Guerra is a serial healthcare entrepreneur with a deep commitment to helping consumers make better healthcare decisions. Along with his Co-founder, Dr. Peter Hudson, he was listed as a top innovator reinventing healthcare in CNN Money 2012. On the Wednesday, November 13th 2013 broadcast at 10AM Pacific/1PM Eastern our special guests are two innovators and disruptors of the legacy healthcare economy Peter Hudson, MD and Wayne Guerra MD. Two enterprising emergency medicine physicians who saw opportunity in the convergence between the mobile 'smart' phone and the 'real time' or elective need to access local and appropriate healthcare resources. Via a revolutionary mobile appiTriage aka @iTriage on twitter both Peter and Wayne have delivered and in a big way. Both of these forward leaning docs can be found on twitter via @wayneguerra and peterhudsonMD respectively, which incidentally is where and how I fist met Wayne while Peter is a more recent convert to the medium. The iTriage and Healthagen unfolding story is both fascinating and ambitious, and via their collective thoughts we'll gain insight into the overall strategy they envision - at least from their seats in the glidepath. Join me and my partner Dr Pat Salber as we learn more about the Aetna fueled yet payor agnostic ecosystem Healthagen intends co-create. Program note: if you need more evidence than the fact that all three of these physicians including my partner Dr. Pat Salber are trained Emergency Physicians who have stepped into leadership and innovation in a big way, then I don't know what else to say. ER docs rule! Join us!

Go to iTriage Symptom Checker, need information about a disease? You’ll find complete clinical descriptions from A to Z. National Nurses United Jackson Park nurses in Chicago recently won their first ever collective bargaining contract that includes significant improvements in patient care protections. RN Monica Lloyd is here to speak with us. “The people we take care of are poor or middle class. Some have insurance, some do not, but I still believe they deserve the best care possible…Our patient ratios were 8 to 1, 9 to 1…It’s hard for us to take care of our patients when we are already overloaded.” Casey agrees, “When nurses are treated better, patients get treated better.” Monica’s advice to other nurses around the country: “You’ve got to stop saying ‘It won’t change.’ You’ve got to make the change. Two megatrends are locking in: Massive incentive change and information liberation, says Todd Park, CTO of the US Department of Health and Human Services. The federal programs must lead the way in changing from fee-for-service to incentives for value in healthcare. Medicare, Medicaid, and the Veteran’s Administration represent the largest repository of public health data in the world. More information about the public health, stripped of personal identification, is being made available so that innovators can use it to learn more about public health, and create health-maximizing options. Private insurers adopt the same pay structure as the federal programs, therefore, HHS must be the one to initiate more efficient means of delivering, and charging for, health value. Park identifies three parts to data liberation in the health care industry: 1) Patient data liquidity—including making records available to the patients themselves; 2) market transparency—listing benefits and pricing of every public and private insurance plan available in the U.S. through healthcare.gov; and 3) a health data initiative to let people know what data is available on the population at large, and releasing it for anyone’s use. Some private innovations from this data release include Asthmapolis, which helps people control their asthma, and iTriage. Coordination of service, identification of gaps, methods of efficiency developed in industries outside of health care need to be brought in to rework the healthcare industry, according to Park. https://ssir.org/podcasts/entry/todd_park_changing_behavior_and_changing_policies_panel_part_3
