I was recently reading the Fall, 2023 issue of “The Science Teacher” a publication of the National Science Teaching Association. In this issue, I read the section, “Commentary” written by John Suchocki. He wrote an article entitled, “Pathways to Science Literacy.” The concepts of science and the practices of doing science are not the same. As science teachers, we should pull the rich practices of science (the ways of doing science) out front and center as a helix wrapping around the core concepts of science.
The Silent Boys with Wallance Dietz, John Suchocki & John Morand in conversation with David Eastaugh With roots in the Richmond, Virginia 80's music scene,The Silent Boys is an indie-pop band that has been silently playing and recording music for the past three decades.
The Silent Boys were once a constant part of the Richmond, Virginia alternative music scene, playing the local club circuit from the mid-‘80s until 1991. Dietz reformed the group in 1999 after the release of several Silent Boys songs on various indie record labels. Since then, he has continued to write infectious songs with a nod to the guitar pop greats of the ’80s—The Feelies, REM, The Smiths, The Go-Betweens etc. with a sound, as one writer noted, comprised of "Ultra-melodic lead guitar, strumming acoustic, snappy drums, and expressive bass-lines that propel finely crafted pop songs, brimming with lyrical optimism." Although the line-up has shifted over the years, The Silent Boys currently consist of founder and rhythm guitarist Wallace Dietz, longtime lead guitarist John Suchocki, drummer John Morand, and bassist Michael Click. Creative Habit's Podcast | Exploring Habits for Tapping Into Creative Consciousness
This weeks podcast is with John Suchocki a university professor and textbook author who shares creating an engaging multimedia learning experience. Part of John's ability to create engaging videos is interaction with his audience of students and instructors. That feedback loop provides a solid road map for his content. There is a similar feedback loop that's helpful for any artistic journey. It's one of co-creating with your audience. It's also part of the artistic challenge.
