The Podfather (The Guardian), reluctant 'King of Edinburgh' and two time and only Chortle Internet Award winner, brings his Edinburgh Fringe Podcast south for a more leisurely weekly show in which he chats with some of the biggest names in comedy, with guest spots from some of the hot new comics you…
Listeners of RHLSTP with Richard Herring that love the show mention: interview, hilarious, funny, great, love, become a monthly badger, richard herring.
The RHLSTP with Richard Herring podcast is not only a classic, but also the original and best when it comes to comedian-hosted interview shows. Richard Herring has been hosting this podcast for over a decade and has set the bar high for his guests and the hilarious Emergency Questions he asks them. The lineup of guests is truly impressive, ranging from national treasures like Bob Mortimer and Sir Michael Palin to comedy royalty like James Acaster and Katherine Ryan. Even showbiz A-listers like Harry Shearer and Brett Goldstein have graced the guest's chair on RHLSTP. It's hard to ask for more when it comes to the quality of guests on this podcast.
In terms of standout episodes, some of the best have been with people I've never even heard of before. This goes to show that it's worth giving every episode a listen, even if you're unfamiliar with the guest's name. You might just find some absolute gems that you would have otherwise missed out on.
However, there are a few aspects of this podcast that could be improved upon. Sometimes, due to the sheer volume of content Richard Herring provides, there can be varying quality from episode to episode. However, if you stick with it, you'll be rewarded with hilarious moments, general silliness, occasional genius, and enlightening revelations. Additionally, while Richard consistently gets great guests who are always great value, there may be an underlying tone of sorrow in his fake enthusiasm during adverts. It sometimes feels as though he doesn't really want to do them but has resigned himself to the fact that he needs to.
In conclusion, The RHLSTP with Richard Herring podcast is a superb show filled with great guests and comedic brilliance from one of the hardest working comics out there. While there may be some minor flaws here and there, overall it delivers consistent excellence and is definitely worth a listen for any comedy fan. Here's to many more healthy seasons of this hilarious and entertaining podcast.

RHLSTP #611 - Smell The Magic - Richard is podcasting in the middle of his run of 8 performances of a play. His guest must be in awe, it's one of the brains behind and up front in Operation Mincemeat (which may have run almost as long) Natasha Hodgson. They talk about the work that she took on during lockdown, having to eat inky eggs in her first acting job, the phenomenal success of Mincemeat and the toll it took on her, Rich's experience of musical and musical grades (you are treated to several songs from him and not much from Natasha - sorry), how Mincemeat elevated the women involved in the original mission, what the musical awakened in Rich, the extraordinary audio experience that is The Sink, plus some revealing emergency questions and some very bad advice for writers. Plus the world's most controversial musical Dazzle and writing for puppets (I didn't know you could do that).SUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPEAudio mix by Ben Evans (NTO)Thanks to Chris Evans (NTO) and Ben WalkerRecorded at the Leicester Square Theatre Hosted on Acast. #430 The Imp from Impington - Rich has a problem with his daughter's favourite song, and shows that he is up to date with all the music playing at the discos nowadays. His guest is the irrepressible timkey, back for a third time in 18 months!. They talk about Tim's time as a white van man, a woman who survived eight days in a snow drift (for a bit), the places that Tim is and isn't going for his (basically sold out) tour https://www.plosive.co.uk/events/tim-key-mulberry-tour-2023, where he gets his crazy ideas, the incredible baguette deal in Pret, which comedian would make the best Prime Minister, being the answer to a question of University Challenge and what it's like to do a gig to a mainly Malaysian audience. There's a new and exciting instalment of the adventures of timkey the monkey and the pair compare cancers and then Rich asks the occasionally dynamite question, “What's it like being Tim Key?” Who can be sure. Tuesday 19th May 2026 - Scott Baio's Tapestry - Rich and Ally are back with news of a very important study on the Bayeaux Tapestry, but then have to stop as Rich has to go to a parent teacher thing at his kids' school. Never happened to John Craven. That's why it's under 5 minutes today though.Wednesday 20th May 2026 - Spygate - Rich is back in more cheerful mood and there's finally been a major development in his puppetry skills. Today the boys discuss football like a pair of right lads, plus how to be like Rich.Thursday 21st May 2026 - Foot in Mouth - Rich and Ally are back and looking at the STI figures in the EU and how best to sexily open a condom. Before falling out quite badly. Could this be the end of the partnership?Friday 22nd May 2026 - Unflammable - Rich and Ally are