#98 Kahmeela Adams Ever have a friend who is relentless about you meeting a person they know. You hear, "Oh! You don't know her/him? You have to! You two are so much alike!" You then dismiss said friend, because you have heard it before, and it really doesn't turn out to be true. Sometimes... it does, enter Kahmeela Adams. Kahmeela and I met for coffee after a friend's urging, and the time flew. We share a lot of the same loves including Comic Cons, and (I say proudly), are a bit quirky, funny, and a bit odd. I like that about us. Much like myself, Kahmeela is a busy woman who likes to have her hands in a lot of fun activities. She has not one, but four podcasts in Pittsburgh! Rugged Angel , Down To Watch, Psych Babble, and ReVisiting Sunnydale where her and her long time friend talk about their love of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Kahmeela has also produced for the past 9 years the 48 Hour Film Project in Pittsburgh. This is something I really wanted to chat with her about. I have always heard of the project, but never really delved into the details with anyone before. It seemed like something that just passed on my radar, but never really landed. I chat with Kahmeela about what all goes into producing the event, even though this will be her last year in that role. What do you need to get started? Do you have to have your own crew? Can I film on my phone? What prompts do you get, if any to work with? How long do you have to create it? Will it ever be shown in a theater to anyone? We answer all of these questions. We also chat about podcasting, and what new folks looking to get into it can expect to find once you start one for yourself. It isn't as easy as it seems. ;P Boardgames, Pittsburgh talk, our love of Storm Large and more happen in this awesome conversation. Wanna be a part of a LIVE game show!? On January 5th, you can! Early Bird tickets are now up for "Marta Match- A throwback of The Match Game" at City Theatre on January 5th! YOU could be chosen as a contestant to win big prizes. To mark the 200th episode of You Can't Handle the Truth — yes, really, we've done 200! — Sean and Aaron put out the film-nerd Batsignal and recruited movie experts Robin Hitchcock (@hitchdied) and Kahmeela Adams (@the_ruggedangel). The question: What is the best single year in film history? Four great nominees lead to a unanimous — and surprising — choice. Listen and help us celebrate this major milestone!
You all are in store for a treat this week folks. We've got 2 features in one episode! Up first, we are reviewing 2 short films from indie filmmaker, Nathan Suher of iM Film Filmworks (Scary Little Fuckers & Next/Door). Then we are joined by the City Producer for Pittsburgh's 48 Hour Film Project, Kahmeela Adams, who will break down this gathering of the 'burgh's best and brightest in an epic contest that tests a filmmaker's mettle; to make a short film from start to finish in 48 hours. It's a jam packed episode that you definitely do not want to miss.
