Hey, this will likely be the last show of the week! We apologize and will return Monday! Today's word of the day is ‘support' as in the Red Sox as in Boston as in Theo Epstein as in Craig Breslow as in John Henry. The Red Sox are not a good team. The Red Sox fired Alex Cora earlier in the season and nothing changed. Are they too analytic? A new report suggest they might be!? (20:08) The Yankees need good news about Aaron Judge. Have to have him healthy. A rib injury is causing shoulder pain in his swing. Yikes. (28:20) What is happening to downtown Dallas? The Stars and Mavericks both announced they would be leaving the area. From two teams to no teams? Every Dallas pro team will be just Dallas in name? (38:50) Review: Ladies First. (42:45) The NBA Finalsnals start tonight. A rematch of 1999. The Knicks vs the Spurs. Wemby vs Brunson! (50:00) NPPOD Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

When people talk about the Chicago Cubs and their historic 2016 World Series victory — ending a 108-year drought — names including players Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, Ben Zobrist, manager Joe Maddon, and president of baseball operations Theo Epstein typically dominate the conversation. One name you rarely hear? Joshua Lifrak. Yet Joshua played a pivotal role in that championship season as the team's mental skills director — helping players perform under extraordinary pressure. And he has the World Series ring to prove it. Today, his arena has shifted from the dugout to the boardroom. As director of performance and coaching at Limitless Minds, he works with executives and business leaders to build mental resilience, sharpen focus, and perform at their best. As Joshua explains this week, peak mental conditioning is a "home run" skill that anyone can learn and practice, regardless of what they do for a living. Len Kasper is starting his sixth season as the Chicago White Sox's radio play-by-play announcer after 16 years as the Cubs' TV play-by-play guy, but he's got another passion: playing bass and writing songs for his band Sonic45. This Chicago all-star five-piece, which features recent Caropop guest Dag Juhlin on guitar, made its debut performance after my 2019 “Talking in Space” conversation with Kasper. Since then, the band, which has had a name change that he explains, has released two albums: Space and Time (2021) and SuperSonic (2024). The sound is muscular and swirling while Kasper's lyrics are vulnerable and revealing. Kasper is open here as well as he discusses whether he dreamt more of being a baseball announcer, player or musician; how the Cubs' “Hot Stove Cool Music” charity concerts fueled his music career; whether he considered singing in Sonic45; and whether it was coincidental that he took the White Sox radio job weeks after Theo Epstein left the Cubs.