back, but there's some bad blood between them. Can't everyone just think of Rich's wider career? They are talking about the eternal flame, not of gonorrhoea this time, but in a Buddhist Temple in Japan and why it might be a bad idea to house that in a place made of wood. Hosted on Acast. RHLSTP Book Club #180 - How To Lay an Egg with a Horse Inside - Rich talks to the Banksy of poetry (though he's happy to be seen in the video, so that blows that), Brian Bilston (if that is his real name) about his career in poetry and his latest collection How To Lay an Egg With a Horse Inside. They chat about where this fantastic title came from and the probable obliviousness of its creator, how Twitter used to be a great place to post creative content and be inspired by others, how the book is a sarcastic but also inspirational look at the creation of poetry, whether AI will ever take the place of writers and most importantly where we get our crazy ideas from.Buy the book here - https://uk.bookshop.org/p/books/how-to-lay-an-egg-with-a-horse-inside-signed-edition-an-alternative-guide-to-writing-and-enjoying-poetry-brian-bilston/d20254e846a1c3e8SUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPEAudio mix by Ben Evans (NTO)Thanks to Chris Evans (NTO) Hosted on Acast. RHLSTP #610 - Cake in a Graveyard - Richard is excited about the breaking news (at time of recording). Broken years ago by this podcast and treats the audience to his poem about the disgraced Randrew Andrew. His guest is a woman with a life that feels like it has been moulded by Greek Gods fighting with a genie, the very open and frank and incredible Jameela Jamil. And she is not alone. She brings two further guests, one of whom has been vomiting blood. All in a day's normalcy for Jameela. They discuss he brilliant podcast Wrong Moves with Jameela Jamil, kicking a stunt man in the dick, running into a force field with a cake, the bee-based car accident that nearly killed her, but led to the best year of her life (she claims), the lies she's told to get jobs and the incredible and unbelievable truths that have accompanied her on her journey, how a school bully led to her becoming an actor (but long after they'd left school), her imminent 40th birthday, how our respective gigs for Elton John went, an incredible story about paying for someone's IVF that should completely be a sitcom and how Richard might just be a peripheral side character in the simulation that is Jameela's impossible life. This is up there with Brian Blessed, but I think this time, it's all true.Listen to Jameela's podcast Wrong Turns here (or wherever you get your podcasts) - https://open.spotify.com/show/48QtcFDDyQzKIc4B0fo4V7Listen to the full unredacted Sofie Hagen episode here (Randrew Andrew chat begins around 1:08:00) - https://open.spotify.com/episode/7rKIkLAmgEOtOrbpNJVZ6hCome and see RHLSTP live - http://richardherring.com/rhlstp. Today is a momentous meeting of Champions of Champions because his guest is Josh Widdicombe. RHLSTP #609 - Comedian Cancer Frankingstein - Rich hasn't got much to say at the start (hooray) and even then he is not as funny as a man in the audience. His guest is impressionist, comedian and podcaster Matt Forde. They talk about Rich's Mastermind failure (again?), working on Spitting Image and how weird it is that out of all the characters that show has done, it's the puppet of Paddington that has got them into the most trouble, working with the divine genius Alice Levine, interviewing the Prime Minister and other dodgy political figures, why there's a better option than going back in time to kill baby Hitler, plus a long chat about the negatives and surprising positives of having had spinal cancer, why it's helpful to talk about this and why cancer isn't as bad as the possibility of Nottingham Forest getting demoted. #427 Retribution - Richard is hoping to get a bridge named after him in Great Yarmouth and hopefully his fans will do better than they did in getting him nominated for a British Comedy Award. It's an incredible guest to start the new series, making his first appearance in almost 10 years, Stephen Merchant. Stephen has some questions for Richard about his first stint on the podcast and Richard doesn't really have any answers. But after a bit of squirming the pair get talking about meeting your heroes, your parents meeting your heroes, how an omelette was the clincher in getting Christopher Walken on to The Outlaws, the KLF style destruction of a Banksy, the Herring's Eye, the surprising news that drugs can be quite good fun, how Stephen made an impression at a Sarah Silverman party and his move into serious acting. Obviously there's a bit of Traitors chat as they discuss the decision to go in and whether it's helped with book sales, but mainly we're looking at the effect of taking an MA in creative writing and why it might help you write a best selling novel, Harriet's decision not to put out her second novel (or her earlier work that I would really like to see), the inspiration for Witch Trial, the real spooky stuff in Edinburgh that you can see in the National Museum, writing from the male perspective, the incredible ending of this book which we can't really discuss but that I doubt