Ever wondered why we lash out, shut down, or spiral emotionally, even when we don't want to? On this episode of Getting Better, JVN teams up with psychologist and author Dr. Nicole LePera (The Holistic Psychologist) to dive deep into inner child healing, parts work, and the shocking truth behind our nervous system's reactions. Dr. LePera reveals how our past molds our emotions, why connection is our biological imperative, and how to become your own adult parent. JVN opens up about their own "parts," and together they dissect black-and-white thinking, fear, and emotional overwhelm, uncovering real-world strategies to break free! If healing has ever felt messy, scary, or downright nonlinear, this conversation may help you truly "getting better." Dr. Nicole LePera's new book Reparenting the Inner Child: The New Science of Our Oldest Wounds and How to Heal Them is out March 24th. Full Getting Better Video Episodes now available on YouTube. Market returns have historically been positive a year after many military conflicts. But there have been a few exceptions. What did those events have in common, and what might that indicate about the market's reaction to the conflict in Iran? Plus, we talk to Global Head of Alternatives David Hemming about what he's watching in commodity markets today. (Invesco Distributors, Inc.)
Aaron Gwyn is the author of four novels: The World Beneath, Wynn's War, and, most recently, two wonderfully linked historical novels, All God's Children, which won the Oklahoma Book award, and The Cannibal Owl. In his conversation with Sean McCann of Wesleyan (A Pinnacle of Feeling: American Literature and Presidential Government and Gumshoe America: Hard-Boiled Crime Fiction and the Rise and Fall of New Deal Liberalism) and Novel Dialogue's own John Plotz, we learn that Robert Lemmons is a real historical figure and so is Levi English. One way to grasp Gwyn's achievement is to consider the contrast between his durably realist work and Cormac McCarthy's 1985 Blood Meridian. Much as Aaron and Sean admire that novel, McCarthy's characters strike them as monstrous and incredible. How about Charles Portis's True Grit, asks John? Aaron loves it for its ventriloquizing power, and its truth-loving willingness to weave in unsettling back stories like Rooster Cogburn's ties to Quantrill's Rangers, an eerily modern pro-Confederate terrorist paramilitary. In our signature question, we learn why Aaron's favorite teacher was Robert Hill, Pink-Floyd-loving drummer and perennial inspiration (audio here). Mentioned in the episode: Richard Slotkin's notion of “the man who knows Indians” comes from Gunfighter Nation Mark Twain, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1889) Herman Melville, Moby Dick William Faulkner Absalom Absalom Toni Morrison, Beloved Thomas Pynchon, Gravity's Rainbow. John Williams, Stoner (but also Butcher's Crossing –-which John loves— and Augustus, which did indeed split the National Book Award (not the Pulitzer) in 1973 with John Barth's Chimera. Daily life is full of irritations: moments of inconvenience, situations where we don't get what we were hoping for, delays, disappointments, prickly interactions that can leave us confused and exasperated. If we're honest, we can probably admit that sometimes our reactions in those moments tend to be reflexive rather than intentional. We feel our anger or annoyance rise, and we react almost as though we're reading a script. Can we explore these habitual reactions in a way that gives us enough space to respond differently? In today's practice, teacher Patricia Rockman guides us through a meditation to help us meet whatever is arising, so that we have more agency when the next moment arises. Patricia Rockman, MD, CCFP, FCFP is a family physician with a focused practice in mental health. She is the senior director of Education and Clinical Services at the Centre for Mindfulness Studies, Toronto. Rockman is also an associate professor at the University of Toronto, Department of Family Medicine, cross appointed to Psychiatry. She has extensive experience practicing individual psychotherapy, leading therapy groups, and training healthcare providers in mindfulness-based interventions, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and change management for stress reduction. She is a freelance writer, yoga teacher, and meditation practitioner. The transcription of this guided meditation will be online and in our app at Mindful.org next week. Stay curious, stay inspired. NFL Free Agency has been absolute chaos, and we're breaking down everything you need to know for fantasy football!
