Interview with The Jared Stout Band

Kicking the year off on a high note, Virginia's alt country powerhouse - The Jared Stout Band - is ready to introduce an emotive storyline about the working man's desire for love out of his league. Paired with a high powered music video directed and produced by Jamie Neighbors of Boss Motion Pictures, they follow a night in the life of a blue collar worker who meets the girl of his dreams at a bar. The only problem? She might be way out of his league. His inner monologue pleads for the price of her love as he questions whether or not he is enough for her. A song about love, lust and leaving, the music video portrays a woman from a higher class as she ventures into a small town bar; out of place with her surroundings, she finds her attention fixed on the band that is playing, while the band's lead singer finds his full attention fixed on her.   “There's price tags on your lovin, Like your heart is made of gold / Or is it something quick your wantin, Just a night to hold” ~ “Cost”   Latching eyes from across the room, the singer builds up the courage to ask the girl to dance and the two find a connection stronger than anyone could have expected. Now wondering, “What's the cost of your kiss?”, the unsuspecting couple dances in the bar as everything fades away. Caught up in the moment, they kiss and everything fades to black. Transparent about the fact that they come from two different classes, we witness curiosity, courage and the pursuit of a genuine connection despite any societal limitations.   Set to play Virginia's nationally-renowned Floyd Fest in 2023, The Jared Stout Band is well-positioned for the festival circuit. Delivering a dynamically unforgettable LIVE performance, their show has been coined as something that you definitely don't want to miss. Having previously opened for notable artists like Blues Traveler, Phil Vassar, 38 Special, Cassadee Pope and Eric Paslay, their talents are praised by some of the biggest artists in Country music. Their work has received high praises from notable outlets like Celebmix, Broadway World and Hometown Country Music. Now back with a song to be applied to a vast array of life experience, their new track has a little something for everyone who is ready to turn their luck around. https://www.thejaredstoutband.com

    Exclusive Interview With Bright Brown

Brooklyn-based singer, Chapman Stick player, and multi-instrumentalist Alex Nahas aka Bright Brown confronts our collective existentialism in his hypnotizing new hit “Aimless”. Delivering reflective vocals and an addictive instrumental loop, “Aimless” questions our continued desire to set lofty goals despite knowing that there's only so much that we can control. The pandemic proved that life is capable of throwing us unpredictable turns in events, making it that much harder to plan and devise. So instead of planning ahead, “Aimless” is about living in the moment and the beauty of being present during uncertainty as we continue to take life one fickle day at a time. Ironically, the first time Nahas performed “Aimless” was a few days before everything shut down for COVID. At the time, the song was simply an improvisation, but as time went on, the lyrics took on a whole new meaning. Aimless features Nahas singing and playing the rarely heard Chapman Stick, Eddie Avakian on drums, Jamie Muhoberac on keyboards, and Ava Nahas on percussion. As his music has evolved over time, so have his other creative endeavors. Recently, his latest EP offered fans a beautifully illustrated lyric book, where he reflected in a post-2020 world through his dark but hopeful lens. Nahas delivers musical influence from artists like Peter Gabriel, Talk Talk, David Bowie and Elvis Costello - all being one of a kind musicians who shoehorned unorthodox approaches into digestible pop music. Thoughtful and reflective, with a knack for rendering outside-world concerns in the landscape of the personal, Bright Brown continues to venture into new frontiers with each successive song. https://www.brightbrownny.com/ Spotify

I got the chance to speak with Singer/Songwritter Carrie Baxter. Carrie who now lives in London provided amazing details on how her newest single "YOU" was created.  Speaking on the track, Carrie explains; "If I could do an alternate version of every track I would, specifically just me and a pianist (my favourite instrument) There's something about the romance of this song and it needing a piano on this version. The space I have to sing and the words being allowed to breath is the stuff I live for. The live video, accompanying the release, is a stunning one-take visual illumination of the raw talent of Carrie. Recorded totally live, with absolutely zero tweaks to the audio or visual, it is fair to say the video is an honest reflection of this burgeoning artist's unique vocals, immense potential and a humble offering of what a Carrie Baxter live show would offer. Speaking on the video, Carrie states; “I love singing live, ultimately it's what I do it for. I usually try to stick to minimal takes in the studio at all times but this time, luckily or unluckily I was going through a pretty tough time when we recorded this so I trusted myself enough to deliver raw emotion in one take.” www.carriebaxtermusic.com www.itsezbreezy.com

