An estimated 900,000 Floridians drive our roads with suspended Drivers Licenses...your response ?...poll
On its own, you wonder what's the point of moving in this direction when we have perfectly good drivers licences in our back pockets. But it's not really about the driver's licence, it's about creating an app like NSW has, which allows people to do a whole lot of government related transactions simply and easily from their phones. Things like: car registrations, a WOF, paying road user chargers, road tolls, Inland Revenue and tax payments, dealing with superannuation and benefit payments – maybe even paying parking tickets. The lot! Which makes sense. We deal with so much of this online already, why not put in an ‘all-in-one' place. NSW rolled out the digital drivers licence in 2019 and today over 80% of drivers use their licence via the app. It's good to see the Minister acknowledge we need to have choice around this. A digital licence system can't exclude those who don't have access to the necessary technology or simply prefer to keep things offline. Groups like the elderly, rural communities in areas with poor connectivity, and people with low incomes could be disproportionately affected by a full switch to digital. So, it's good Kiwis will be given the choice to go digital or stay with the plastic. Digital licences may be a modern, forward-thinking move, but they also come with privacy risks. You can put all the security in place you like, but no system is entirely immune to cyberattacks, or accidental or intentional leaks. As I mentioned, much of what we do is already online, and I appreciate IDs will be decentralised and stored next to no personal information, but as our use of the app increases, will that remain the case? I'm probably sounding a little paranoid, but after having almost fallen for a sophisticated scam which used hacked information, I'm not relaxed about the amount of data I have online. So if we're going to do it, we do it well. This can't be rushed. It must be the best version it can be from the start. I'm a person who never buys the first version of a new piece of tech. I always give a provider time to sort out the kinks, and buy the second or third generation version. I feel the same about digital drivers licences. I can understand how practical they could be. I can appreciate how bringing everything together could make dealing with numerous government departments easier. It will even make creating fake licences harder for the kids to get into RNV. So I'm up for it. As long as I can make the move when I'm ready. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Slam The Gavel welcomes Senator Tammy Nichols from Idaho to the podcast. Senator Nichols (district 10) is a mother to five children. When she and other parents noticed an issue with Common Core in the school districts. That is when she started speaking to Representatives and Legislature, working with other organizations, then decided she should run for office. She also noticed a disconnect between the people and government. "People are supposed to be part of the process," states Senator Nichols. Senator Nichols talked about the task force in Idaho regarding family court. She was hearing from parents who were telling their stories and experiences in family court. These were professional parents; veterans, nurses, (parents with no criminal records) with egregious family court stories. More people started reaching out. We discussed their mind-blowing testimonies and the patterns that are affecting the process. Also, how a parent will spend years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to get their child back. This was started as Arizona had started a task force as well. Idaho followed suit. This is a national issue that is taking place. Utah did a re-vamp on child custody issues last year. There are very concerning issues regarding the courts such as no oversight. Mike Wills speak to Stephen Grootes — Money Show host on CapeTalk and 702, seasoned journalist, and sharp political commentator — who’s raising the alarm on what he calls the “driver’s licence card tyranny.” Grootes argues that our current licensing system is outdated, unnecessarily punitive, and may even be designed to sustain corrupt practices rather than genuinely serve the public. Presenter John Maytham is an actor and author-turned-talk radio veteran and seasoned journalist. His show serves a round-up of local and international news coupled with the latest in business, sport, traffic and weather. The host’s eclectic interests mean the program often surprises the audience with intriguing book reviews and inspiring interviews profiling artists. A daily highlight is Rapid Fire, just after 5:30pm. CapeTalk fans call in, to stump the presenter with their general knowledge questions. It all started with a discussion about the new Real ID's that we're all supposed to have now. That turned into talk about the weight on your drivers license...
Illinois lawmakers are set to make it easier for seniors to renew their driver's licenses. State Senator Ram Villivalam, working with the Illinois Secretary of State and AARP, is championing legislation that would raise the age for mandatory, in-person license renewals from 75 to 79. Under the plan, a road test would only be required at 87 instead of 79, unless the senior has a commercial license. Immediate family members would also be allowed to report medical concerns affecting a driver's abilities. Supporters say this move recognizes seniors as some of the state's safest drivers and streamlines the process for them.

Changes are coming to our drivers licensing system, with only one practical test in a bid to have more Kiwis on full licenses. Transport minister Chris Bishop tells Mike Hosking a lot of people 'don't bother' graduating from a restricted to full license. "There are a lot of people out there right now breaking the law, just driving on the restricted," he said. LISTEN ABOVE. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Friday's first hour.
The Am I Wrong? committee says it's time to introduce a new limited version of our state's drivers license to keep bad winter drivers off the roads during the snowy months.
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias joins Megan Lynch, pushing a new law that would allow family members to report unsafe driving by older-aged relatives. The law would eliminate an age-based mandatory driving test for older drivers. He points out the bi-partisan support for the law which would bring it in line with numerous neighboring states, while still being effective in keeping roadways safe. Credit: © Jack Gruber-USA TODAY

We answer these questions and more as we deconstruct Season 2, Episode 5 of Family Matters. Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. There can be pressure to do all these things while still a teenager, but is this realistic? In this episode, the teens discuss how they approach the typical "teenage bucket list," grapple with stress to be a certain way, and live authentically in the present.
