happening at the federal level. And so when you're looking at your bill, it's a culmination of a whole spectrum of jurisdictions and a whole spectrum of regulators making decisions, each having an impact on what you pay every month in a different way. And it's quite overwhelming.Sarah MoskowitzMore Show Notes:CUB ProjectUtility Consumers Action NetworkCub Model Law Get full access to Ralph Nader Radio Hour at www.ralphnaderradiohour.com/subscribe
Send us a textThe bums reconvene in the rail yard with S5:0142, on the top, as Paddy and Rocky return un-killed from their Lambeau experience and the Bears heartbreaking loss (cliff notes: fuck the Packers); Cole “Falling Down” Kmet has issues; NFL Week in review highlighting the Colts brand new old grandpa QB (and Cam Newton is butt sore); Just Herbert just wants to chill with his homies after an OT loss (social media ain't having it); Ann Arbor is on suicide watch— for good reason; potential Michigan coaching replacements; IU football news; ND can seriously go fuck themselves OR, OR, they can join a conference; MLB HOF chatter ensures as Barry Bonds may go the way of Pete Rose; and close the top half with a buyout for the ages. The flop pops off with another miraculous beer review with “Slim Hazy” (ABV 5.5%) from Mikerphone Brewing, a dynamite Double Dry Hopped Pale Ale that pleases the palate; Paddy saves two-thirds of the bums from the jaws of almost certain death (it's a trap!); you may hate the Packers but it's impossible to hate the Lambeau experience; Eddie rips Rotten Apple with another SIMS installment; Old Irving Brewing's 2025 Krampus Market dazzles; and in an unexpected kind gesture, Paddy has a kind word for a former Cub. Jed's back to rebuilding his bullpen and his first spare part is actually more accomplished than the guys he normally drags off the scrap heap. Praz and Oleg drop by to talk about the bullpen, about the Cardinals trade of Sonny Gray and whether they'll also try to move Willson Contreras. The guys find an interesting new home for Pete Alonso and think the Marlins being pressured to add payroll would make a Sandy Alcantara trade easier for them, not harder. They also try to guess which Cub will settle for one of Jed's extensions. And they come up with a ridiculous new pinch runner rule. All that, and more.
We're Opi-less again and I'm not sure we're getting better atthis but we're having fun. This was just Bear and the Boys and we had a good time just talking shit. What we cover: The Campaign, predictions, Bear's poor memory, monotone, bowling, Boom, flavored Red Bull, MNF chat, Bust, Sleeper, and Step Brothers. For your NFL song viewing, we have a little lingerie football video that will satisfy the male listeners a little too much. The 3 Turkey Day games while there's a small invasion known as Haley. We bring it down a little talking about some questionable trading now occurring in theFBFL. Chat a few injuries, Grady Jarrett and his dad, and how we feel the Bears are going to finish this season. Then, finish with a little Cub talk again. Fun time with the kids!YouTube Link: OatB Ep 203 WK 12 As God as My Witness, Ithought Opi was Taller

Frank Miller is regarded as one of the most influential and awarded creators. He began his career in comics in the late 1970s, first gaining notoriety as the artist, and later writer, of Daredevil for Marvel Comics. Next, came the science-fiction samurai drama Ronin, followed by the groundbreaking Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One with artist David Mazzuchelli. Following these seminal works, Miller fulfilled a lifelong dream by doing an all-out crime series, Sin City, which spawned two blockbuster films that he co-directed with Robert Rodriguez. Miller's multi-award-winning graphic novel 300 was also adapted into a highly successful film by Zack Snyder. His upcoming memoir, Push the Wall: My Life, Writing, Drawing, and the Art of Storytelling, is now available for pre-order.This episode is brought to you by: Eight Sleep Pod Cover 5 sleeping solution for dynamic cooling and heating: EightSleep.com/Tim (use code TIM to get $350 off your very own Pod 5 Ultra.)Shopify global commerce platform, providing tools to start, grow, market, and manage a retail business: https://shopify.com/tim (one-dollar-per-month trial period)AG1 all-in-one nutritional supplement: DrinkAG1.com/Tim (1-year supply of Vitamin D (and 5 free AG1 travel packs) with your first subscription purchase.)Timestamps:[00:00:00] Start.[00:02:14] Aristotle's definition of happiness: Devotion to excellence.[00:03:02] Tools of the trade: Blackwing pencils, India ink, liquid frisket.[00:04:45] Sin City‘s physical creation at “twice up” size.[00:08:06] The toothbrush spatter technique.[00:09:24] Channeling impatience, anger, and violence into dramatic creative work.[00:10:33] What Jack Kirby knew about making comics competitive with cinema's spectacle.[00:11:56] Will Eisner and The Spirit‘s influence on the US market where writer-artist duality is rare.[00:13:33] How Jack Kirby blasted apart the panel grid (and a young Frank's mind).[00:15:49] Push the wall and defy the code.[00:19:54] The ruthless mentorship of Neal Adams.[00:24:57] The genesis of the Elektra amd Daredevil “soap opera.”[00:27:56] Story structure: Start late, end early.[00:29:10] Trusting the muse over rigid methodology.[00:31:15] European invasion: Moebius and Forbidden Planet.[00:32:52] Japanese influence: Lone Wolf and Cub‘s impact.[00:34:30] Cultural differences in depicting violence and motion.[00:36:38] Ronin: Shameless imitation and rebirth.[00:37:28] How does Frank know if something is working (or not working)?[00:39:27] The critical reception of Ronin as a “broken nose.”[00:42:37] The ruthless structure of The Dark Knight Returns.[00:43:40] Mutual elevation with “smartest fan” Alan Moore.[00:48:26] Robert Rodriguez: Angel of goodwill and generosity.[00:49:28] Sin City film: Co-directing and the Director's Guild sacrifice.[00:50:31] Working as a “two-headed beast” with Rodriguez.[00:55:27] Favorite films.[00:58:19] Books and ancient history inspiring 300.[00:59:00] Hollywood lessons: The importance of working with the right people.[01:01:13] The partnership and guidance of Silenn Thomas.[01:02:01] The clarity and creative rejuvenation of getting sober from alcohol.[01:04:48] Advice for aspiring comic artists: Story, story, story.[01:06:20] Learning to draw: Bridgman and Loomis books.[01:08:07] Perspective as a mathematical trick and lie.[01:11:00] Dick Giordano's advice: Lay in blacks first.[01:13:52] Sin City workflow innovation: Batch processing stages.[01:15:48] Dark Horse Comics and creative freedom.[01:17:29] Economy of line work and elegant minimalism.[01:20:46] On collaborating with Bill Sienkiewicz on Elektra.[01:25:20] Billboard wisdom: “Ask every question,” and “Why?”[01:27:08] Challenging pathological conformity.[01:27:39] Parting thoughts and where to find Frank's work.*For show notes and past guests on The Tim Ferriss Show, please visit tim.blog/podcast.For deals from sponsors of The Tim Ferriss Show, please visit tim.blog/podcast-sponsorsSign up for Tim's email newsletter (5-Bullet Friday) at tim.blog/friday.For transcripts of episodes, go to tim.blog/transcripts.Discover Tim's books: tim.blog/books.Follow Tim:Twitter: twitter.com/tferriss Instagram: instagram.com/timferrissYouTube: youtube.com/timferrissFacebook: facebook.com/timferriss LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/timferrissSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

