In this episode, we chat with a true cinematic legend: the one and only Sean Astin. You know him as the beloved hobbit, a treasure-seeking Goonie, and a football underdog, but today we're exploring the heart behind the roles. Sean Astin isn't just a versatile actor; he's a passionate advocate for causes close to his heart. Following in his mother's footsteps (the one and only Patty Duke), he's been a driving force behind so many charitable causes including Women Helping Women Fund in Spokane, continuing her legacy of empowerment and support. His commitment to mental health awareness is deeply inspiring, as he openly shares his own experiences to break the stigma and encourage others to seek help. Join us as we explore the multifaceted world of Sean Astin – the hobbit with a heart of gold, a champion for women, and a courageous voice in the conversation about expanding mental health access.

“The origin story feels pretty far away from where I am now,” says screenwriter Kelly Younger. “I started out in archeology. Truth be told, I wanted to be a Goonie,” he jokes. “I'm from a working class Irish family. My family went through a hard financial time. We actually lost our house when I was a kid.” “In The Goonies, the kids are about to lose their homes, but then they find this treasure map, fight criminals, there's pirate ships, but ultimately they find the treasure that is going to save the family home. That movie really hit me at a pretty important moment.” “Then, when Indiana Jones came out, I wanted to be an archeologist. That was always my interest and facisnation. Lost civilizations and treasures. The kind of magic surrounding those kinds of stories. I was also a bit of a theater kid in middle school and high school. When it came time for school, I studied English Literature and the Classics.” Eventually, it became obvious that Younger was making career choices based on movies. “Ultimately, I moved to Ireland and studied literature, drama, folk tales, mythology, and fairy tales. I started out as a student of storytelling, but then my theater background kicked in and I started writing plays—mostly because I was broke. I wrote a play and won 1,000 pounds and got involved in the Dublin Theater Festival.” Eventually, this lead the screenwriter to Disney Animation where he worked as part of the “Story Trust,” providing feedback and advice for Moana, Cars 3, Coco, Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Toy Story 4, Frozen II, Onward, Aladdin, and Raya and the Last Dragon. As a screenwriter, Younger has credits on Muppets Now, Muppets Haunted Mansion, and the new Eddie Murphy comedy Candy Cane Lane. The story follows a man who is determined to win the neighborhood's annual Christmas decorating contest until he makes a pact with an Elf who cast a spell on him which brings the 12 days of Christmas to life, and wrecks havoc on the town. Playwright and parodist, Dean O'Carroll, sat in the Playwright's Spotlight this week. We discuss his origins as a playwright and the knowledge gained from a Bachelor's Degree in theatre to an MFA in playwriting and the differences from learning from lecture opposed to the practicalities of writing and the challenges he overcame including pushing through doubt. We touch on the process of writing farce and parody and the benefits of drawing from popular works, the risks of publishing before production, and whether or not it's possible to write a fool (actor) proof play. We also discuss publishers requesting changes, especially without permission, juggling and compartmentalizing multiple works, writing and collaborating for and with younger playwrights and opening doors, and how writing in other mediums benefits playwriting. Another wonderful and insightful learning experience. I hope you take something away from this episode.Dean O'Carroll is a playwright and parodist originally from Amherst, Massachusetts. His parody plays Back to the 80s: A Risky, Goonie, Breakfasty Tale of Totally Tubular Time Travel; Star Stars: The Franchise Awakens; Marvelous Squad: A Super-Heroic Tale with Avengeance; The Humor Games, and the Sally Cotter trilogy are published by Playscripts and have been staged by schools and theatres around the world. His online play Greek Gods Under Quarantine is published by YouthPLAYS. He has also written material for “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live and several children's books about DC Comics superheroes. He holds a BA in Drama from Vassar College and an MFA in Playwriting from Brandeis University. As we cross the halfway point in our ten-part exploration of the 1980s, we're randomly recasting the movies of 1985, and hopefully making them weirder. We might extract Chevy Chase from Fletch, for example, and drop him into the Kelly LeBrock role in Weird Science. That would free up Kelly to star in Rambo: First Blood Part II, Stallone can replace