Arsenal leave Germany with a draw, but the performance in Leverkusen sparks plenty of debate. In this episode of The Non-Negotiables Podcast, the team breaks down the 1–1 draw away to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League Round of 16. From the starting XI decisions and early refereeing controversies to Martinelli rattling the crossbar and a frustrating attacking display, the discussion explores where the performance fell short and why Arsenal struggled to impose themselves on the game. The panel looks closely at the tactical setup, including the continued use of the double pivot and Jurriën Timber's advanced role, while analysing difficult nights for several key players. Bukayo Saka's performance, Martinelli's finishing, and the absence of Martin Ødegaard all feature in a wider conversation about how Arsenal are currently building attacks — and why the team is finding it harder to break down organised opponents.Attention then turns to the decisive moment late in the match as Noni Madueke wins a controversial penalty. Was there enough contact? Would it have been overturned in the Premier League? Kai Havertz steps up to convert and rescue the draw, but the debate continues over whether Arsenal escaped Leverkusen with a fortunate result or earned it through persistence.Beyond the match itself, the hosts discuss the wider context of Arsenal's season — the fine margins, the physical demands of the schedule, and the mentality that has kept the team difficult to beat across competitions.Part two shifts to the regular features, including the Who Am I? game and the weekend prediction segment, with Liverpool vs Tottenham and Chelsea vs Newcastle under the spotlight. Finally, the conversation turns back to Arsenal with a preview of the upcoming Premier League clash against Everton. With the title race tightening and a demanding run of fixtures ahead — including the second leg against Leverkusen and the Carabao Cup final — the team assesses squad rotation, injury concerns, and the importance of maintaining control in the margins that define championship seasons.Chapters:(00:00) - Arteta's Non-Negotiables & Intro(00:51) - Starting XI Reaction: Havertz on the Bench & Tactical Setup(02:34) - Early Refereeing Controversy & Champions League Standards Debate(07:15) - Martinelli Hits the Bar: Arsenal's Best First-Half Chance(08:04) - Saliba & Gabriel Struggles Playing Out From the Back(09:08) - Half-Time Verdict: Good Arsenal or Bad Arsenal?(09:29) - “Atrocious Arsenal” Second-Half Start & Leverkusen Goal(11:14) - Arsenal Response Debate & Control vs Reality(13:21) - Timber's Advanced Role & Lack of Attacking Penetration(15:03) - Saka Subbed Off & Madueke Impact Discussion(17:09) - Arsenal Chase the Game & Havertz Introduction(18:54) - Late Penalty Controversy: Was It Soft?(24:32) - Arteta vs Player Responsibility Debate(26:34) - Stats & Tactical Discussion: Double Pivot vs Single Pivot(31:47) - Martinelli Debate & Left-Wing Concerns(33:08) - Havertz Equaliser & Arsenal Escape with 1–1 Draw(33:33) - Champions League Round-of-16 Reactions & English Teams Struggle(37:01) - Winter Break Debate & European Scheduling Impact(39:58) - Part 2 Intro & “Who Am I?” Game(41:20) - Prediction Game: Liverpool vs Tottenham(48:51) - Chelsea vs Newcastle Preview(51:26) - Six Pack: Everton vs Arsenal Six “Business End” Talking Points(54:09) - Arsenal vs Everton Match Preview(56:35) - Squad Rotation Discussion: Havertz, Saka, Madueke & White(59:17) - Left Wing Debate: Martinelli vs Alternatives(01:05:53) - Final Everton Match Thoughts(01:07:39) - “Who Am I?” Answer Revealed

Rich weighs in on the Baltimore Ravens backing out of their Maxx Crosby trade with the Las Vegas Raiders in THE wildest free agency outcome he's seen in two decades of covering the NFL. The Athletic's NFL Insider Dianna Russini tells Rich why the Ravens pulled the plug on the Maxx Crosby trade and reveals Baltimore's front office actually spoke to Trey Hendrickson while Crosby was in the building yesterday, if the Raiders can still get two first-round picks for the All-Pro DE, and if Kyler Murray will be suiting up for the Minnesota Vikings next season. In the wake of the Raiders statement about the Ravens backing out of the Maxx Crosby trade, Rich offers up some tongue-in-cheek take back statements we'd like to see from sports history/infamy. On this episode of Bussin’ With The Boys, Will Compton and Taylor Lewan sit down with country superstar Luke Combs for a wide-ranging conversation that starts in the football locker room and ends on the main stage. The boys kick things off debating whether concussions exist before getting into Luke’s high school football days, including being teammates with Caleb Pressley and watching Brandon Spikes be an absolute man amongst boys. From there, Luke walks through when he first got into singing and what it was like booking that very first show. Luke opens up about moving to Nashville, learning the music business the hard way, and the relationships that helped him find his lane. He talks about breaking the mold in country music, whether he ever got jaded after blowing up, and who he wanted to meet when he first arrived in town. The conversation rolls through his favorite album he’s written, becoming a parent, whether he’s actually a fan of snow, and his diehard App State football fandom—including his thoughts on the current state of college football. The episode opens with NFL free agency news, Maxx Crosby’s new deal, Ravens and Raiders outlook, an Andrew Luck vs. Joe Burrow debate, Justin Jefferson unfollowing J.J. McCarthy, Logan Paul possibly fighting NFL players, Will’s 40 time, BWTB stadium rankings, the White House UFC card, T-shirt contest winners, and Taylor’s Vegas trip. It wraps with talk about Luke’s new album, who he’s really a fan of, and a classic Bud Light question—plus country music, App State football, and balancing fame with family.
