In this episode, I talk to the wonderful character comedian, BENJAMIN BANKO BELLO AKA PRESIDENT OBONJO about his comedy career. Comedian Bello created President Obonjo, an inflated self-centred dictator pf the Lafta Republic, feigning to find easy solutions delivered on stage with mocking accuracy, amusement, and susceptibility. Obonjo has been a very successful standing-up comedian winning Luton Comedian of the Year, Runner-Up at Great Yorkshire Fringe and was a finalist in the Naty New Act of the year in 2016. I have seen President Obonjo live on stage for Old Comedian of The Year in London in 2015, his solo show President Obonjo Stole My Identity at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015, online for Beefy's Comedy Club in 2020 and then live again at The Hastings Comedy Fringe in 2021. Thank you so much for listening to my podcast, if you like what you hear, please subscribe and I hope you enjoy the interview. RHLSTP comes to the Great Yorkshire Fringe and York City fan Richard couldn’t be happier about his team’s amazing season or the fact that the hot weather has given him the perfect new emergency question. His guest is the tiniest person anyone has ever seen, it’s Rebecca Callard. They chat about what Ian Gregg really puts in the vegan sausage rolls, playing a drug dealer on Coronation Street, the scarecrowyness of Mackenzie Crook, the largely forgotten sitcom Bonjour La Classe and how Rebecca managed to miss out on most of Children’s Ward. The York audience have fun trying to name different kinds of cupboard and being insulted. Plus insider knowledge on the Borrowers emergency question and leaving Twitter and why it’s a good idea/impossible.See RHLSTP live at the Edinburgh Fringe and then on tour round the UK. RHLSTPEATGYF #2: Sean Bean's Pound Shop Subterfuge - Mark Addy. Richard proves he is down with the cool kids by chatting to his teenage fans about skateboards and exams before introducing a man who is at home driving a Bronto-crane as he is befriending a talking snowman as he is having a friend who travels through time and gets off with Samantha Mumba whilst he waits around in Victorian London twiddling his thumbs, it's bona fide Hollywood superstar Mark Addy. Will he live up to Richard's hopes and be as nice and down-to-earth as he appears to be on screen or will it all go a bit Game of Thrones? There are some great insights into how he was persuaded to do some of his films, what happens when you go to a pub with your name, what it must be like to be in Chris Rock's posse, and how Sean Bean gets cheap shampoo. Tales of a good York boy in Hollywood and the craziness of LA and the dangers of auto-fellatio and how he ended up playing Hercules. RHLSTP #116: Paedophile Postman - Elis James. It's the end of the series (but there will be bonus audio podcasts from the Great Yorkshire Fringe next week) and Richard is frankly astonished by the popularity of his final guest, given he has to literally check his name on a pad before introducing him, it's Elis James. Rich makes the Welshman feel at home by talking to him in his own language before discussing the famous people who've come from Carmarthen and the impact of the bridge over Blue Street. They compete to discover the worst hotel in Swansea and Elis wins by a toothbrush. Also find out how James' act has been ruined by Welsh football success, what we thought of the Ghostbusters controversy (I know that was a long time ago now) and who will have the funniest comedy hybrid child. And who is more oppressed, the Welsh or women? Or Welsh women? Plus Richard's attempt to get involved with Elis' next sitcom backfires spectacularly, but at least he has his awards speech all ready now.SUPPORT THE SHOW!Check out our website and become a badger and see extra content http://rhlstp.co.ukSee details of the RHLSTP tour dates http://richardherring.com/gigsBuy DVDs and Books at http://gofasterstripe.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
After terrifying ourselves to death last week, this week we try and keep it light and frothy on Which is the Best? podcast (A podcast where Lee Kyle and Sammy Dobson decide which is the best between things of the same or similar names. There's only one bit where Sammy reveals that she once accidentally disrespected a memorial service, so that's pretty good going I reckon. This weeks decisions are between: Wondering or wandering. Is having a good ponder (about where your life is going...) better than wandering (Getting lost). Feels like it could get deep this onedoesn't it? It doesn't. and Bananarama (Surly 80s hit machine) and Banana Armour(That container you sometimes see that you can keep bananas in) Yeah, it's not our best pun is it? Oh, by the way, we are doing live versions of this at the Great Yorkshire Fringe on 25th July in York (16.30 at the Tea Pot), and at the Edinburgh Fringe on 10th August (20.40 at Woodland Creatures). It's nice that we are performing at the Tea Pot and then at Woodland Creatures isn't it? Makes us seem like we are in a Beatrix Potter story....