Stepping back for a moment of reflection, Kyle Davis realizes now, perhaps more than ever, that music can be a vehicle for change. No stranger to success, his music has received attention from Sony Records and Phil Ramone via Don Dixon, four stars from Rolling Stone and a cover feature in Billboard Magazine calling him “one of the best unsigned artists.” In addition, Davis has shared the stage with the likes of Bob Dylan, John Mayer, Shawn Colvin, The Wallflowers and Sheryl Crow. While Davis has received extensive accolades over the course of his career, Make it Count is about more than simply making music. Woven together with the wisdom of life’s profound experiences, Make it Count offers a timeless reflection encouraging listeners to make the most of the time that they have. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCUZ1GMyxVk&feature=emb_title   Created by Mikan Media, the music video for the title track, “Make it Count,” expresses Davis’s amazement at our inability to affect time’s linear motion. Struck by nostalgia upon looking at an old photograph, the video features Davis driving by the house where he grew up, speaking to the creases in each of our timelines while paying homage to Davis’s personal history; the song lyrics note how his family disintegrated a little after they moved and also serves as a place for Davis to say he misses his Dad - something he needed. Illustrating shared human experiences, the music video also features a few real stories including one of grief through the eyes of a woman looking upward in a church, holding a picture of her brother who took his life; it also tells of  rebirth and life through the eyes of a young mother with her child. Notably, the song expresses how we get many chances but each one only once.   Produced by Scott Lane and Stewart Myers, Make It Count features Daniel Clark on organ, piano, and whirly, Charles Authur on mandolin, pedal and steel, Carter Gravatt [Carbon Leaf] on mandolin, acoustic, pedal steel, Mike Durham and Scott Lane playing electric guitars, as well as drummers, John O’Reilly and Pinson Chanselle, and Stewart Myers and Scott Lane on bass, as well as backing vocalists Kenneka Cook and Scott Lane.   Davis began recording in his early 20s, spawning a string of albums -- Kyle Davis, Waiting For You, Raising Heroes, Don’t Tell the World, and River City Gang -- which harnessed national attention and effectively expressed a keen sense of melody, infectious energy and hooks that sank in quickly and refused to let go. These days, Davis is more eager than ever to rekindle his career, and remains inspired by his love of music and a desire to connect with others.

While “I Walked Over the Edge” is a softer, more mellow track that gives the feeling of walking in the woods on a fall day, “Midnight Symphony” has a hopeful, contagious energy, the kind of tune you’d want to listen to in the car with your windows down.   Both singles are part of Matthew’s debut album, “Love & Grief.”

Empathy pop band HOAX released the second single off their narrative-driven concept album, b?: “Unamerican Dream”, a not often talked about perspective on the immigrant story in America. Both Michael Raj and Frantz Cesar of HOAX are first-generation Americans with immigrant parents who came to the U.S. seeking a new life. Having been close to the subject, HOAX will be donating 50% of royalties from “Unamerican Dream” to KIND (Kids In Need of Defense), an organization that helps immigrant children who entered the U.S. alone find a safe haven.   HOAX’s debut album, b?, is a concept album that  follows the narratives of 14 characters that have been thrown together in the aftermath of an Armageddon - one character for each full-length track on the album. Each song is written from the point of view of a character who explores the abstract concepts of the essence of “BEING” - an evident obsession of both the characters in the story and the band members themselves. The dichotomy of BEING vs. DOING is highlighted through careful lyrical content on the album.

