Happy International Women's Day 2026! In this special episode of the Coaching Podcast, Georgina talks all things Women's Health with a focus on paddling with her guest Dr Jagruti Amin (Jag) who has been a white water kayaker since 2013 and is a member of Paddle UK. It's an almost hour long whirlwind tour from the teenage years through to the menopause, with something in it for everyone. Jag is a GMC registered Dr (4645311) who qualified and started seeing patients in 1999 but had to give up her Licence to Practise in 2018 because of psoriatic arthritis. After studying medicine at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford she started her career in hospitals training in medicine. She started specialist training in Haematology before deciding to move to the world of General Practice in 2006 which included a 6 month training post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. As a fully fledged GP she had an interest in Women's Health, Contraception, Sexual Health and Safeguarding. For several years she also held separate roles as a Contraception and Sexual health Dr and a Named GP for Safeguarding Children. She was involved in medical politics as a representative on her Local Medical Council. Despite no longer seeing patients she's remained passionate about Women's Health and women advocating for themselves. A special thanks goes to Dr Kaye Brennan who is a GP, a Specialist Sports & Exercise Medicine Dr, a Council Member of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and also works for the Ministry of Defence for her help and guidance in some of the more specialist areas in this podcast. Véronique Cardi est PDG des Éditions JC Lattès et des Éditions du Masque.Passionnée de littérature depuis l'enfance, elle a « fait de sa zone de plaisir sa zone de réussite ».À moins de trente ans, elle crée sa propre Maison d'édition en intrapreneuriat. À seulement trente-deux ans, elle est propulsée Directrice du Livre de Poche (Groupe Hachette). Puis vient la présidence des Éditions JC Lattès.Un parcours rare dans le monde de l'édition.Dans cette première partie, nous parlons de ce chemin et de sa vision de la littérature. Pour Véronique, le livre n'est pas un produit comme un autre : il peut déplacer des lignes, participer à la conversation sociale, parfois transformer.Elle envisage son métier comme une mission.Chaque jour, les équipes éditoriales reçoivent toujours plus de manuscrits, malgré la diminution des lecteurs. Le paradoxe est réel. Pourtant, le désir ne faiblit pas : « Ton désir ne s'émousse pas et ton regard s'aiguise, c'est ce qui fait les qualités d'une bonne éditrice. » Et le temps devient un allié : « Le regard s'affine avec le temps, on devient meilleure éditrice en vieillissant, la littérature a cette vertu-là. »Entre mission culturelle et responsabilité économique, l'édition est un métier d'arbitrage permanent. Sur une centaine de livres publiés chaque année, une dizaine constitue le socle économique qui permet de soutenir les autres titres.Parce que si la littérature demeure une matière subjective, l'équilibre d'une maison d'édition repose aussi sur une vision stratégique.Publier Olivia Ruiz, Dan Brown ou les mémoires de Britney Spears ne relève pas seulement d'une stratégie. I think the Government is making a terrible mistake ditching the second practical test for new drivers. I like some of the changes it's making to the driver licensing system. But getting rid of the second practical isn't one of them. I'll tell you why. But, first, what bits do I like? And what is missing from the changes? For starters, I like the idea of a zero-alcohol limit for all new drivers. At the moment, this only applies to new drivers under 20. The Government is going to apply that to all new drivers - whatever their age. I would have gone further and introduced a zero-alcohol rule for all drivers. But this is a good start. I also like the increased learner period for new drivers under-25 - which makes total sense because the numbers tell us, don't they, that any driver under the age of 25 is at greater risk of injury or death. So the more time they spend as a learner driver - which stops them running around town with passengers - that has to be a good thing. As to what's missing - I've always thought it's nuts that we only train and test new drivers within the town or city limits on 50 kph roads and do nothing to prepare them for driving on the open road. But my real concern is the second practical test getting the flick. I know Transport Minister Chris Bishop is saying New Zealand is a bit isolated in that regard. But doing something just because it's the way everyone else does it has never been a great justification for anything. When someone is starting out as a new driver, surely that's the time when you want every opportunity to iron out any bad habits. Because, like any bad habit, the sooner you nip it in the bud - the better. But