Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. This week’s news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com “PRIZED” LONDON STATION CONTRACTS LET Building.co.uk recently reported that what it calls "the prized deals" for London’s new HS2 Ltd. rail stations at Euston and Old Oak Common have been let to international consultancy/construction company Mace Group and international infrastructure group Balfour Beatty. Their combined value is approximately GBP3 billion (US$3.88 billion), with half of that being the work at Euston. Designed by Grimshaw Architects, this station will have 11 platforms, with other work including expanding the existing underground station and linking the complex to the nearby Euston Square tube station. HS2’s plans for Old Oak Common are "to set standards for design with big, light, open spaces, excellent wayfinding and prominent lifts and escalators, [and] making it easier for passengers with luggage to move around," New Civil Engineer previously reported. Its designs were drawn up by a team led by WSP and architect WilkinsonEyre. The stations will be built under construction management contracts. The Mace team includes Spanish firm Dragados, and Balfour Beatty has teamed with Vinci and transportation-planning consultancy Systra. Demolition work has been ongoing since last fall, and phased openings are planned to begin in 2026. The Lodging houses of Victorian London held no shortage of scandal and intrigue for the more imaginative Londoners in the 19th Century. The Maids and their masters, the comings and goings of a transient household and the very concept of strangers living together under one roof in an age when such situations were not seen as natural. Still, even the most imaginative of passers by could not have expected the stories that would soon come flooding out from one particular household, when in 1879, the body of an elderly woman showed up in the coal cellar of 4 Euston Square, a previously well-to-do neighbourhood in Bloomsbury, London. Not merely unidentified, it was entirely unknown how on earth it had got there in the first place. This is Chris writing a description of the episode and this description will not be rewritten or edited. Illusions are shattered this time - this episode is entirely unedited. In our Euston Square studios, we are joined by poor old put-upomn Producer Paul (who is an awful mood). Chrsi does some dispatches about TIME, talking to some musicians about time and trying to impose some kind of theme about time onto the episode(Unsuccessfull). Sam bring s a new jungle and a couple of songs, one about skateboarding and one about (DFTCB running joke) naming obscure areas of Sheffield. Other things happen too I think. Producer Paul's mood improves at some point. It was all a blur for me to be honest, but is was a lott of fun.

Joining Sam and Chris in the bathroom this time is their good friend Producer Paul, who sees to all their engineering needs and also wades in on such serious subjects as 'That Glass Of Water That You Have Immediately After Having Brushed Your Teeth'. Producer Paul joins a growing fold which includes of course their swimming sidekick Jon The Duck, as well as the masterfully mirthful Mario D'Agostino who contributes a song about hospital administration. The guys introduce you to the game of 'Lazy TV Executives' , discuss the relative merits of Euston Square, intentionally offend over half the world's population and take their chances on a lucky dip.
