What does it actually look like to leave the familiarity of UK retail buying and move to Dhaka, Bangladesh, to work on the supplier side? In this episode, we sit down with Nadya - a buyer turned product manager at Next Sourcing- who did exactly that. With a background spanning REISS, Crew Clothing, and lululemon, Nadya shares the career moments that shaped her, the leap of faith that took her across the world, and what she's learning from the other side of the supply chain.Nadya's story starts, as so many do, with a spark of inspiration at a young age, digging through her mum's '80s wardrobe and knowing instinctively that fashion was her world. But it was a chance encounter at a careers fair in Sweden, where a buyer from H&M was speaking, that made everything click. From that moment, every decision- moving to London at 19, studying buying and merchandising at the London College of Fashion, her roles at REISS and Crew Clothing was working towards that goal. But after years building a solid career in UK retail, Nadya found herself at a crossroads. A recruiter reached out about a product manager role at Next Sourcing in a role she'd actually first heard about years earlier from a colleague and quietly filed away as a dream. This time, she took the leap. Within two months she had her visa, had packed up her life, and was on a one-way flight to Dhaka. We talk about what her day-to-day actually looks like now, weekly factory visits, fabric sourcing, trend scouting, pitching new product ideas directly to Next, and how being embedded in the hub of manufacturing has completely changed the way she sees the industry. We also get into the bigger conversations: the future of sourcing trips, the impact of geopolitics on supply chains, the rise of AI in product development, and what sustainability really looks like from inside a factory.Three Key Takeaways1. Being on the ground changes everything.Nadya is passionate about the value of factory visits and sourcing trips - something she feels is being quietly eroded by budget cuts. Whether it's understanding why a supplier physically can't do something, or seeing what's being produced right now (and therefore what will hit stores in a few months), there are things you simply cannot learn from behind a laptop. Her message: fight to keep those budgets in.2. Pivoting to the supplier side gives you a whole new lens.Moving from buying to product management hasn't just been a change of scenery - it's completely reframed how Nadya sees the supply chain. Those delivery delays and last-minute requests she used to push back on as a buyer? She now understands exactly why they happen. The empathy and insight she's gained in just two months in Dhaka is something she says no amount of time in a UK office could replicate.3. AI is coming and you have to use it, not fear it.From AI imagery in design packs to 3D model-making, Nadya is already seeing AI reshape how product development works. Her take: it's not going backwards, so the only option is to figure out how to make it work for you. The upside? Less over-sampling, less waste, better hit rates and ultimately a more sustainable industry.Enjoyed this episode? This week, we sit down with menswear designer George W Alvin for an honest conversation about fashion, identity, creativity, and mental health within the industry. Having previously worked with Reiss and alongside leading menswear designers, George reflects on his journey through the fashion world from the pressures of established brands to finding the courage to start again on his own terms. We discuss why research and understanding your vision are essential when building a brand, and how experience, setbacks, and self-belief all shape the creative process. George opens up about discovering contentment through creating independently and what it means to redefine success beyond industry expectations. The conversation also explores the darker realities of toxic work environments in fashion how exhaustion, loss of confidence, pressure, and unhealthy cultures can lead to depression, burnout, and long-term mental health struggles. Together, we ask an important question: how can the industry evolve to protect creativity without breaking the people behind it? A raw, thoughtful, and deeply honest episode about resilience, reinvention, and changing the culture of fashion from within.

