It’s the last week of the regular season, and that means all hands on deck. Andrew, David, Bobby and Doyle gather in the Green Room to attack the Tata Martino news from all angles. How should Atlanta United supporters feel? What’s the Argentine’s legacy? Will he exit with a Shield and/or MLS Cup? How did his sheer presence change MLS? MLSsoccer.com bird dog Sam Stejskal joins the show to give his Tata take then guide the guys around the league. How did Dom Kinnear revive the Galaxy? What’s this about naked cartwheels, Chad Marshall? How could a rule change affect Homegrown players all over the US and Canada? We’ve also got your guide to Decision Day presented by AT&T. Who’ll finish where? Who’ll grab the final two spots up for grabs? Who have the look of a playoff team and who might be looking at an early exit. Then, in the mailbag, it’s time to marvel (cough … steal) all your soccer bar ideas! 5:40 – Tata takes: Shield, Playoffs and MLS legacy 12:57 – MLS bird dog Sam Stejskal + naked cartwheels (???) 33:31 – Handicapping the (almost completed) Shield race 44:40 – Who will finish atop the Western Conference? 52:38 – Are the Sounders the quiet favorites out West? 59:50 – Zlatan, Zlatan, Zlatan 1:04:09 – Crew are trending down, but there’s still hope 1:10:20 – How will seeding shape up between NYC, PHI and DC? 1:17:15 – Listeners describe their dream soccer bar 1:25:57 – Would Arsene Wenger be a good MLS hire?
Well that sucked. Jason, Adam, and Ben have to talk about D.C. United's game against the Chicago Fire and how, for the first 10 minutes or so, D.C. United looked decent; it all went down hill from there. We discuss the deflated body language after the own goal, and the poor play of the forwards. We also discuss the pairing in central defense and the role of Jalen Robinson going forward, before trying to end on a positive note and talk about the best thing we saw. In the second segment we talk about D.C. United's upcoming game against the San Jose Earthquakes. We marvel at Chris Wondolowski still being as good as he is and the transition this season from Dom Kinnear to Chris Leitch. We discuss their bench and the fact that they have designated players on it, before discussing how to gameplan for them.
It's Geoff's birthday (yesterday)! What did you get him? Nothing? Oh well. Andrew and David sit down with both Dominic Kinnear and Mauro Biello to cover a range of topics. Dom tells the guy about San Jose's new GM, his first years in coaching, and all about his time at Necaxa. Mauro Biello talks about the TFC playoff series, dealing with star players, coaching in his hometown and more.
This week I talk about the puzzling coaching decisions made by Dom Kinnear. In need of an offensive boost, the Quakes signed Henok Goitom then proceed to plop him on the bench where it is damn near impossible to score. A tie with Seattle at home sealed the season for the Quakes as it looks like the team is in coast mode until next years rebuild.
This is my longest episode to date. I never designed the show to go over 30 minutes but this is a huge week in the Quakes season and a potential new chapter for our beloved Quakes. As you may know by now the Quakes parted ways with GM and Quakes legend John Doyle. This episode I focus on that and what that could mean for the team and coach Dom Kinnear.
Dom Kinnear interview, fan interviews, FC Dallas recap, and looking ahead to NYRB and PTFC.
January camp is over, but that doesn't mean we're done talking about it. This time, though, the discussion centers around a 2-0 victory against Panama that saw Gyasi Zardes prove he belongs, Clint Dempsey do his thing and Michael Bradley notch an olimpico. What you really want to know is what Simon thinks of Miguel Ibarra's performance, and ETR's resident hot-take expert doesn't disappoint. In the second segment, the spotlight turns to MLS, where injuries and signings stole the headlines on Monday. Why is Jermaine Jones having surgery? What's wrong with Eddie Johnson? Who is this centerback the Union just signed? Finally, San Jose boss Dominic Kinnear joins the guys to talk homecomings, DPs and Jurgen Klinsmann. In the mailbag, listeners wonder if Simon soiled himself making noises on the last show, and the conversation, predictably, turns to jam's place in history.
