In this heart-centered episode of Aspire to Lead, I'm joined by globally recognized speaker, educator, and author Angela Maiers to explore the movement that changed everything—#YouMatter. Angela shares the powerful story behind the origin of this global initiative and how a simple affirmation can shift mindsets, unlock potential, and ignite lasting change in students, educators, and communities. We unpack how leaders can go beyond surface-level praise to cultivate environments where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered. Angela also reveals how her workshops help people rediscover their purpose and reignite their passion for contribution, and we dive into her latest project—M is for Mattering, a science-based picture book designed to embed the language of significance in learners from the start. This episode is less of a conversation and more of a call to remember what we too often forget: that real leadership begins with seeing, hearing, and believing in the people right in front of us. Tune in, take a breath, and get ready to lead like you truly mean it. About Angela Maiers: Futurist. Innovator. Educator. Entrepreneur. Change Maker. Angela Maiers is on a relentless mission to disrupt the status quo and empower individuals everywhere to transform their own world—and the world around them. As the founder of the global movement Choose2Matter, Angela's singular focus is to help people realize their value and potential contribution to creating change, whether in their personal lives or the world at large. It is fair to say, she leaves no room unchanged. Angela's journey began in 2011 when she delivered a TEDTalk on the power of two simple words that went viral—You Matter!—which catalyzed the creation of Choose2Matter in 2014. What followed was a movement that ignited over a million children across 78,000 classrooms in 100 countries, encouraging them to launch 170 social enterprises and pass 117 laws. As one of the most influential thought leaders in education and transformative thinking, Angela is celebrated for helping businesses, organizations, and industries tackle the global $15 trillion employee engagement crisis. Her work with Fortune 500 companies such as Apple, Microsoft, IBM, and global entities like the U.S. Air Force and West Point have set new standards for creating purpose-driven cultures of motivation and inclusion. Angela's visionary approach has earned her numerous accolades, including being named one of Forbes' Top 5 Edupreneurs to Watch, one of IBM's Top 20 Global Influencers, and one of the Top 100 Women in Technology by Onalytics. She has also been recognized as one of the Top 20 Education Thought Leaders by TrustEd. Angela is the author of nine books, including Genius Matters and Classroom Habitudes, and the forthcoming M is for Mattering. This reflective episode explores how consistent, values-based leadership often outshines charisma—and how small, intentional actions can shape school culture and strengthen community trust. From the role of deep listening to the danger of performative leadership, Jason and Garth explore their own leadership experiences and challenges, and invite listeners to reflect on what truly builds credibility in their teams. With a few nods to Ted Lasso, they close out this leadership arc by emphasizing the importance of showing up—not perfectly, but consistently.Timestamps00:00 – Welcome and Context: Wrapping Up Leading by Example03:48 – Revisiting Dr. Katrina Sampson's Key Ideas06:07 – Presence and Intentionality in Leadership07:56 – Personal Leadership Stories and Reflections13:05 – Work-Life Balance and Leadership Longevity17:09 – Challenges of Compassionate, Value-Driven Leadership21:54 – The Veneer vs. the Real: What Are We Projecting?24:43 – Final Leadership Challenge: How Will You Lead This Week?Key Takeaways:Consistency builds trust more than charisma ever will.Small, repeated actions define inclusive leadership.Your presence—and how you listen—matters more than your words.Succession planning ensures your leadership outlives your role.Clarity in communication is a true act of kindness.Authenticity connects; performance distances.Beware the “veneer” of leadership—it can create disconnect.People follow leaders who are steady, not flashy.Reflection aligns your actions with your values.Trusted feedback helps uncover blind spots and fosters growth.Soundbites: "Being clear is to be kind.""What is the veneer that we have?""Keep leading the Lasso way."
Send us a textWhen it comes to understanding the terrible adversities that some kids face, like sibling sexual abuse, it is important to separate the facts from the hyperbole and the anecdotes that get used to generate fear or to gain attention. Trusted and proven sources of information are critical, and there is no more trusted source for this topic than the Sibling Aggression and Abuse Research and Advocacy Initiative (SAARA) at the Crimes against Children Research Center, a center that has been studying family violence and related topics since 1975. My guest today to share information and resources about sibling sexual abuse is Tanya Whitworth, a Research Scientist at SAARA and a generous guest and advocate. Some of you just want to be liked. Others of you are obsessed with the scoreboard. The crowd and the metrics shouldn't be your ultimate gauges of success or value. In this episode Lone Rock Leadership Cofounder Russ Hill explores where leaders seek validation and how this fundamental choice defines leadership effectiveness, sustainability, and ability to scale.• First Leaders seek validation from the crowd, prioritizing harmony and being liked• This approach creates pleasant environments but often fails to drive results• Second Leaders seek validation from scoreboard metrics, authority, and status symbols• While driving short-term results, this leadership style struggles with innovation and retention• The most effective leaders seek validation first internally, staying consistent with their principles• Trusted advisors who provide honest feedback form a second critical validation source• External validation—whether from crowds or scoreboards—is ultimately unreliable• Some people will unfairly judge you regardless of your actions or intentions• If you don't have critics, you're likely not making enough impact• Understanding your validation source requires honest self-assessmentShare this episode with a colleague, your team, or a friend. There are few in our lives that we will trust with our hearts. There are few people in our lives whose word we trust as well. It is important that we realize God can be trusted – with our desires, our concerns, our hopes and our fears. He keeps His word to us – that we are loved far greater than we can imagine, that He will protect us and has good plans for us. He will guide us and surround us with His peace – which is beyond our understanding. Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. In today's sermon, Pastor Blake continues the series "Tested and Trusted," focusing on Abraham's journey and the tests he faced. He emphasizes that a faith that is tested can be trusted, highlighting Abraham's experience of famine and his decision to leave Canaan for Egypt, symbolizing a lack of trust in God's promise. The message underscores the importance of returning to a place of worship and trust in God, reminding listeners that despite failures, God's faithfulness remains steady and the altar represents a path back to Him. Pastor Blake invites everyone, whether facing disappointment or seeking a fresh start, to embrace the hope found at the cross, which leads to restoration and dedication.

Send me a Text Message! Our Lent series has carried along a minor theme of trusting God. The major theme was Jesus' last few weeks on earth, the crucifixion, the resurrection and the ascension, but the minor theme has been the question, "Can God be trusted?" I realize most of you listening, believe in Jesus, but do you believe Jesus? Do we trust what he says enough that when he says it, we do it? Do I trust him? I think it's impossible to find the thriving value of every word that comes from the mouth of God if we only listen and learn but never lean in. So this last episode simply asks that question one more time. Do I trust Jesus?
