Unofficially, they have a coach they are set to announce on Monday. Tom Bogert is reporting it, and the team was already teasing an announcement before he broke the story. It looks like it's long rumored Raphael Wicky, who we learned about over a month ago. We give our initial reactions to the news.While that's unofficial, the team did make one official move this week. Sporting KC traded with the Chicago Fire for 21-year-old right back Justin Reynolds. Couple that with the rumored transfer for Cesar Inga and suddenly Sporting KC nearly have enough defenders to actually play a soccer match.Sheena and I weigh in on all the news with preseason set to start next weekend. While not a like-for-like replacement of Brian Gutierrez or famed international talent, Lod bring a toughness, winning pedigree, and consistent on-field performance that the Men in Red will surely benefit from. Lod had a distinguished career with Minnesota United, and his experience in MLS is another factor that benefits Chicago. Nick also looks at the transfers that have been occurring around the league, and rattles them off in lighting-round formt. He notices that DC United quietly is having a producting off-season, signing three starters from within MLS. He's also noticed an increasing trend of intraleague signings. Brad Sherwood, beloved performer from "Whose Line Is It Anyway?", reveals his journey from performing six to seven free improv shows weekly across Los Angeles in three different groups to landing his career-defining television role. Working his way up through Second City's touring company as Ryan Stiles' understudy, Sherwood recounts the brutal five-hour audition with 50 other Los Angeles improvisers—all of whom he knew personally—that would change his life forever. He credits Stiles, who was in the main Second City company, for alerting him that "Whose Line" producers were coming to town and encouraging him to audition. Sherwood explains how the show transformed improv from what's been called "the jazz of comedy"—a basement club art form known only to cool college kids—into mainstream awareness, now taught as curriculum in high schools and elementary drama clubs nationwide. He discusses the challenge improv faced where one bad first experience could turn someone off forever, unlike standup comedy where audiences blame the individual performer rather than the entire art form.The versatile entertainer discusses his 17-year touring partnership with Colin Mochrie, describing their dynamic as "an improv Penn and Teller," and shares his philosophy that every aspect of life is essentially improvised—from conversations that ebb and flow naturally to driving where you know your destination but must adapt moment-by-moment to avoid trucks, rabbits, and other obstacles. Sherwood reveals his approach to character creation, preferring to go with whatever the scene demands rather than relying on pre-planned "angry guy" personas, though he'll occasionally throw on a dialect (which he admits doing "very poorly") to give himself a different perspective. He demonstrates his quick-thinking abilities by engaging in an impromptu wrestling promo, channeling Chris Jericho's mic skills while promoting his "Scared Scriptless" tour (not "Sacred Scriptless" as one might mishear). Beyond improv, Sherwood describes himself as a "Renaissance guy" pursuing music composition, painting, and literary projects while seeking hosting opportunities that showcase his skillset better than playing a fireman on "Chicago Fire," with upcoming tour dates spanning the Midwest, New England, and Eastern seaboard including his May 17th show at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

Historian Dan Vogel breaks down the complex history of the Book of Abraham, beginning with the 1835 purchase of Egyptian mummies in Kirtland, Ohio. Rather than seeing the Kirtland Egyptian Papers as a failed attempt by scribes to understand Egyptian, Vogel argues they were Joseph Smith's own working papers. He demonstrates how Smith used these documents to “brainstorm” a new theological framework, allowing him to introduce doctrines like the priesthood ban and the plurality of gods under the guise of an ancient text. Joseph Smith purchased the collection for $2,400 and quickly identified the records as the writings of the biblical patriarchs Abraham and Joseph. Vogel notes that while Smith identified these as ancient records, they were actually Egyptian funerary texts, specifically the “Book of Breathings” (belonging to a priest named Horus) and the “Book of the Dead” (belonging to Ta-Sherit-Min). “Brainstorming” Book of Abraham Translation A central part of the discussion involves the Kirtland Egyptian Papers, which include “Alphabet” and a bound “Grammar” volume. Vogel disputes the apologetic theory that these documents were a failed attempt by scribes to reverse-engineer Smith’s translation. Instead, he argues they were Smith's own working papers used to “brainstorm” theological concepts. According to Vogel, Smith used these documents to develop complex ideas—such as a priesthood lineage and an Egyptian-themed cosmology—before dictating the final text. Evidence of Oral Dictation Vogel presents compelling evidence