A chat with Richard McChesney about the Immerse Bible, what it is and how to get it.
This weekend, we will dive into the New Testament story and read it together in a fresh way. As you have likely heard by now, we will go through a new Bible experience called Immerse (Messiah). The Immerse Bible is designed to help communities experience the Bible together in a unique and powerful way. We will read it each week, listen to the sermons, and gather in book club style discussion time in small groups where we can share what stands out to us, what seems confusing, and how what we read can change the way we live. These warm and inviting group experiences set the table for authentic community interaction around the text. You'll find details on this, how to join a group if you are not in one, and how to get a hold of the Immerse reading plan at damascus.com/immerse. I'll share the vision behind this and some key things to look out for as we embark on this adventure this weekend. Don't miss it!

Show Notes: In this season of our podcast, we're going to look at the new Immerse Challenge that McLane Church has jumped into, with the book: “Beginnings” and, like before, we're going to answer your questions that come from the weekly readings and the current sermon series. Join us for a new Immerse 8-week Bible reading experience beginning on January 31! Immerse: Beginnings is the second of six volumes and takes the reader on a new and unique journey through the first five books of the Bible: the Pentateuch. As God's covenant community follows the instructions laid out in the Pentateuch, they not only receive God's blessings but also are uniquely positioned to bring renewal and healing to the world and to show all peoples the true character and nature of God. *** You can purchase the book, Beginnings, at Tyndale or your favorite online bookseller or listen to the free audio recordings here or on Apple Podcasts. Today Perry and Shawna welcome to the team Paul Caminiti of the Institute for Bible Reading to talk about a new bible that could be a game changer for how you read the bible. It’s called Immerse and it’s formatted for you to read the bible for what it is: A grand, epic love story. There are six sections of Immerse with no chapters and verses and each book of the bible has an introduction that helps you understand that book in light of the one story of the Bible. So we talk about how this bible is impacting the church at the Ionia prison and why. Paul shares the story of a woman on staff at a church who felt ashamed that she found the bible boring, but how the Immerse bible caused God’s word to come to alive. We talk about a church in Ft. Worth that doubled the number of people that got involved in their bible reading plan and how it impacted people outside the faith. Then Paul shares why he loves the bible so deeply, in his words “It saved my life.” You can get a free download of Luke/Acts from the Immerse Bible at ImmerseFromHome.com.
Pastor John continues his conversation with Paul Caminiti and Glenn Paauw from the Institute for Bible Reading about the Immerse Bible Reading Experience. Today we hear how God led Glenn to be part of this work, and some interesting things they discovered about the development of the modern English bible. Show Notes
Pastor John beings a new series of episodes looking at the Immerse Bible Reading Experience. He begins by introducing the two men who developed the tool, Paul Caminiti and Glenn Paauw. In this episode, we hear the story of how God led Paul to this work. Show Notes
Join us this Sunday as we begin our new winter series "King of Kings." This series will loosely parallel our Immerse Bible reading through Kingdoms mostly through character studies of some of the significant people we encounter in Kingdoms. Since we've spent a fair amount of time with Joshua over the past two years, we begin this Sunday with the book of Judges. Yes...the whole book of Judges in one Sunday...prepare to latch onto the fire hydrant! ;)
God knows us, where we are, what our past is, what our future is, and has a plan for our lives. We start reading Revelation today in the Immerse Bible reading program. www.dailychristianpodcast.com
It’s easy to simply refer to varying philosophies of Bible translation as either “formal” or “functional,” but are these valid categories? What are the values and setbacks of these different translations of Scripture? How does contemporary linguistics help us think through this? On this episode of Tool Talk, Travis chats with Todd Scacewater (Exegetical Tools, Fontes Press, Wycliffe Bible Translators) about linguistics and Bible translation.