A free and independent press has long been understood as a core element of healthy and secure democracies. Particularly in the realm of national security and foreign policy, news reporting and investigations are an integral source of information that enables the American public to evaluate the decisions of their elected officials. Yet today the press is facing new or newly acute challenges arising from the executive branch, Congress, and even the media industry itself—all unfolding against the backdrop of an already-siloed and mistrustful information landscape. What is it like to lead a newsroom and report on national security issues today? Which legal issues are top of mind for media and free speech lawyers and scholars? What are the most pressing challenges and opportunities? On May 18, the Reiss Center on Law and Security and Just Security convened a discussion with frontline experts to address these questions. 1986. gada 27. aprīlī no Rīgas uz Čornobiļu devās 10 vagonu liels vilciena sastāvs. Vilciena pavadoņi nākamās 105 dienas pavadīja komandējumā. Viņi evakuēja radiācijas skartos bērnus. Milicijas aplenktas stacijas, autobusu kolonnas, mazi, raudoši bērni un lieli čemodāni. Bet tālāk - garš ceļš ar smagu saindēšanos. Pavadoņi, kuri no bezspēka aizmieg kājās stāvot. Un tika vēlāk uzzina, ka līdz ar bērniem ved arī radiāciju. Un tā mainīs arī viņu dzīvi. Par šo reisu nav atrodams neviens dokuments vai rīkojums. Tas bija slepens.

My guest for this episode of Necronomicast is best selling author/journalist Bob Reiss! His work has always been inspired by the border between order and anarchy, the moment when peace becomes chaos, order becomes danger and events once considered impossible suddenly turn real. His journalism has brought him to research and military bases in the Arctic and Antarctica, where he's covered climate change and potential conflict in polar regions, to Sudan, Somalia and South Africa, where he wrote about drought, rebellion and civil unrest, and to the Amazon rainforest where his dispatches about murder and environmental destruction made him a national magazine award finalist. Bob has advised European politicians on US Arctic policy. He's moderated National Academy of Sciences meetings on disease outbreaks in polar regions. He's accompanied Coast Guard missions on a polar icebreaker and against drug runners off Central America. Bob's fiction has been called "sparkling and fast paced." (Washington Post) "Dead On!" (People Magazine) "First Rate!" (Rocky Mountain News) "Gripping...Riveting" (Publishers Weekly. "Splendid. Great writing. Great suspense. Great action." (Los Angeles Times). He's appeared on TV shows including Morning Joe, Nightwatch, Nightline, CNN, Dan Rather Reports, Charlie Rose, Good Morning America and Al Jazeera, discussing his work. Bob's 18 novels reflect the same fascination with order versus anarchy and he is an incredible addition to the growing list of fascinating guests on NECRONOMICAST! Guitarist Andy Reiss joins me on the show today, the last full episode of Season 9! When I first moved to Nashville, I started going to see the Time Jumpers. They are an incredible band that plays western swing and classic country every Monday at 3rd & Lindsley. For quite a few years there, the band included Vince Gill, Paul Franklin, Ranger Doug, 3 incredible fiddle players, Dawn Sears on vocals, and Andy Reiss was always there, just calmly tackling every song, no matter how fast and crazy or slow and soulful. Usually playing elegant jazz/blues/bop licks on a Les Paul, or sometimes a 335. And while it was mind-bending to see everyone doing what they do, Andy was always a high point of any show for me. He's still doing that gig, as he has for over 20 years now. Andy started out in San Francisco, and made his way to Nashville around 1980, where he got to watch and work with a number of the original Nashville A-Team. Folks like Pete Drake, Harold Bradley, Bob Moore, Ray Edenton, and Pig Robbins. People that I know of as legends - Andy was around them from day 1 after moving here. He spent a good deal of time on the road with artists like Reba McIntyre and Slim Whitman, and has played on hundreds of records for artists like Miranda Lambert, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers and Leon Russell. He is truly one of the great guitar players in town, and has a deep knowledge of music, guitars and history. I also get to enjoy him up close and personal, since he now plays in my band The Volcano Brothers as well! Be sure to go and see Andy any time you're in Nashville.Enjoy my conversation with Andy Reiss. This season is brought to you by our main sponsors Larivée Guitars, Audeze, Izotope, FabFilter, and Chase Bliss. Today on the podcast I am joined by the legendary Stuart Trevor - founder of AllSaints. And now his latest project Stuart Trevor.I wanted to speak to Stuart because this podcast is about living before you run out of hours - and Stuart embodies