British composer and electronic producer Circles And Ellipses releases “Burn:Cycle Reworks” via Here & Now Recordings; a follow-up EP to the original soundtrack of the 1994 video game Burn:Cycle, the first ever video game soundtrack to feature orchestral music, consisting of four reimagined electronic compositions. Originally composed and produced by both Chris Whitten and BAFTA-nominated British film score composer, conductor, producer and musician Simon Boswell in the early ‘90s for the adventure video-game title published by Philips Interactive Media, Chris Whitten now returns as Circles And Ellipses to share reworks of this classic game soundtrack. Whitten’s musical journey has been a vast and impressive one so far, from producing classic ‘80s hit-singles such as "What I Am"by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians (which currently boasts 10 million views on YouTube alone), to providing drums for "The Whole of the Moon"by The Waterboys and the legendary Sir Paul McCartney’s 1989 album“Flowers In The Dirt”and joining iconic British rock band Dire Straits on their final world tour from 1991-1992 and once again during their 2017 reunion tour. Chris Whitten is also widely recognised for composing original scores for top media companies, including BBC and Discovery Channel. Circles And Ellipses has just done a Mix for NTS Radio’s Tim Noakes’ ‘Synth Hero Show’ whose previous guests include film composer Clint Mansell, dance duo Orbital, Stranger Things composer Kyle Dixon, and Paul White from R&S Records. Noakes has described Whitten as“cult drum God”. Chris Whitten was born in Wimbledon, just outside London and now lives in the west of England, near Bath and Glastonbury. With a burning desire to pursue a musical career, Whitten left home at the early age of just 16 to study jazz and classical composition at The City Of Leeds College Of Music, although his musical diploma would be cut short in 1979 after picking up more local gigs and eventually embarking on a tour with seminal British jazz-fusion guitarist Gary Boyle. In the early 1980s, producer and guitarist Simon Boswell invited Whitten to perform drums on an album session in Rome. On returning to London, Whitten would contribute to many various styled projects and bands including punk/ funk band Out fronted by local fashion icon and journalist Alix Sharkey, repeated RCA Studio Sessions in Rome, and working as drummer and arranger on several hit albums for celebrated Italian musicians such as Francesco De Gregori, Gianni Morandiand Riccardo Cocciante, collaborating on Cocciante’s 10th studio album with orchestral arranger Paul Buckmaster(Elton John, Miles Davis). Former bandmate Karl Wallinger had since joined Scottish-Irish folk rock band The Waterboys, and in 1984, Whitten would take up drum duties.Chris Whitten performed drums on the hit single “The Whole Of The Moon”, which is still regarded as The Waterboys’“finest hour and signature recording”. Whitten then gained a shining reputation as a prolific freelance studio drummer for artists such as Swing Out Sister and Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders). Co-producer of the original “Burn:Cycle Soundtrack”Simon Boswell currently holds more than 90 credits in film and TV composition, including acclaimed classics such as Phenomena(1985), Santa Sangre(1989), A Midsummer Night’s Dream(1999)and many more. Boswell's record productions from the 1980’s have influenced many other contemporary musicians, notably "Block Rockin' Beats"by UK electronic act The Chemical Brothers. Whitten sees himself as a drummer with a passion for synthesizers. Although he loves the synth sounds of 90’s techno and electronica, Whitten also takes influences from more classic sounds such as the work of Herbie Hancock, Jan Garbarek and Eberhard Weber. As for his electronica inspirations, Whitten has drawn influence from the likes of minimal techno artist Speedy J, early Detroit techno from 69(Carl Craig) and Kenny Larkin, as well UK’s Kirk DeGiorgio and contemporary electronic producer Lone. Whitten’s work as Circles And Ellipses for the “Burn:Cycle Reworks” EP can best be compared to minimal techno maestros such as Stephan Bodzin and Max Cooper.