Cher as the mom in Mask, and so on. Chances of this being a huge disaster: excellent. If you've ever wondered why we don't run Hollywood, this episode may provide some answers. Also: We're watching unsettling 1985 Pizza Hut commercials, and Kornflake is a secret Rush fan. What do you get when you mix Puritan values, Goonie level booby traps, and Bob Villa Carpentry skillz, that's right you get the bungalow on the bough, the lifted loft, Adventureland's own deciduous dwelling. An experience proving that; you can take the château out of Switzerland, but you cant take the family out of this flophouse. You guessed it, were hugging bark at Swiss Family Treehouse. The attraction based on a movie that came out when you weren't yet a twinkle in your granny's eye, and speaking of old folks homes; Today were climbing steps and singing "Oh Christmas Tree" like our grand pappy did; while hiding from tigers, pirates, and their annoyingly precocious son Francis up in a big softwood sapling. HEY YOU GUYS! This week, we eat a Chunk and Sloth size meal of Domino's pizza, Baby Ruth bars, potato chips, rocky road ice cream, whipped cream, and Pepsi before we talk about The Goonies. This film is filled with the boundless energy of kids on an epic quest to find rich stuff. We all agree that it's fun but may have too many dick jokes… or, maybe not enough! It gave us the irreplaceable talent behind Thanos, Samwise, Waymond Wang, and a good-looking lawyer. Proof that anyone can be a Goonie.
We do not spend enough time looking at what is coming up. We talk about news here and there, but an actual deep dive into upcoming genre films rarely comes up. This week, we do just that. We discuss the movies we are looking forward to, werewolves, and what it takes to scream like a Goonie. The first movie we discuss is a classic of the genre. Dario Argento's Suspira is one of the most important movies in horror. It affects on genre cinema are clear. How often have you hear that something looks like Suspiria? What is rarely talked about is how if affected the entire medium.Of course, we had to talk about its kickass soundtrack and look. But we also discuss the financial themes, how it is like Mean Girls, and how you should whisper its name. Everyone has heard of Suspira, but few have sat and talked about it like we do.Satanic Hispanics is an anthology that made its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest. Made by five Latino filmmakers, the movie mixes horror, comedy, and the occult. It is a nice change of pace from an anthology we recently covered and is a template for how to make these kinds of movies the correct way.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Waddup Everybody…Welcome to Through My Eyes with 1 Eyed Willie, this is The WORLDs iLLEST Podcast. First let me give a shout-out to The Goon Squad and if your are a new here…you are now a Goonie so hop on the ship and tap in.This is Season 3 Episode 4: Something. Out. Of. Nothing. (S.O.O.N.) Feat. Albert Craig. Now most of us know him as Young Sweet one half of the hottest duo to come out of KY Cam Dollaz and Young Sweet, a member of his crew Goodfellas and artists from the Bread Boy Ent. Empire. On this episode Albert and I chop it up about a lot of different things but first he wanted to let me and everyone else know that he was motivated and inspired to get back to recording and releasing music due to drawing inspiration from seeing Jon Woo working with Marzz at the H.E.R. concert. We then take it back to the beginning of time and talk about his memories of growing up in New Orleans, where he got the name Young Sweet, the Ward he's from and the Cash Money and No Limit Records inspiration on hip-hop/rap culture.Albert then details moving to Kentucky where he and I would meet and his mother told me he was an inspiring rapper. At that time Albert would go by Young Sweet and was apart of Goodfellas and group that consisted of 4-5 friends from school. Each member would drop projects, burn them on CD and push them out in school and in the streets. A few years later they would form the duo Cam Dollaz & Young Sweet, they met Producer Damian “Texx” of “Bread Boy Beats” where they got a beat and made the hit track “Gotta Get It”.We zero in on the Mia Ann and Rhythm Liquor deal, his highly anticipated tape “This Is Me”, how he linked with DJ Slikk, the album release party and what happened afterwards. From there Albert Craig and I close out by talking about what he is currently working on, if he is really getting back to recording/releasing music, what the family is up to, his kids love for music and much more. Tap in now and get a Clearer Vision Through Conversation. Support the show

Blood makes you related but loyalty makes you family. In this peaceful moment, my good homie Kevin Goonie and I caught up after a few years of being apart. Only caveat we were really really high.