that the Book of Abraham was orally dictated. He points to manuscripts where scribes Frederick G. Williams and Warren Parrish wrote simultaneously, making the same in-line corrections as Smith changed his mind about specific wording. Furthermore, the scribes used phonetic spellings for names like “Alcanor” or “Elkenah,” which reflected Joseph Smith's distinct New England non-rhotic accent (e.g., dropping/adding the “r” sound). Filling the Gaps: Invented Characters One of the most significant findings involves the lacunae, or missing portions of the papyrus. Vogel asserts that where the scroll was damaged, Smith invented characters to fill the gaps. These invented characters were then transcribed into the translation manuscripts and given lengthy English definitions that ended up in the Book of Abraham. This suggests that the surviving fragments—which match these characters—were indeed the source material Smith was using. Theological Projection The Book of Abraham served as a tool to introduce new doctrines that Smith was building into the Church's structure. Vogel explains how the cosmology of the stars (like Kolob) mirrored the ecclesiastical structure of the Kirtland Temple. The three ruling planets and twelve others corresponded to the three presidencies and the twelve members of the High Council. In this way, Smith projected his 19th-century priesthood concerns back onto an ancient patriarchal narrative0. Critique of the “Long Scroll Theory” Finally, Vogel addresses the modern apologetic “Long Scroll Theory,” which posits that the Book of Abraham was on a portion of the papyrus that was destroyed in the 1871 Chicago Fire. Vogel argues this is a “fallacy of possible proof”. He maintains that the documentary evidence—specifically the way the characters in the margins of the translation manuscripts match the surviving fragments—proves that Smith was translating from the documents we still possess today. For the Glory KC is back with the 156th episode of the show!The headline for Kansas City soccer this week is the World Cup! The FIFA World Cup draw went down last Friday with games announced on Saturday. Kansas City get six games in the 2026 World Cup, and the first four matchups are now known:1st: Argentina vs. Algeria on June 16th at 8PM 2nd: Ecuador vs Curacao, June 20th at 7PM3rd: Tunisia vs. Netherlands, June 25th at 6PM4th: Algeria vs. Austria, June 27th at 9PMKC also host a July 3rd round of 32 game and a July 11th quarterfinal, that could feature Messi vs. Ronaldo. If Argentina and Portugal win their groups and their first two knockout games then the biggest game in the world (before the final) will be in Kansas City. That's all assuming Messi even plays. And that they are both healthy. It's a long-shot, but it could happen!The United States Men's National team also found out their group, and it's quite winnable. They start off against Paraguay and also play Australia and the winner of the UEFA playoff between Turkiye, Slovakia, Romania and Kosovo. The USMNT could even play in Kansas City if everything falls the right way, but part of that is them ending up third in their group, which would be a disappointment. Sporting Kansas City are still top of mind with a few big moments this week. First, Kerry Zavagnin officially parted ways with the club after 26 years. Sheena and I give our thoughts and then we share the rumor of two potential replacement coaching candidates. Raphael Wicky, who is a rumored finalist, is who we know the most about after this time with the Chicago Fire.In other Sporting KC news, they have a rumored goalkeeper trade. It'll be the team's fourth keeper if Stefan Cleveland officially arrives from Austin FC. Hey, soccer fans! Major League Soccer and the Chicago Fire have released their 2026 season schedule. Chris Armas is a 2025 inductee into the US Soccer Hall of Fame. During his playing career, he played 12 seasons in Major League Soccer for the LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire, and was a 5x MLS Best XI selection, an MLS and US Open Cup Champion, and played 66 games for the US National Team. The 2000 US Soccer Player of the Year and 2005 MLS Comeback Player of the Year, untimely injuries derailed his inclusion in the 2002 and 2006 US World Cup teams. After retireing from playing, Chris began a coaching career that has taken him to assistant coach roles at Manchester United and Leeds United, as well as MLS Head Coaching stops with the NY Red Bulls (2018 Supporters Shield winners), Toronto FC, and in 2024-2025 the Colorado Rapids. In 2024, he led the Rapids to a remarkable improvement of 23 points, finishing 7th after finishing dead last in 2023. For this he was named an MLSCoach of the Year finalist. In 2025, the Rapids missed out on the playoffs on the final day, and Armas and the Rapids agreed to part ways. In our conversation today, Chris and John discuss the importance of building strong relationships with athletes, establishing trust, and helping each player get better. We discuss his time in England, meeting Sir Alex Ferguson, the British press, and his time in Colorado including the the joys of 2024 and the heartbreak of missing out on the 2025 players due to a stoppage time goal.