this more than most. He started All Saints in the 90s and built it into a cult brand - dressing rockstars like Kings of Leon, The Who, Depeche Mode, Placebo and Destinys Child and Gwen Stefani - at its peak it had over 200 stores worldwide across 25 countries, with hundreds of millions of revenue. But he went on to sell it. Stuart had previously been scouted by two of the biggest fashion brands at the time - Paul Smith and Reiss - and ended up joining Reiss and working under David Reiss' tutelage for a while until he plucked the courage up to start his own brand. The shop has changed a lot now, it's a world away from the All Saints that Trevor poured his love and soul into - so this is a story of building what should exist, letting go, and moving on to a new passion in your next chapter. It's also a story of what happens when you seek to optimise JOY and FUN and not just productivity and efficiency. Much needed in today's world. Hosted on Acast. RUNDOWN Mitch and Hotshot Scott open Super Bowl week pleading for the rarest gift in sports: a wire-to-wire Seahawks blowout with zero anxiety attached. Instead, they confront history, betting lines, and the uncomfortable reality that Seahawks–Patriots games almost never come easy, dissecting spreads, totals, MVP odds, and prop bets surrounding Sam Darnold, Kenneth Walker, and the Seattle defense. ESPN insiders Mike Reiss and Brady Henderson join Mitch to trace the improbable parallel journeys of the Patriots and Seahawks from offseason uncertainty to Super Bowl 60. Reiss details how Mike Vrabel reshaped New England's culture around connection and accountability, while Henderson explains why Mike Macdonald's Seahawks are thriving on trust, depth, and collective buy-in rather than star power. The discussion zeroes in on Drake May's health, New England's offensive line vulnerabilities, Seattle's defensive front, and why the Seahawks are favored — while acknowledging that Patriots fans view this matchup as dangerous, not nostalgic. Mitch and Jason Puckett wrestle with the strangest part of Super Bowl 60 week: the complete absence of a believable reason the Seahawks should lose. They debate conspiracy theories, historical heartbreak, and why this matchup feels more like a gift than a grind, with comparisons to past Seattle sports collapses adding a layer of unease. Mitch reconnects with Dave Grosby to reflect on a defining week in Seattle sports history, Grosby's decades-long presence behind the microphone, and his upcoming honor from the American Parkinson Disease Association at the March 14 Magic of Hope Gala. Grosby shares a candid, deeply personal look at living with Parkinson's, the lack of a cure despite years of advocacy and fundraising led by figures like Michael J. Fox, and why continued research is critical. Peter King joins Mitch to unpack the shock of Bill Belichick not being a first-ballot Hall of Famer, offering rare insight into how Hall of Fame voting dynamics, strategic ballots, and a flawed system can produce surprising outcomes. The conversation shifts to Super Bowl 49 memories, lingering fallout inside the Seahawks locker room, and why the Seahawks–Patriots rematch echoes past championship blind spots where favorites felt inevitable — until they weren't. This week we're bringing you a series of five episodes we always point to when people ask what Second Act Stories is all about. These "Unbelievable All-Stars" all have one thing in common: they exemplify what we're looking for in an incredible Second Act Story. Whether you're a longtime listener or brand new to the show, these episodes bring together the stories that best capture the heart of the podcast: bold choices, hard-earned wisdom, and journeys that continue to surprise and inspire. Fraidy Reiss' story is among the most inspiring tales we've ever profiled on the Second Act Stories podcast. Part of the Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn, New York, Fraidy was married at the age of 19. It was an arranged marriage to a man she barely knew. He demonstrated a violent streak within a week of the wedding punching his fist through a wall and threatened to kill her. Over the next twelve years, she feared for her own life on a daily basis. But she eventually she found a way to get a college education, achieve financial independence, divorce her husband and escape with the custody of her two daughters. Today, she is the Founder and Executive Director of Unchained At Last, the only organization in the United States dedicated to ending forced and child marriage through direct services and advocacy. Want to learn more about Fraidy Reiss and Unchained At Last? Check out her TED Talk on YouTube and visit the Unchained At Last website. Fraidy is also featured in Bruce Feiler's book "Life Is In The Transitions" (which is how we first heard of her) and Hillary and Chelsea Clinton's "The Book of Gutsy Women." ******* If you enjoy Second Act Stories, please leave us a review here.
