During his latest address to the nation providing further details on COVID 19 restrictions, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the curfew now begins at 11PM until 4AM. This will also be in effect on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Questions have arisen that if a motorist is involved in a car accident during the curfew period, where technically they are breaking the law by being on the road without the necessary permit. The Justice Project South Africa has reacted with outrage to reports that vehicle licence fees could be hiked by up to 72 percent next year. The proposed increase has been published in a Government Gazette. The project has asked Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi to justify the increase. According to the Gazette 72 rand will be added to all vehicle renewal fees as part of a transaction fee to be paid to the Road Traffic Management Corporation. We speak to Howard Dembovsky from Justice Project South Africa.