you'll guess, creating an atmosphere with two short early chapters and when in the process she wrote these and the possibility of a sequel. They chat about why Johnny Depp and John Malkovich touched Wendy's tummy together, writing a play about witch hunts both historic and modern day, the possible power of crystals and why it's OK for people to believe any rubbish they want (apart from flat earthers) and deciding to start doing stand up when your baby is 6 weeks old because it's possible to do anything once you've created an actual human.SUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. Monday 30th March 2026 - Male G-Spot and Demons. In what promises to be the last Newsround ever, Rich and Ally take a deep dive into genital licking and what combination of tongue and genital are acceptable to discuss with children, plus we look at JD Vance's claims that aliens are demons and why he knows for sure that the devil doesn't exist. Thanks for your support. Don't bother coming back tomorrow. We won't be here.Tuesday March 31st 2026 - Icarus - Rich and Ally are back temporarily as Rich waits for the call from the TV people. Today they look at the main celebrity news story, a not very famous man cutting himself with an apple peeler. Witness how the lame stream media makes more of this story, whilst only we tell you the truthThursday 2nd April 2026 - C**t up the *** - After an hilarious April Fool's joke Rich and Ally are back to discover if the moon landing was real and how astronauts get the trajectory to get out into space. With the first extra terrestrial report. But who will be the reporter today? Can you guess?Friday 3rd April 2026 - Randy - It's a party atmosphere as Easter approaches, but the team are all working, making sure the big stories and real music hall songs get to you before the lamestream media cab do anything about it. Today we look at Trump sacking his top officials and poignantly remember the death of our Christ and Messiah. Happy Easter to any Christians still here after this episode. Turn the other cheek. RHLSTP Book Club #175 - GoFasterStripe.com - A bit of a different Book Club as for the first time we're not talking to an author, but an independent publisher - Chris Evans (not that one). Hear the remarkable story of how his business empire began, his unusual business ethos, why he branched out into books, how Andrew Collins almost destroyed everything, why he wants to produce books that look good as well as read good, how he chooses what to publish and why doing something you love is (luckily) more important than making money. What a nice man he is. Should have been our easiest show to record, but had more technical screw ups than I can remember having in one of these. But our incompetence is our charmCheck out the amazing catalogue of downloads and books here http://gofasterstripe.comSupport the gofasterstripe.com club here - http://gofasterstripe.com/clubSUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. RHLSTP #605 - Baileys Solero - Rich is back at the Podcast Room for some intimate studio chats so no rubbish stand up, just an hour or more of CHAT with the lovely (in real life) and amusingly bitchy (on stage) Stephen Bailey. They talk about writing letters to channel heads asking to be on telly, becoming a stand up, even though you're not a fan of stand-up, the unexpected shy and academic childhood and how Stephen transformed into the confident broadcaster he is today, working on Corrie and the genius of Russell T Davis and Sally Lindsay, wearing a wedding dress on the Zoe Ball TV show, being friends with Tony Robinson and why it's weird not to have any friends from before you were on TV and the cock and Ferrero Rocher crossover between Stephen and Richard's acts.See Stephen at the Soho Theatre - https://sohotheatre.com/events/stephen-bailey-tart/SUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. #433 - Piggy in the Middle - Richard is at the Leicester Comedy Festival and has still not forgiven the city for the king theft or the cheese rivalry, but he gives out his phone number for anyone who wants to call him in 1973. His guest is making his fourth appearance on the podcast, though still not had a whiff of the Leicester Square Theatre, it's the multi award winning John Kearns. There's a Top Coppers update and some amazing new news of how he got the part, plus they discuss the changes wrought by Covid, creating new quiz formats, the magic of Taskmaster, an exciting new twist on emergency questions and wild speculation about the earnings of other comedians. Thanks to the Leicester Comedy Festival for having us.Come and see us live http://richardherring.com/rhlstpSUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. Monday 23rd March 2026 - Finger Hair - Rich and Ally are back to discuss Donald Trump RTing a SNLUK sketch and get an exclusive interview with the real PM to find out if SNLUK is as funny as it used to be.Tuesday 24th March 2026 - Deuteronomy 22:23-24 Rich and Ally are back in Da House and today they are reporting on the most controversial thing that has ever happened regarding the BBC show “The Repair Shop” in which they almost repaired an old joke book with some old jokes in it, that they didn't