NO SHOW TOMORROW - BACK ON WEDNESDAY! Today's word of the day is ‘final four' as in the Mariners as in the Blue Jays as in Seattle as in Toronto as in the ALCS! The Mariners took the first game 3-1 behind great pitching and the big players making big moments. Cal Raleigh homered. Jorge Polanco picked up two RBI. The Blue Jays couldn't hit. Long series though! (19:20) The Dodgers are going with Blake Snell and then Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 2. Where is Ohtani? Well, the Dodgers have a plan for that. What about the Brewers? An opener? (31:30) Let's go back to that Phillies loss. A rushed errant throw by Orion Kerkering was it. A mental mistake for the ages. (36:00) What are the Cubs going to do with Kyle Tucker? Is he a longterm Cub? Is he leaving? (38:30) Review: Play Dirty. (45:00) It looks like Albert Pujols is likely to become the next manager of the Los Angeles Angels. Welp. (50:00) NPPOD. Hope you're glad to hear from us! We're ringing the bell on the door and fighting for our place in rock and roll...podcasts! I can't believe it's true, but we're marching on through They Might Be Giants' 1997 album Factory Showroom, discussing a precious and few three more songs! Your young and pretty hosts discuss the skyscraper highs and sewer grate lows of the titular city. Then the song we play is Your Own Worst Enemy, the short and (bitter)sweet TMBG throwback that leaves us softly weeping. And just when you think it's finished, the XTC Vs. Adam Ant segment is one of the biggest we've ever done. Jordan's love explodes for XTC and both he and Dave find new appreciation for XTC's friend or foe, Adam Ant...and even the singer from Bow Wow Wow! I can't tell you why, you'll have to listen! Ant music for XTC people! XTC music for Ant people!

The #chicagocubs and #sandiegopadres went wire to wire the entire series and just like the first two games, Game 3 came down to the end. The #cubs struck first with a pair of runs and it remained that way until the 7th, when #michaelbusch homered to give the #cubs a 3-0 lead. #jamesontaillon was nails, tossing 4 shutout innings and the bullpen did the rest. The #padres didn't get a good start from former Cub #yudarvish and the #padres spent the rest of the game playing catch-up and chasing innings the rest of the way.Reaction aplenty as #kap and #guff are here for live reaction of the #wildcard series and what happens next with the #chicagocubs.#takethat___________________________

From there, we discuss Anthony Rizzo retiring as a Cub, Mike Elias' promotion and which managers and executives are on the hottest seats with the season coming to an end shortly. To wrap up, we discuss the new Montreal Expos doc and what baseball topics we wanted to see covered in a doc most, and which figures throughout our lives we would most want to see throw out a first pitch at a baseball game.

We believe all neighborhoods deserve to be covered in a meaningful way.We amplify positive stories, cover development and local school council meetings and serve as watchdogs in neighborhoods often ostracized by traditional news media.Ground-level coverageOur neighborhood-based reporters don't parachute in once to cover a story. They are in the neighborhoods they cover every day building relationships over time with neighbors. Jim is joined by Chicago Sports & News Columnist Dave Wischnowsky to discuss the hall of fame candidacy of former MLB first baseman Derrek Lee. First, Dave and Jim cover Lee's legacy on the Chicago Cubs and how he is one of the better Cub players of the 21st Century (8:50). Then, they discuss his 2005 MVP-caliber season, Gil Hodges, and where Lee ranks among the best first basemen of the 2000s (13:10). Finally, they run through how Lee faired against every NL Cy Young winner from 2004-2010 (31:25), before making a final call on whether or not Lee belongs in the HOF (39:38).
Dylan and Max connect from hotel rooms across the West, with Max prepping for his Cub camping trip to Idaho and Dylan testing out foam ear tips for his ProFlight headset (link in the show notes). In the Mailbag, listeners weigh in on commuting trade-offs, a gear-down hydraulic improvisation involving bottled water, and flying under Bravo airspace with “raw dog radios.” Flight Advice tackles a business aviation bait-and-switch: hard days off evaporating into 24/7 on-call duty. The hosts dig into leverage, contracts, and how to sniff out a toxic flight department.
