Fresno police are actively enforcing a curfew for minors (under 18) during the summer as part of a safety initiative. It’s part of a “Summer Crime Suppression Operation.” The goal is to reduce crime, prevent dangerous situations & keep teens safe at night. A group in Fresno called the Church of Lucifer launched a kids program called “Tiny Torches.” It’s focused on teaching esoteric arts, nature-based beliefs, and free‑thinking ideas to young people. In this straight-shooting Craft of Fatherhood episode of Fatherhood Field Notes, Ned Schaut calls fathers back to two lost arts of manhood: listening well and leading with purpose. Ned challenges dads to stop being the constant lecturer, fixer, and rule-enforcer—and instead become the trusted voice and steady ear their children actually want to come to. He shares how some of the deepest moments with his daughters came not through speeches, but through quiet conversations in the car, in the hot tub, and in everyday life. His warning is blunt: if a father won't listen to his daughter, some immature boy eventually will. The second half of the episode pushes fathers to rethink discipline, chores, curfews, and household rules. Ned argues that great dads don't enforce rules just for control—they connect expectations to character formation. Curfews become lessons in respect and communication. Chores become lessons in responsibility. Family standards become training ground for adulthood. This is a practical, masculine reminder that fatherhood is not passive—it is leadership, stewardship, and sacrifice. ---------Check Out the Program Talked About: Genesis by Rise Up KingsThis episode is sponsored by Genesis - a Rite of Passage by Rise Up KingsOrder The Adventure of Fatherhood children's book hereCheck out the TEDx----------Want to learn more about The Adventure of Fatherhood?www.adventureoffatherhood.comwww.rebelandcreate.comEach week Ned sits down with a dad and asks him to open up his field notes and share with other men who find themselves on the Adventure of Fatherhood. Hour 4 opens with Eric Schmidt addressing the Arctic Frost investigation during a Capitol Hill hearing, raising concerns about whether federal law enforcement was used as a political tool rather than strictly pursuing criminal investigations. The show then moves into economic and geopolitical tension with Taylor Riggs analyzing rising instability in the Strait of Hormuz, potential oil market impacts, and how futures pricing and earnings strength are shaping investor confidence despite Middle East uncertainty. Earlier in the hour, Kurt Bahr breaks down the tied St. Charles council race decided by drawing names, explaining Missouri recount law, audit procedures, and the cost and process of a potential full recount. The hour also features a discussion on escalating teen street takeovers across multiple U.S. cities, focusing on curfews, arrests of very young offenders, and growing concerns about parental accountability and youth behavior.    Did you know Kansas is ground zero for an underground nuclear test?  It's not the kind you might think of with explosions and all that, no, this is about a new age of nuclear power generated a mile below the surface.    As TSA has staffing shortages, Senator Ron Johnson is calling for the agency to be privatized along with Air Traffic Control.  The post office is broke, maybe we should look at that, too.    The buzz on the Royals is real folks and it's so hot right now we're now going to be disappointed if the Royals don't make the playoffs.  At the same time, we'll talk a little Washington Square Park (Crown Center) which seems to be the big fave for a new ballpark.    St. Louis is hosting the NCAA tourney downtown so they've decided to have a curfew for teenagers.  I have just one question on this and it's a  really good one.

Collaborative & Proactive Solutions with Your Children that Don't Require Punishment featuring Dr. Ross Greene

In this powerful conversation, I sit down with Dr. Ross Greene, clinical psychologist and creator of the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) model, to unpack why traditional rewards and punishments often make behavior worse — not better. We dive deep into why "because I said so" stops working, what your child's frustration is actually communicating, and how to shift from authoritarian control to collaborative leadership that builds trust, accountability, and critical thinking.   If you've ever thought, "Why is this not working anymore?" this episode will give you a radically different lens — and practical tools you can use immediately.     Timeline Summary [0:00] Why power struggles are so common in parenting [2:00] Introducing Dr. Ross Greene and the CPS model  [6:17] Why rewards and punishments don't solve the real problem  [8:33] Concerning behavior as a frustration response  [12:04] The 3-step collaborative problem-solving process explained  [16:19] Real-life example: solving teeth brushing battles with a 3-year-old  [30:56] Curfew conflict and how to navigate teenage resistance  [37:16] How collaborative parenting builds critical thinking  [41:56] Why authoritarian parenting may cause long-term harm  [47:06] Developmental variability — why every child is different  [49:23] Why noncompliance is informative, not defiance  [56:31] Accountability through collaboration — not punishment      Five Key Takeaways Concerning behavior is a signal, not a character flaw. It communicates an unsolved problem.  Rewards and punishments modify behavior — they don't solve the underlying issue.  The 3-step CPS process (Empathy, Define Adult Concern, Invitation) reduces conflict and builds trust.  Noncompliance is information. It tells you an expectation may exceed your child's current skill set.  Collaborative leadership builds accountability, emotional regulation, and critical thinking.      Links & Resources Dad Edge Alliance Preview Call: http://thedadedge.com/preview Dad Edge Business Boardroom (Mastermind): https://thedadedge.com/mastermind Dr. Ross Greene — Lives in the Balance (Free Resources): https://livesinthebalance.org Episode Show Notes & Resources: https://thedadedge.com/1442   Closing Remark   If this episode challenged how you think about discipline, accountability, and leadership at home, don't just sit on it — put it into practice.