need to read out, but which still mustn't be on TV even in closed book form. Newsround is the most unsexist show on TV or the internet, as long as that is what people still are against, and so only we can report on this without prejudice. Take note Lamestream media and celestial bodies that are trying to blind and silence us.Thursday 26th March 2026 - Very Old Dog - Rich and Ally are back to tell you all the main news to ever come out of Cheddar in Somerset. So it's quite a short bulletin.Friday 27th March 2026- Roboteacher - Rich and Ally are back for the last newsround of the week and judging by this one it's probably good they're taking a bit of time to take stock and get their heads together and sort out Richard's health issues. Two news stories covered today which you won't see in the lame stream media - zip lining benefit cheats and Melania's army of info-robots. Watch Bake Off at 7.40pm on Channel 4 on Sunday just to see how good Rich can be on lame stream TV. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

RHLSTP #604 - Elephant Trunk - It's another studio RHLSTP with Richard's occasional collaborator Bilal Zafar. They talk about the amazing viral Instagram clip of one of their sketches, why Bilal wanted Ally Sloper to play his dad, whether we should be surprised by life, but not death, meeting Labour politicians on the tube, how can Bilal get on the telly, his return to Edinburgh and Rich's plan to never leave his venue, some new emergency questions and a nice chill vibe as the boys use up their full hour as best they can.Listen to Bilal's podcast Got A Problem Mate? here (or wherever you get your podcasts) - https://open.spotify.com/show/1jjEaZiF1lcGJtVUjSwRcGWatch Meeting Dad here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVmcddcVnvsSUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. #435 Glisten With Mother - Richard has had to deal with a persistent heckler (aka his son) and surprised himself with the cliche that he responded with. His guest is banker turned comedian Eshaan Akbar. They discuss not knowing how to wear trousers or shake hands, his inappropriately named dance group, challenging your childhood religion through comedy and why that was potentially more perilous for Eshaan, than Richard, whether it was right that Eshaan ended up doing the brown voices on Spitting Image, not wanting to be the spokesperson for any community or being forced to challenge inequality, when you believe yourself to be everyone's equal. The show included an erudite and interesting alternate point of view from an Asian member of the audience, which sadly was not picked up by the microphones, but which we hopefully discussed fairly nonetheless. Plus the story of a twisted testicle with a happy endingPS Eshaan and Richard successfully shook hands as they left the stage.Come and see us live http://richardherring.com/rhlstpSUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. Monday 16th March 2026 Dead as a Dodo - Rich and Ally are back for another week in the newsround studio, despite really having too much to do. They are discussing plans to resurrect the dodo. I don't have time to write the blurb as I have to take my daughter to the train station.Tuesday 17th March 2026 - Banksy Uncovered - Rich and Ally are here with all the big news stories and today reveal the true identity of controversial artist Banksy (can you guess what Cocky Carrot calls him?). Journalism at its finest.Wednesday 18th March 2026 Receding Bums - Rich and Ally are back to talk about how many times a day you should be brushing your teeth and what might happen to you if you fail to hit that number. It's more of an intervention than a news programme. Still ignored by the lamestream media.Thursday 19th March 2026 - Bigfeet - Rich and Ally are back to give you all the news the lame stream media doesn't want you to see. Today they're looking at whether the very convincing 1967 footage of a Big Foot walking through a forest is a real Big Foot or just a man dressed up as a Big Foot. With special report from a forest somewhere. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

RHLSTP Book Club #174 - Finding Albion - Richard is back at the Podcast Room talking to DJ and probably the coolest person who has ever been on Book Club (not much contest) Zakia Sewell. They chat about her quest to discover the roots of Britishness in our folk traditions, whether Morris Men are good or evil and why some of them refuse to give up the dodgier aspects of the craft, Cheddar Man and how little his family travelled in 10,000 years, what the idea of indigenous Britain might even mean, confronting the less admirable aspects of British history and present, dressing up as a wolf in Cornwall, why the rest of the world should be grateful to England and what are Zakia's hopes for the future?Buy the book here - https://uk.bookshop.org/p/books/finding-albion-myth-folklore-and-the-quest-for-a-hidden-britain-longlisted-for-the-women-s-prize-for-non-fiction-2026-zakia-sewell/ac1b8680af0c4bbaSUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. RHLSTYP #603 - Paddy McGuinness' Richard Osman Dart Board - Rich is back in Chelmsford revealing what Charles Dickens has to say about the place and