A new political movement, Move SA, has officially registered to contest this year's municipal elections. The organization, spearheaded by prominent housing entrepreneur Rali Mampeule has reportedly established seventy branches and signed up over five thousand members across Gauteng within its first month. Mampeule, known for driving large-scale infrastructure projects says the party will focus directly on municipal accountability and failing basic services. Gauteng Human Settlements warns residents against groups and individuals claiming credit for housing allocations, stressing that RDP and BNG houses are allocated through an established, regulated system. The Department says no activist, organisation or individual can influence waiting lists or fast-track applications. The department says Residents are urged not to pay anyone for housing. The death toll in Saturday night’s shooting at a flat in Newclare, west of Johannesburg, has risen to four. Police are investigating four counts of murder and one of attempted murder after one of the injured victims died in hospital. Three people were declared dead at the scene. The motive remains unknown, and no arrests have been made. Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko says detectives are continuing their investigation to establish what led to the shooting and identify those responsible.

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature's Community Safety Committee meets today in Sandton to examine the management of Community Policing Forums and community patrollers. The session follows claims of intimidation, threats of contract termination and interference with patrollers' right to freedom of association. The case against a 23 year old man arrested in connection with the murders of two women and two police officers in Reiger Park on Gauteng's East Rand, has been postponed to the 25th of this month at the Boksburg Magistrate's Court. Reegan Collins was arrested over the weekend following a multi-disciplinary operation that led to the recovery of two R5 rifles, at the KwaDukathole Informal Settlement in Germiston. At the time of his arrest he was out on bail for two separate cases of murder as well as two cases of attempted murder. He is facing four counts of murder as well as possession of unlicensed firearms.

The ANC in Gauteng is mourning the sudden death of its provincial spokesperson, Mzikayifani Elias Khumalo, who passed away at the age of 54 yesterday. Khumalo reportedly collapsed at his home in Ruimsig, Johannesburg and later passed away in hospital. Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile says school safety remains a major concern, with the department reviewing its seven-pillar safety strategy. Maile says Search-and-seizure operations will continue at schools, both announced and unannounced. Maile says the department is spending R165 million on school patrollers, while working with SAPS and Community Safety to strengthen security and combat crime. Maile was briefing the media outlining plans to curb issues affecting Gauteng schools. Over 44-thousand applications have already been received since Gauteng's online admissions system opened on Thursday. The Gauteng Department of Health is mourning the death of a 19-year-old first-year nursing student at Chris Hani Baragwanath Nursing College in Soweto. She was found dead in her residence room on Tuesday evening after a friend raised concerns. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. The department of Health in Gauteng says it has activated counselling and psychosocial support services for students, lecturers, staff, and the bereaved family. Westbury residents in Johannesburg are taking to the streets to protest against spiraling crime and gangsterism which has paralysed the area. The residents are demanding urgent action against escalating gang violence and drug-related crime. The community is calling for lasting solutions instead of temporary police deployments. Residents have criticised poor police visibility, saying officers patrol in convoys rather than engaging with the community through stop-and-search operations. Westbury remains one of Gauteng's gang violence hotspots, with many residents living in fear. Sakina kamwendo spoke to Jefferson Alistair Johnson, Westbury community activist.

Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) has partnered with INDLU, a property financial technology company that empowers landowners to build, manage, and earn from high-quality rental housing. The programme aims to bridge the national housing gap—currently estimated at 2.3 million units—by providing sustainable, affordable credit to micro-developers who have historically been excluded from traditional banking sectors due to a perceived lack of formal collateral. Scalco says the programme represents a blueprint for how South African capital markets can drive large-scale, powerful social impact without compromising financial performance. Already delivered are over 2 200 high-quality rental units in areas such as Tembisa, Mamelodi, and Cosmo City. “From a pure sort of job creation perspective, there's quite a few local contractors that have built up teams and businesses. One of the success stories is one of the local contractors actually now does work across Sandton, Four Ways. So they've actually kind of branched out of just focusing on working with the INDLU team to build those units to building across South Africa, or building across Gauteng - and that's actually such a great story. It just shows you the power of getting an opportunity.”
