Perhaps Rick and Morty is a good enough show to overcome the bittersweet Szechuan rage of it's fans. Maybe Swifties do swiftly make some of us reconsider listening to any pop star. This week, the roster is OG-heavy as Patrick, Dave, and PC Tunney say goodbye to one of the first series they began watching in the early days of BWN. Umbrella Academy has been a staple of BWN for four tremendous seasons, and this week, the guys reach the end of the road as they review the series finale. The Episode polarized many fans. Some loved the finale; others, not so much. Here on the Bandwagon, the guys were split as well. Who loved it? Who did not? You will need to tune in to find out. A quick visit to the Trailer Park looks at another movie warning of the dangers of AI, the conclusion of the Venom trilogy, and a reboot of Salem's Lot that looks like it could be a worthy successor to the epic 70's mini-series. The PS5 gets an upgrade, but do you need to get one? All that plus the guys say goodbye and pay their respects to one of the most beloved actors and voices in Nerdom, James Earl Jones.@AttitudeAgg@WrestlngRealist@itsReyCash@PCTunney@TheMindlessPod@ChairshotMedia@itsmedpp@ViolentAesop@therealcplatt@BandwagonNerdsAbout Bandwagon NerdsJoin Patrick O'Dowd, David Ungar, PC Tunney, Rey Cash, and DPP as they keep everyone up on all things nerd, and maybe add some new nerds along the way. BWN returns this week just in time for the biggest two-week stretch in Nerdom in a very long time. This week saw the season finales of The Boys & The Acolyte. While we have come to expect the unexpected with The Boys, the Season 4 Finale pulled the rug out from everyone with one of the more shocking closing sequences we have seen in a while. Where this leaves us for the final season is anyone's guess, but the guys try to make sense of it here. Meanwhile, Dave & Tunney touch on the season finale of the much-maligned The Acolyte. Did anything come out of the finale to redeem the series or, more importantly, warrant Disney giving it a second season? The final trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine dropped this week as the biggest movie of the summer comes our way this Friday. The guys discuss the final trailer and speculate as to how much of a gate Deadpool & Wolverine might draw. All that plus more layoffs at Warner Brothers, disappointing news for the Halo franchise, and with San Diego Comic-Con also happening this week, is Marvel poised to bring back some familiar faces to herald in the next wave of Avengers movies? @AttitudeAgg@itsReyCash@PCTunney@TheMindlessPod@ChairshotMedia@itsmedpp@ViolentAesop@BandwagonNerdsAbout Bandwagon NerdsJoin Patrick O'Dowd, David Ungar, PC Tunney, Rey Cash, and DPP as they keep everyone up on all things nerd, and maybe add some new nerds along the way. Simon Pegg is an actor and screenwriter who became a household name after appearing in two of Hollywood's most successful film franchises – Mission: Impossible and Star Trek. He also won many fans for co-creating the so-called Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy of films – Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and the World's End. Simon was born in Gloucester and studied theatre, film and television at the University of Bristol. As a student he started performing stand-up routines with his pet goldfish called Roger who was a Marxist poet – albeit a silent one. Simon first appeared on television in the mid-1990s and made a name for himself by co-creating the sitcom Spaced with the actor Jessica Hynes and the director Edgar Wright. He is one of the few performers to have achieved what Radio Times calls the “Holy Grail of Nerdom” – playing roles in Doctor Who, Star Trek – as Montgomery ‘Scotty' Scott – and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He also co-wrote the screenplay for Star Trek Beyond. In 2006 Simon played the British technician Benji Dunn in Mission: Impossible III and has appeared in every Mission: Impossible film since. With three or four weeks to go until the 3.20 release, GGG has given us an announcement that they will be announcing some changes (in the form of Manifestos) which will come before the announcement of 3.20 where they will announce many more things. Welcome to the Love Where You Are podcast! In today's episode I am joined with Drew Dixon. Drew is the co-founder of Love Thy Nerd, a ministry that offers a better way to share the love of Jesus to nerds and nerd culture. Let's face it: the digital age has changed the way we parent. So, instead of ignoring what your children are playing or removing the videogames altogether, Love Thy Nerd offers an opportunity for parents to understand their children and the kinds of games they are playing. Drew wrote a book titled "Know Thy Gamer" to discuss important movements in the gaming world. He guides parents to a better understanding on the topic through a Christian lens. In this episode, Somer and Drew Dixon discuss: common myths related to video games benefits of gaming and the often missed opportunity for parents and churches to engage and share the love of Jesus with gamer culture Let's equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to face this digital age of parenting. Thank you for being here today. Now, let's dive into the conversation! Connect with Drew at lovethynerd.com and grab a copy of his new release HERE! Resources for researching video games: commonsensemedia.org Esrb.org Twitch FAVORITE TAKE-AWAYS: -Common myths about video games Video games are going to make our kids violent Video games are going to turn my kid into a mindless zombie i.e. addiction Love Thy Nerd exists to be the love of Jesus to gamers and their culture. 220 million Americans play video games regularly. The church has an opportunity for mission and connection with nerd culture. -If your child is identifying themself as a “nerd” or a “gamer”, the best thing you can do as a parent is be curious about that - and genuinely so. -If we keep love at the center, that guides everything else that we do -Everything in our culture is designed to ‘get its hooks into us'. -Video game addiction is a very small subset of the gaming population, less than 1% -Video games engage our brain in a way that's deeper than a book or movie because the player gets to have input. -Our kids experience a sense of accomplishment in gaming. We do not want to diminish their accomplishments even if it doesn't seem special to us. REMEMBER: God is the author or play and fun. These days games do bring people together. Boredom is your friend as a parent - we need to let go of this idea that our kids constantly need something to do. Mindset: "I want to learn about you because you are my child and I love you - I want to know what makes you tick, without judgment." CONNECT with Somer!