Greater Anglia's possibly foolish plan to keep down the pigeon population at Chelmsford Station. His guest hates the English and so Rich has deliberately brought him to the most English place on earth to see what fireworks ensue - it's the brilliant Vittorio Angelone. They chat about whether it's a dick move to win every day of House of Games, how Vittorio might have been a professional percussionist, the huge success of his podcast Mike and Vittorio's Guide To Parenting, how the title of his new show “you can't Say Nothing any more” is so good, it doesn't actually matter if the content is funny (it is), playing the Hammersmith Apollo and a new take on why Love Actually is a terrible film and why you should let Richard Curtis know on social media.Rich is old and flagging and his brain isn't working too well, so there's lots of waiting around for him to remember things. It's going to get worse as time goes on. Please bear in mind his age before criticising. #431 Sleeping Bag Vulva - Richard's Valentine's promises have turned to chocolatey crumbs, but never mind, his guest is a woman who built a bathroom from the laughter generated by animals- it's Zoe Lyons. Zoe takes us through the downs and ups of her last few years including a full on midlife crisis, the loss of her hair, how lockdown led her to delivering vegetables when she was meant to be on TV, writing material to impress her therapist and how badly she coped when she split from her wife and the possibly foolhardy decision to run 100km (in one go). But it's a very positive story, which you can see told in full in her brilliant new stand up tour Bald Ambition. Plus one of the best ghost stories yet and how getting older and giving less of a toss is a positive thing (though also explains Brexit)Come and see us live http://richardherring.com/rhlstpSUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. Monday 9th March 2026 - Ayatollah Khamanei Closer - Newsround is back with nipples on and we're looking at the very serious topic of Presidential assassination and whether it's the right way to go for a democratically elected President. It taking on the leadership of Iran a good idea at this juncture and will such a young leader be able to cope with the pressure?Tuesday March 10th - Braintree FC Water Tank Tribute - It's a late night newsround, cos Rich has been too busy all day to do it, but he didn't want you to miss the big news about Keith Flint's Satanic Churchyard Bench. Also some theological discussions about Satan and a nice song about starting fires.Wednesday 11th March - Crossing the Rubicon - Rich and Ally are back for the shoddiest Newsround yet, as they look at the worst person in the world, a man who cloned his beloved pet. Was it a waste of money when animals reproduce for free? Should you put all your eggs in one basket? What about a ventriloquist dummy/human hybrid? It's all utter nonsense today. They can't all be gold.Friday 13th March 2026 Faeces and Thyme (Time) - Rich and Ally are back after a brief break to bring you all the Roman poop news that you could want. Plus to take the piss out of some foreign academics for their dubious career choices. It's what the public want. Also a new reporter joins the team. It's the yeast we can do for you. Hosted on Acast. RHLSTP Book Club #173 - Cafe Chaos 2: The Way The Cookie Crumbles - Richard welcomes back his absolute favourite author, Catie Wilkins to talk about the new Cafe Chaos book. They chat about making the sequel accessible to those who haven't read the first book, writing as an 11 year old, when you have an 11 year old, debauched PTA quizzes, the inspiration for the too-many-beans storyline, the possibility of a TV series and hopefully a theme world, why Rich will give up comedy if the book is a success and creating characters, including realistic bullies/nemeses. His guest is the charming and Taskmaster hysterical Stevie Martin. They chat about doing adverts, working with Mitchell and Webb, eating cake out of a bin, the Taskmaster bounce and why she is loving touring, rating feet, how Lou Sanders made her throw up through the medium of chocolate, spitting raisins into a glass and the bizarre occurrence of Andrew Collins interviewing Stevie Martin and why Brighton thinks someone else is coming to gig for them soon. #428 Half a Melted KitKat - Richard reveals that he is (according to the press) boycotting the Edinburgh Fringe, but that doesn't mean the end of podcasts from the Festival necessarily. His guest is Taskmaster songstress and sausage painter, Fern Brady. They mainly talk about her remarkable new book Strong Female Character, detailing her life, career and discovery that she is autistic, how the media is weighted against the working class, how TV fails to depict the truth about strip clubs, how comedy was a world where she suddenly fitted in, why Taskmaster was a TV show where she also fitted in, why would anyone get married, unsettling Alex Horn and are your relatives coming back in bird form?Buy Fern's book - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audible-Strong-Female-Character/dp/B0BJ2SXTQF/Come and see us live http://richardherring.com/rhlstpSUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast.
