This episode is big change of pace.I talked to Scott Hardiman who is a Life and Confidence Coach. Now, I know we've all had times as comedians where we could use some more confidence and lack of confidence might be holding us back. Scott and I talked about gaining the confidence you need to take your career to the next level. I also asked him a lot of hypothetical questions specific to comedy to try to stump him. Take a listen to see if I did! Here's Scott's story:A lot of my teenage and adult life I suffered with low confidence and low self-esteem. It was a feeling I just accepted, and thought this was the way I was and always would be.Naturally, when you never see yourself in a positive light, you doubt the decisions you make and constantly seek approval it is bound to come to a head. For me that was in the form of anxiety, which if you’ve never experienced, can be extremely debilitating. It was at my lowest that I had a realisation I HAD to change and find ways to combat my anxiety and the way I was feeling. I became fascinated with how I could take myself out of the hole I was in. I put all my energy into it and worked hard on myself everyday. I found the answers and succeeded in overcoming the biggest battle of my life. In the job I was in I worked my way up to general manager and trained as a personal trainer in my spare time.I then decided to take the plunge into self-employed life as a personal trainer and that is when I found that I was helping my clients, not just with their body goals, but in developing an empowering mindset, full of belief and confidence and ways to deal with life and the challenges it brings.I felt so passionate about it and fell in love with what I was doing. This passion led me to dive even DEEPER into the way our minds work. I read tons of books, attended life changing courses and completed certifications to enable me to use what I know to help others. This realisation was the most empowering feeling and I naturally transitioned from personal training into life and confidence coaching.Check out Scott's website here:Scott HardimanIf you'd like to support the show and get some cool perks, check out our Patreon page:BTB PatreonA big thank you to my new Patreon Patrons!Steve FreetoMeike RmLook for new stuff for Patrons soon!If you like the show, you can follow us on social media! His strangely endearing personality and ability to riff, rant and improvise sets him apart and makes every show unique. With an unapologetic, outspoken, unfiltered, and often unscripted act it’s difficult to tell when he’s telling a well written joke or just getting something off his chest. Episode 31: Joanne Filan

Growing up in New Jersey (but refusing to die there), Joanne Filan has made her way around the comedy club scene and around the comedy country. Performing at well-known places such as The Friars Club, Broadway Comedy Club, Caroline's, Greenwich Village Comedy Club and more, not to mention a fixture in the traveling show, “The Broads of Broadway”, she is well known in the comedy world. She even reaches the masses through her TV and media appearances, including Fox, Amazon, Here TV, Comedy Time TV, and in "Comics Favorite Jokes" in the NY Post. She can also be seen in a new documentary entitled “Words: An Exploration of Identity”. Joanne has taken part in festivals and competitions as well, from The New York Underground Comedy Festival to the Women in Comedy Festival in Boston, to the recent Ladies of Laughter Competition. She has ventured into the college circuit- hosting, featuring, and headlining in events at Bryn Mawr College, Monmouth and Lehigh Universities, and many more. She also proudly performs for the US Troops overseas. Her writing side has also come into play as she has just finished co-writing a TV pilot and is also a regular guest lecturer for creative writing classes at St. John's University- ensuring her creativity will go on, despite any side effects.Well over a decade into the business and Joanne has never been more on top of her game. She consistently delivers a unique “stream of consciousness” style of humor full of random thoughts and quirky observations that keep audiences either rolling in the aisles or on the edges of their seats, anxious to hear what she has to say next. With an amazing gift for improv, razor-sharp wit, and a subtle delivery, Joanne is an unexpected gem- a comedian so able to tap into the moment that no two shows are ever alike. Joanne & I talked about taking comedy classes, Midwest audiences, working clean, & working with people you respect. From Reena's Bio:Reena Calm is an East Coast Jew turned Chicago favorite, and one of the most respected and requested comedians in the Midwest. Pulling from a lifetime of questionable choices, Reena’s material is autobiographical, silly, and charmingly inappropriate. Reena is a featured regular at the Laugh Factory and performs all over the country on her signature #CalmedyTours. She loves a good fest! Some of the best were Accidental Comedy Festival, Birmingham Comedy Festival, Milwaukee Comedy Festival, Let’s Fest, Burning Bridges Festival, Turnbuckle Fest, The Comedy Exposition, Flyover Comedy Invasion, Limestone Comedy Festival, RiOT LA, Gilda’s LaughFest - Best of the Midwest, and Just For Laughs Chicago. She has opened for Arsenio Hall, Laurie Kilmartin, and Eddie Pepitone to name a few. Reena has been a frequent guest on WGN Radio, the Doug Loves Movies podcast, and she was named Comic of The Week on The Jackie & Laurie Show. Check out her first book “Once A Pun A Time…” here: Once A Pun A Time She’s been called “also terrific” by the Chicago Tribune, and “not a disappointment” by her mother.Reena is not a dissapointment to her mother and not as a guest on the podcast. We talked about her start in improv and how that helped her with her standup. We also touched on life on the road and working with comics you don't like.
