In this episode of "Normal World," Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela kick things off with unusual headlines, from a nun in Ohio celebrating her 105th birthday on the golf course to a Texas man rescuing a newborn abandoned in a dumpster. The crew then reacts to a bizarre Homeland Security video that feels more like a Saturday morning cartoon than a government warning, before joking their way through fashion trends, forgotten shows, and the curious careers of Billy Zane, Bruce Campbell, and Alec Baldwin. The conversation shifts to Sean Penn's history of fights, Jude Law's awkward defense at the Oscars, and the infamous Will Smith slap. From there, they reminisce about '90s sitcoms, the odd rise and fall of TV formats, and the cultural status of pinky rings, Gucci loafers, and Louis Vuitton luggage. International politics enter the mix with Britain's recognition of Palestine and the spectacle of protest culture, which the hosts approach with sharp skepticism. Later, they highlight Corey Feldman's run on Dancing with the Stars, his Michael Jackson-inspired choreography, and his enduring pop culture mystique. The panel then examines Donald Trump and RFK Jr.'s warnings about Tylenol, questions surrounding autism, and the unintended consequences of health debates. The show closes with Gary Busey's probation for misconduct at a convention, his unpredictable career from Buddy Holly to Pet Judge, and a final detour into the surprising evolution of Anthony Michael Hall. Hi Everyone, hope you're having a wonderful Tuesday! This week's guest is my Pacific Northwest buddy and star of Napoleon Dynamite, Jon Heder! If you haven't seen Napoleon Dynamite (I don't know how that's possible), please go out and watch it RIGHT NOW and then come back for this interview. It was so much fun to chat with Jon and hear the story behind how he created such an iconic character. We talk about where he learned to dance, how he and the director transformed the story from a student film into a massive hit and what it was like managing such an insane level of overnight fame. It's been quite awhile since that movie came out and the truth is, Jon is so much more than that character. He is a dad, he's a big outdoors guy and he's still a phenomenal actor! He is starring in the new film Waltzing With Brando, alongside Billy Zane, and we talk about his experience learning more about Marlon Brando, shooting in Tahiti and his personal policy on nudity on camera. This is exactly the conversation you'd expect from a guy like Jon— it's absurd, goofy and earnest all at the same time. Be sure to stick around for the Hindsight, where my producer Jeph and I talk about the interview over a bowl of tots! n this episode of the Movies In Focus podcast, writer-director Bill Fishman talks about his sun-soaked comedy Waltzing With Brando - the true story of Marlon Brando's quest to build an eco-paradise in Tahiti, brilliantly brought to life by Billy Zane's note-perfect and layered performance. Fishman, known for celebrating quirky real-life tales, discusses how Waltzing With Brando sidesteps weighty drama in favour of breezy high jinks and zesty energy, with Jon Heder playing the straight man as Bernard Judge, Brando's bewildered architect. Together, they recreate iconic Brando moments in a relaxed, 'holiday of a film' that feels as playful and unpredictable as its subject. Fishman also reminisces about working with Monkee, Michael Nesmith on the '80s cult classic Tapeheads and how working with 'The Nez' shaped his approach to storytelling. This conversation is a must for anyone fascinated by Brando, behind-the-scenes tales, and the pure enjoyment of an unhurried cinematic romp. Read the Movies In Focus review of Waltzing With Brando

Historian Kevin Impellizeri shares a story of a video game controversy to his friends: Kate Lynch and Andy Hunter. For our first episode coming off Scandalous Games Summer, we stick around the world of movies and take a closer look at Uwe Boll's 2007 film Postal, Uwe's raunchy, satirical comedy adaptation of Running with Scissors' only franchise. This time, we look at its development, production, and its very, very poor box office showing. Topics discussed include: Kevin bravely doesn't bother Running with Scissors on social media, Uwe Boll vs. Billy Zane, and which doomed Postal: political correctness or a director who's box office poison? Uwe Boll vs. Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3M_wGfYewo.Check out Uwe Boll's demise in Postal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sq0G9DPatWwFor more on the history of the Postal movie relative to the games, check out Brock Wilbur and Nathan Rabin, Postal (Boss Fight Books, 2020): https://bossfightbooks.com/products/postal-by-brock-wilbur-nathan-rabin. For a brief history on the term "going postal," see: Aaron Gordon, "The Legacy of ‘Going Postal,'"Vice, https://www.vice.com/en/article/the-legacy-of-going-postal/More info, including show notes and sources at http://scandalousgamespodcast.wordpress.com.

This podcast includes recordings from the Australian Phantom weekend, including the video from Lauren Marshall, who spoke beautifully at the 2025 LFMBEC dinner. Billy Zane completed many Q&As over the two weeks he was in Australia. He did Q&As at Sydney and Perth Supanova as well as other events at theaters located in Sydney and Melbourne in between the two weekends. Thanks must go to those fans who helped us with these recordings; unfortunately, we at Chronicle Chamber were unable to attend. Please note, these recordings were made onsite on location, so the quality in spots is questionable. Please bear with it, as the content is great. As you will find out when you listen to and/or watch this podcast, Lauren has an amazing story, and Billy Zane does indeed have a soft spot for the Phantom. It is almost like every second answer he gave to a question came back to the Phantom somehow. In the Perth Q&A at Supanova, he talked about how he would love to complete a passing of the Phantom mantle to the next actor in a TV show or movie when it happens. We would also like to see that. You?If you know of other Phantom creators attending events around the world, please also contact us. We would love to promote these events on our platforms. Send us a textRemember the 90s, when superhero movies were still figuring out what they wanted to be? Before the sleek, unified vision of X-Men or the cultural juggernaut of the MCU, there was "The Phantom" (1996) – a fascinating relic that demonstrates exactly why superhero cinema needed a complete overhaul. In our latest episode, we venture deep into the jungle of Bengala with Billy Zane's purple-spandexed hero as he pursues magical skulls, fights pirates, and somehow manages to keep a straight face while doing it all. The Phantom originated in comic strips back in 1936 – predating Superman and Batman – as the first true costumed hero. But what works on the newspaper page doesn't always translate to the big screen, and this film struggles mightily with that translation.Treat Williams steals every scene as villain Xander Drax, delivering deliciously campy line readings and creative murder methods (microscope eye-stabbing, anyone?) that suggest he understood exactly what kind of movie this should have been. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast – including a young Catherine Zeta-Jones – seems trapped in a more serious adventure that never quite takes flight. We analyze the film's curious place in superhero movie evolution, sitting awkwardly between the camp of Batman Forever and the more grounded approach that would soon revolutionize the genre. The Phantom provides an unintentionally hilarious time capsule of mid-90s filmmaking choices, from its Indiana Jones aspirations to its baffling mythology involving skull lasers and a wolf that can apparently communicate with horses. What went wrong? What occasional moments work? And why can't we stop talking about that purple costume? Listen as we unpack this bizarre superhero curiosity that reminds us how far the genre has come.Written lovingly with AIBe our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT
