Kelly Kopp was 13 when God told him he would preach to millions. He spent the next two decades running. Punk bands, insult comedy that destroyed people for laughs, a tour management gig with Nickelback-level rock stars, then a near-fatal crash on a Nashville highway at 70 miles per hour. None of it broke him until one furious prayer in a truck on the way to pitch a TV show finally did. Kelly breaks down the difference between a beggar mindset and a believer mindset, why provision lives inside your calling rather than outside it, and the moment when God Himself walked into his Airbnb for two hours. If you have ever felt called to something bigger but wondered why nothing seems to land this episode will wreck you in the best way.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Anthony Cumia and Jim Norton discuss the logistical frustrations and social dynamics of the professional comedy world. The conversation transitions from a humorous critique of their own inability to manage business expenses and contract reimbursements to a nostalgic reflection on classic radio gags versus modern broadcasting standards. A significant portion of the exchange focuses on the art of performance, as they analyze acting techniques and recount the witty, often biting, verbal sparring that defines their inner circle of comedians. Jeremy Pinsly on Comedy & Greenpoint Comedy Club and Nashville Comedy | The Brett Allan Show This episode of The Brett Allan Show welcomes stand-up comedian, producer, and comedy entrepreneur Jeremy Pinsly. With over 15 years in the New York City comedy scene, Jeremy has built a reputation for creating unique, grassroots comedy experiences—from intimate apartment shows to full-scale club productions. Jeremy shares stories from his early days performing across NYC, producing shows everywhere from classic comedy clubs to underground speakeasies. He also reflects on his one-of-a-kind podcast with 89-year-old comedian and actress Dev Rogers, recorded in her rent-stabilized Upper West Side apartment—a project that blended generations of comedy and life wisdom. We also dive into Bubbe's Comedy Hour, the wildly successful apartment comedy show Jeremy co-created with his wife Kayla, which ran for over two years and became a cult favorite among comedy fans. Now based in Nashville, Jeremy is continuing to build the comedy scene in a major way—producing shows at iconic venues like Friends in Low Places on Broadway and launching new spaces for stand-up across the city. Most recently, he founded the Greenpoint Comedy Club, marking an exciting new chapter in his career. If you're a fan of stand-up, comedy culture, or the hustle behind building something from the ground up, this episode delivers insight, laughs, and inspiration.

The wind is loud, the sunset is unreal, and the Oklahoma City Wharf lighthouse is way smaller than it has any right to be. I'm posted up outside trying to beat the sun, keep the gear from flying away, and somehow turn a chaotic day into a real podcast. What starts as a scenic rant turns into a string of painfully relatable moments: getting humbled at a drive-thru coffee spot, realizing I don't understand modern coffee menus, and questioning why everything needs a script just to buy caffeine. From there, I slide into the stuff people actually argue about: being childfree, loving spontaneity, and the awkward social pressure that shows up when your friends' lives revolve around school pickup and parenting. I'm not trying to be edgy I'm trying to be honest about what kind of life fits me, what I'm jealous of, and what I'm not willing to trade away. There's also plenty of classic discombobulated energy, including public-stare paranoia, dating double standards, and the kind of oversharing that only feels normal when you're holding a mic outside. Then we get to the weekend recap: a killer run at Twister's Comedy Club, discovering I genuinely love roasting, and a karaoke night that turns into a full-on bar legend. One sweet first-timer keeps announcing she's “never done karaoke,” signs up again and again, and eventually tries to steal the mic during the final song. We close with road-life decisions wings, casinos, car messes and the one boundary that's actually changing everything: I stop giving my energy to moments that don't deserve it. If you laughed, cringed, or felt a little called out, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review. He walked past the pond like he owned the whole morning, and I'm telling you it was Ethan Hawke. I'm sitting in an Oklahoma garden recording a comedy podcast because it felt peaceful for five minutes, and then the road brain kicks in: spring can't decide what it's doing, a lawn blower is always nearby, and my thoughts start sprinting.I talk through what touring actually feels like when you're bouncing between Tulsa and Oklahoma City, chasing stage time, and trying not to spiral about money. There's a lot of joy in the dream, too: driving across the country while everything starts to bud, finding weird little stops that make the day feel human, and getting excited to judge a roast battle at Twister's Comedy Club. If you like stand-up comedy, road stories, and the unfiltered reality of life between shows, this one lands right in that lane. Then it gets practical and paranoid in the way travel does right now. I rant about TSA, the added stress people are talking about with ICE agents at airports, and the specific chaos of trying to protect your phone while you're also chugging water you're not allowed to bring. Add in the universal nightmare of major highway gas station bathrooms and those lines where everyone pretends they're fine, and you've got the touring comedy lifestyle in miniature. If you're anywhere near Oklahoma City, come see me at Twister's, and if you can't, you can still help a ton by sharing the show. In this stand-up comedy set, comedian John Novosad delivers sharp, absurd storytelling fueled by bad decisions, everyday logic failures, and looking exactly like the person people worry about at night. From eating things you absolutely shouldn't, to navigating banks, debt, public transportation, and awkward human interactions, this set blends dry humor, self-awareness, and escalating chaos. John's laid-back delivery turns simple observations into hilarious moments that spiral in the best possible way.Filmed live at Laugh After Dark Comedy Fest, this performance captures the heart of stand-up comedy. Hilarious jokes, unexpected turns, and laughs that build naturally as the stories unravel.
Sam and Jeff dive into a wildly entertaining catch‑up session that spans a destination wedding in San José del Cabo, unexpected yacht drama, surprise LGBTQ plot twists, and a weekend full of sun, whales, karaoke, and chaos. Their stories weave through bar mishaps, awkward encounters, hidden hotel romances, and a hilariously tense cab ride—all while one friend navigates sobriety with grace and grit. Back home, the conversation spirals into comedy‑club disasters, rugby‑bar mayhem, Super Bowl reactions, celebrity gossip, conspiracy theories, book recs, and even a drunken Dawson's Creek tattoo. It's a fast, funny, and delightfully unhinged recap of travel, friendships, pop culture, and the strange ways life keeps surprising them.

