Bob Robinson, godfather of Pellet grills and Joel Bradley, author of Death By Data, plus guest co-host, Chef Ray Sheehan, and feelings are discussed Bob Robinson is the man credited as being the godfather of pellet grills. Born and raised in St. Joseph, Missouri, Bob found his barbecue roots early on and helped create the barrel lid that pellet grills are known for today. Bob won many barbecue competitions while helping raise national awareness for the pellet grill segment. Bob stopped competing in the mid-1990s, but in 1998, he made a cameo appearance on a team with Fast Eddy for the Jack Daniel's World Championship Competition. They were the only team using a pellet grill at that time. Bob discusses his role in the barbeccue industry and more specifically his role in helping the pellet grill become the cooking force it is today. Joel Bradley is a long-time scout and high school coach of future major leaguers Anthony Rizzo, Mike Fiers, Andy Painter, and many others. His latest book, Death By Data: How Analytics And Technology Are Killing Baseball provides an inside look at how traditional player scouting and development have been replaced by a blind faith in algorithms and spreadsheets. The book looks at how we got here—from baseball's obsession with statistics to the surrender to Statcast, high-speed cameras, and other mind-numbing technologies. Ballplayers have gone from flesh and blood and spirit to being a vast collection of numbers measured with invisible rulers. There is much more in the book and in our discussion. For a team that is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year the Cubs haven't had that many regular first basemen in their history, and that's a very good thing. First base has been manned mostly by real Hall of Famers or Utility Tunnel of Famers for much of the team's existence. Andy and Mike D. are here to break them all down from Cap Anson to Frank Chance to Jolly Cholly Grimm to modern day heroes like Mark Grace, Derrek Lee, Anthony Rizzo and Frank Schwindel. Oh, don't worry, there are some bums to make fun of, too.

With so many good questions from listeners, The Athletic’s Sahadev Sharma and Patrick Mooney broke up their latest mailbag into two parts. In this episode, the beat writers analyze the possibility of long-term deals for Pete Crow-Armstrong and Nico Hoerner, and outline the plans for Moisés Ballesteros. Plus, a rundown of some of their favorite interviews over the years at Wrigley Field, and why Anthony Rizzo could be a great broadcaster in his new role.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Jets are already signaling a major change for 2026, with Tanner Engstrand not expected to call plays and Frank Reich emerging as a veteran option to stabilize Aaron Glenn. Evan and Tiki debate whether Reich is a solid move or just another safe hire, and what it says about the Jets hunting for experience over upside. Then the phones light up with more Sam Darnold regret arguments, including why QB mistakes hit harder than the Saquon situation and how the Giants' draft decisions still haunt them. The hour takes a sharp turn into baseball and New York sports hierarchy as Anthony Rizzo introduces Aaron Judge as the “King of New York,” reigniting the Judge vs Jalen Brunson debate. Plus, the Knicks win again, and the guys tease a hilarious Ryan Ruocco moment that got way dirtier than anyone expected.

They are in the neighborhoods they cover every day building relationships over time with neighbors. We believe this ground-level approach not only builds community but leads to a more accurate portrayal of a neighborhood.Stories that matter to you — every daySince our launch five years ago, we've published more than 25,000 stories from the neighborhoods, covered hundreds of community meetings and send daily and neighborhood newsletters to more than 130,000 Chicagoans. RUNDOWN Plenty of sports heartbreak — from the Dolphins' ongoing struggles to the Seahawks' gut-punch opener. But there is relief in the Mariners' explosive bats and the Huskies' video-game offense, before shifting gears to launch the annual Beat the Boys contest, presented by Fireside Home Solutions. Listeners get the scoop on how to re-register, this year's lineup of “the boys” (including a new addition, Jason Puckett), and the all-important first password. Along the way, the guys swap birthday trivia, share a Pink backstory you won't forget, and set the stage for a packed show of Seahawks, Mariners, and college football talk. Mitch and Hotshot dive into the Seahawks' frustrating Week 1 loss to the 49ers, where Sam Darnold's quiet debut and Riq Woolen's costly miscues overshadowed a defense that couldn't quite finish the job. They debate Mike Macdonald's decision to kick on a crucial 4th-and-1, the missing downfield threat without DK Metcalf, and whether Seattle's “smashmouth” identity is more talk than reality. Shifting gears, the guys celebrate the Mariners' offensive eruption — 28 runs over two games — that keeps them two games up in the Wild Card race with 19 left, 13 at home. Hope rises in Seattle, but fans have learned to brace for heartbreak. Mitch welcomes Brady Henderson and Jacson Bevens to dissect Seattle's 17–13 Week 1 loss to the 49ers. The defense largely held its ground, limiting San Francisco to 17 points, but the offense sputtered behind Sam Darnold and a conservative game plan. The panel debates Mike Macdonald's critical fourth-down decision, the ongoing frustrations with cornerback Riq Woolen, and the lack of offensive balance despite Jackson Smith-Njigba's breakout. Mitch sits down with Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas to break down a much-needed rebound weekend for the Mariners. With Julio Rodríguez heating up, a rotation trying to steady itself, and 13 of the final 19 games at home, the M's are still firmly in the postseason race. The crew debates Seattle's playoff odds, the outlook for Jorge Polanco's contract, and the development of young catcher Harry Ford. Plus, they preview crucial upcoming series against the Cardinals and Angels as the AL West chase tightens. Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch to recap an eventful Week 2 in college football, from South Florida's upset of Florida to Oregon's early dominance behind quarterback Dante Moore. The two dive into Florida's coaching hot seat, Jedd Fisch's future at Washington, and why Arch Manning's mechanics and rhythm remain under scrutiny as Texas gears up for the SEC gauntlet. Neuheisel also hands out “Chicken Caesar soft tacos” to standout players and duos across the country before making his Week 3 pick: Texas Tech to roll big over Oregon State.
