The Justice Project South Africa has reacted with outrage to reports that vehicle licence fees could be hiked by up to 72 percent next year. The proposed increase has been published in a Government Gazette. The project has asked Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi to justify the increase. According to the Gazette 72 rand will be added to all vehicle renewal fees as part of a transaction fee to be paid to the Road Traffic Management Corporation.