Kyle Jones sits down with comedian and comedy club owner Dan Betts to talk business, risk, and live entertainment. Dan shares what it really took to relocate and reopen The Well Comedy Club in downtown Bakersfield, why comedy is booming in a short-attention-span world, and how live shows create an experience you can't stream at home. The two also dive into the passion, mindset, and problem-solving required to build a business from the ground up. Daniel Betts is a man of many hats: husband, father, U.S. Navy veteran, geology major, former career in oil and gas, former Executive Director of The Portrait of a Warrior Gallery, business owner, and touring comedian. He's the owner of The Well Comedy Club in downtown Bakersfield, where he continues to build a home for live comedy and community. What's the point of having a water bottle if you always forget it? How did you get your "Letterman" Jacket? The hour kicks off with Barbara Holliday, owner of Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank, sharing stories from behind the scenes of one of LA’s most iconic comedy venues. She talks about the challenges and wins of running a live entertainment business and what it takes to keep comedy alive in a changing industry. Barbara stays on for more, highlighting Flappers as a 100% woman-owned business and discussing her journey as an entrepreneur, the importance of community support, and what makes Flappers a staple for comics and fans alike. Petros Papadakis then joins the show to break down a developing college gambling scandal, offering his trademark insight and strong opinions on what it means for college sports. The hour wraps with lighter fare as Petros takes on the challenge of guessing the voice behind Kazoo on The Flintstones, leading to classic guy talk and laughs to close things out. Comedy, sports controversy, and pure Conway chaos all in one hour.
What's it like to be the Executive Chef at a comedy club? It's a question most people don't know the answer too, which is why I loved having this conversation with Brian. We talked about how to "chef up" burgers and chicken tenders, the various requests famous comedians make, preparing for potential "Chopped" appearances, the value of cooking school, and the social toll working in restaurants takes on cooks' lives. It's a wide-ranging conversation that opened my eyes in several ways.

PLEASE SIGN UP ON PATREON, EVEN IF IT'S FOR FREE! Posting everything here has become a burden, and if you're only listening to this feed you probably aren't getting all of the episodes. Sign up now at Patreon. It’s two podcasts (Pod Yourself and the Frotcast) for the price of one! Patreon dot com slash frotcast! This is just a teaser, but you can hear the full episode by signing up on Patreon. This week, Matt is unhappily parenting, or maybe just looking for parking, in Sedona, Arizona, and Brendan is fixing an exploding pool pump, but that’s no reason to fret, because we’re ringing in the year with Sean Keane, from the Roundball Rock podcast and soon to be playing Cobb’s Comedy Club this January 7th in San Francisco. We’re discussing New Year’s Eve, and how it’s by far the most overrated holiday, but also mourning the death of a true poster, Mike Fossey, aka Mike F, by reading a few of his greatest posts. Then we mourn our dead The Wire actors, Ziggy and Clay Davis, and I tell the story of my one Isiah Whitlock Jr. encounter, which Matt rudely interrupts to call in from Sedona, Arizona while he’s in the middle of pooping. He tells us all about the crystal vortex and why he hates vacation parenting and thinks everyone in Sedona is actually on drugs. After that, we discuss Gwyneth Paltrow’s journey from actress to Goop CEO and back to actress again (Sean read a book!), and since it’s year-end list season, we review the one awards season film that Sean has seen, which happens to be Jay Kelly. Didja ever notice that Jay Kelly would’ve been much better if it had been about Adam Sandler’s character? Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? That leads into a bunch of related discussions, about American Beauty, Ben Affleck’s greatest roles and how well he lays pipe. And also Is This Thing On? and movies about stand-up comedy just generally. The regular Frot boys will be back next week, but in the meantime hope you like Sean and I just bullshitting about movies for a while. As always, no refunds.
Roy Wood Jr. joins Mark and Sam for a killer episode packed with road stories, comedy history, and hard-earned wisdom. The guys swap tales about bombing on Star Search, opening for Ron White, taking a private jet with Adam Sandler, and what really happens when you accidentally use the headliner's bathroom. Roy breaks down life after The Daily Show, the future of stand-up specials, and lessons learned from his dad, his peers, and decades in the game.