with new drivers only having a practical test to get their restricted licence - and never being tested again until they're well past retirement age - that is not going to make our roads safer. The second practical test is the perfect opportunity for any bad driving habits someone has developed while they've been on their learner and restricted licences to be picked up and ironed out. It’s about to become cheaper, and easier, to get your driver’s license in New Zealand. Changes include scrapping the second practical test, a longer 12-month learner period for under 25s, new restricted periods, and an expanded zero-alcohol rule for all learner and restricted drivers – regardless of age. Transport Minister Chris Bishop has said the aim is to make licensing more efficient and affordable. The new system will take effect from the end of January next year. The Government will look at reforming the licence fee and consider more commercial revenue options for the BBC in plans outlined in its royal charter review. It comes amid disruption at the BBC following resignations from top executives and a lawsuit from US president Donald Trump, who is seeking up to 10 billion US dollars (£7.5 billion) in damages in response to the editing of a speech he made before the 2021 attack on the Capitol that was featured in a Panorama episode. The charter sets out the BBC's public purpose and is the constitutional basis for the corporation, which is predominately funded through the licence fee, paid by UK TV-watching households.Meanwhile, the Health Secretary has apologised to patients as doctors began a five-day walkout in England in an ongoing row over jobs and pay. It comes as healthcare leaders warned the impact of the strike will be “felt all the way into January and beyond”. Pour sortir leur économie du tout-pétrole, les Émirats arabes unis ont décidé de mettre leur population au travail. Le gouvernement a imposé des quotas d'embauche de ses citoyens dans le secteur privé, afin qu'ils constituent 10% de la main-d'œuvre d'ici 2026. Comment les entreprises se plient-elles à ces nouvelles règles, et comment changer les habitudes d'une population longtemps habituée aux subventions généreuses et aux emplois gouvernementaux peu contraignants ? De notre envoyée spéciale à Abou Dhabi, À Ras al-Khaimah, à l'extrême nord des Émirats arabes unis, une station balnéaire gigantesque sort de terre sur un littoral jusque-là peu exploité. Wafa el-Hassani, une architecte émirienne de 26 ans, participe à l'un des chantiers. « Le projet sur lequel je travaille est un ensemble d'habitations composé de deux immeubles », explique l'architecte chez Dewan Architects. Il s'agit d'un complexe à 351 millions d'euros impliquant plus de 800 employés. Gilet jaune et casque vissé sur la tête, Wafa incarne une nouvelle génération d'Émiriens. « Si par exemple, on pense à la génération de nos mères : à leur époque, les femmes ne travaillaient pas en dehors de la maison. Si on revient dix ans en arrière ou plus, c'était impossible de voir une Émirienne travailler sur un chantier. » À l'avenir, la jeune professionnelle ambitionne de diriger des projets de construction. « Trouver un vivier de talents est compliqué » À 100 kilomètres de là, entre les gratte-ciel, le quartier du design de Dubaï héberge Dewan Architects, le cabinet qui emploie Wafa, fondé il y a 41 ans par la famille de l'actuel PDG, Ammar al-Assam. « C'est un métier difficile, qui demande beaucoup de temps et de formation », confie celui-ci. Sur les 700 employés, 40 sont Émiriens, et les autres viennent de 50 pays du monde entier. L'entreprise applique les quotas, mais non sans défi. « Trouver un vivier de talents est donc compliqué, et fidéliser le personnel local l'est encore plus. La meilleure façon d'attirer les talents, c'est de les recruter dès la fin de leurs études », développe le PDG. Ouvrir des horizons professionnels aux étudiants À Abou Dhabi, la capitale, l'université de La Sorbonne a ouvert ses portes il y a vingt ans. Là-bas, 60% des étudiants sont émiriens. « En grande majorité, les administrations de Sécurité sociale sont financées grâce aux cotisations sociales », précise Antoine Lebrun, maître de conférences en droit public à La Sorbonne Abou Dhabi. Ce cours de droit public français a pour objectif d'ouvrir les horizons des étudiants comme Shaikha al-Ali, qui se préparent à conduire leur pays vers une sortie de la dépendance aux hydrocarbures. C'est le cas de Shaikha al-Ali, 20 ans. « J'aimerais être une avocate qualifiée et travailler dans un organisme semi-gouvernemental ou dans le secteur privé », ambitionne l'étudiante en Licence 2 de droit. L'enjeu est de taille dans ce pays où les nationaux ne représentent qu'un million d'habitants pour 10 millions d'étrangers, travailleurs migrants et expatriés. Nathalie Martial Braz, chancelière de l'université, éclaire : « Il faut que leur population soit formée, ils n'ont pas le choix.