While all three members of the group have always been surrounded by music in their homes, it was in London that they discovered their mutual passion for experimenting with sound and writing the infectious electronic-infused music that they are known for today. Lumen Craft are the offspring of a city as warm as their music and prismatic as their performances, and the cosmopolitan energy that they exude can be traced back to the city of lights and sounds that nurtured them.   Although Lumen Craft draw from an eclectic mix of sources when it comes to inspiration, such as Little Dragon, SBTRKT, James Blake, alt-J, Four Tet, Flying Lotus and many more, what their influences hold in common is a pop optimism, an experimental edge and a glittering quirkiness. When it comes to their own sound, Lumen Craft could be compared to soulful indie heroes like Bob Moses, Metronomy and Electric Guest.   "Stranger" draws the listener in with a funky bassline and sexy guitar solos, preparing us for vocalist John Evans' bluesy crooning. Retro-inspired synth sounds add an undoubtable quirkiness to the track's sensual groove, while crisp beats and bass cuts make sure "Stranger" could resonate with any modern audience. The piece is a dance-floor triumph, oozing all the right parts of the 70's and 80's, while effortlessly staying slick and fresh.   On their brand new single, "Stranger", Lumen Craft explain, "It's an invitation to the unknown, a guide to unexplored lands. Commenting on the latest single,AVEC states, "I think the song 'Under Water' is the most honest one I've ever written so far. The line "breathing underwater" perfectly describes the pain and the struggle of being honest with yourself and being honest with everybody else. It hurts, and you might hurt people by being honest, but it's the only way to keep on going; to get through whatever you're dealing with - be honest, stay honest and be true to yourself, otherwise those feelings and thoughts will eat up your mind!" Speaking on the music video, she adds,"When I first saw the video for 'Under Water' - filled with so many emotions and despair, I got goosebumps all over my body, because it just moved me so much, I can't even describe it. Hailing from the unassuming town of Cheltenham, Indie-pop trio CAEZAR released their brand new single 'Take Me There' on 16th November, taken off their much-anticipated debut EP'HAIL!'  released via RG Records on 30th November. This new single is the last cut taken from their upcoming EP and follows on from singles 'Somewhere New',which was aired as a BBC Introducingexclusive, CAEZAR's previous single, 'Waiting', which was featured on popular UK show ITV This Morning and 'Hold On', whichwas premiered by CLASH Magazine. Playing alongside giant names such as Hozier, James Bay and Jack Garrett, CAEZARcan really hold their own in the scene and have had the pleasure of playing at the award-winning independent Barn on the Farm Festivalas well as being featured on the acclaimed radio platform BBC Music Introducing. The 'HAIL!' EP boasts mastering by mastering engineer Stuart Hawkes(Amy Winehouse, Clean Bandit, Rudimental) and produced by Justin Broad(Jessie J, Emeli Sandé, Izzy Bizu, Corinne Bailey Rae). The two founding members of CAEZAR, Chris Quigley and Rich Gillsdecided to take their passion for music to the next level when the pair found themselves both suffering from sports injuries that meant they would no longer be able to play rugby for their local club. It was under the lights of the rugby pitch where the two ex-players decided that they would take their previously hidden musical talents to the stage. When Zoe joined the band in 2017, the trio really found their niche. Her soft synths and sweet-as-honey backing vocals helped build on the unique crossover of pop, indie and rock elements that make up the band's special sound. CAEZAR's new single 'Take Me There'is an indie-pop ballad with a difference; featuring soaring harmonies from both Chris and Zoe in the infectious chorus, the piece is unabashedly vulnerable and simultaneously uplifting. A beautifully introspective track, the lyrics ask something that many can relate to, "Trust me I can fight / These demons inside", speaking to the struggle we all face with our inner selves. Pairing this poignant and hopeful message with CAEZAR's signature sound that combines skillfully-played live instruments and expertly produced electronic beats with strong, melodic lead vocals, the band manages to create something undeniably unique, that will certainly touch any that hear it.   On their new single release, CAEZARcomment, "A recurring theme throughout this EP is 'movement'. Whether it's excitement, remorse or anticipation - Take Me There is the final expression of this movement - the longing for escape. It's easy to become faded by the weight of day-to-day life, so we wanted to write about the inspiration and hope of striving for something better. The vocal samples and irregular dream beat provides a haunting melody which acts as the perfect crescendo for this journey and for this EP." Hail! EP:1. Waiting 2. Hold On 3. Somewhere New 4. Canadian indie-rockers Tokyo Police Clubhave released their first album in four years, 'TPC' viaDine Alone Records. The celebrated Canadian outfit has garnered support from a myriad of tastemaker publications such as Pitchfork, Billboard, Huffington Post, NPR, Noisey, Clash Music, Paste Magazine and Consequence of Soundas well as BBC Radio 1presenter Zane Lowe,BBC Radio 1's Phil Taggart and Alice Levine, BBC Radio 6's Steve Lamacq andShaun Keaveny and The Late Show with David Letterman. On top of this, the quartet has played hundreds of venues, including massively acclaimed festivals Glastonbury Festival, Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bumbershoot, Reading and Leeds Festival, Roskilde Festival, Rock am Ring, and Bonnaroo. In 2012, the band joined indie legends Foster the Peopleon the North American portion of their album tour along with songstress Kimbra. Tokyo Police Club wrote their brand new album, 'TPC', in a beautiful old church in rural Ontario, staying together and working on the songs while bonding in the countryside. When the songs were done, the band went out to Los Angeles and recorded them up in the California sunshine with Rob Schnapf, who also produced Tokyo Police Club's 2010 LP 'Champ', as well as many other seminal music releases, including albums by Elliot Smith, The Vines, FIDLAR and Beck. Tokyo Police Club have come back with a renewed energy for 'TPC', pulsing with equal parts attitude and sensitivity. From anthemic numbers like 'DLTFWYH'and 'Hercules'to honest self-reflections in 'Simple Dude' and the poignant 'One Of These Days', this band is showcasing its maturity and undeniable skill like never before, presenting a mature album that is honest, raw and fun its core. With a renewed energy and a can-do attitude, Tokyo Police Club showcase the new skin they're in with 'TPC'. The brand new video release for 'Simple Dude'hits the nail on the head when it comes to the soul-searching nature of Tokyo Police Club's new album; created using film negatives shot by bassist and vocalist Dave Monks during the recording of the new album, lyrics and imagery were then scratched directly into the film negatives and then animated by talented videographer Anne Douris. The result is a simple yet powerful series of visuals tinged with nostalgia, centred on feelings of intimacy and closeness, which we all need and sometimes long for; "My hands, your hands, I've been feeling lonely. Your touch, my touch, I feel the rush. And I've been waiting for it!" The release of Tokyo Police Club's'TPC' album will mark an important moment for this group of musicians, as it almost never came to fruition. Tokyo Police Club drummer Greg Alsop explains, "The feeling that we were so close to breaking up gave us the freedom to enjoy each other more, to enjoy making music together ... If we're not doing it for the sake of being a successful band, but just trying to make an album we're happy with, it takes the pressure off. The expectation was just that we'd do something that would make us happy." In the midst of a near-disbanding, David Monksmanaged to convince the rest of the band that they should not go out without a fight, and not without taking the time to write new music and, importantly, to really enjoy the process. "I think there's a lot more optimism and a lot less confusion now," says Monks. "That's why we called the record 'TPC'. It was a whole process of looking at the band and deciding what it is. There's an excitement and optimism. Let's just let it exist."
