DTTB Ep.66 - George StroumboulopoulosPunk Rock & PoliticsOne of the people I wanted to interview while planning this podcast series, without question was Strombo. This is another episode where I get to interview a remarkable interviewer. Like Alan Cross Official, or CFNY founder David Marsden. All of whom, shared some amazing stories in this series.George and I talked about 102.1 The Edge in this episode. He was colleagues with some of my mentors there, including the late Martin Streek Tribute. In fact the last time I saw George in person was at the Opera House for a celebration in honour of Martin. We also discussed the Danko Jones / Monster Truck issue, which I weighed in on, based on an episode done with Jon Harvey. This led in to an important chat about where we are in North American in 2022. Which only left me thinking, are politics in George's future? In an official capacity? With George out on the West Coast, I thought we were talking at 6pm PT, so I didn't even write out questions or set up the light I usually use for video podcasts. But with George, I'm kind of glad we just hit record and go.
Bob shared an office with Pete Walker for nearly 4 years at Durham Radio. Pete has been the Music Director for what is essentially Canada's #1 Country Radio station for 24 years. Darryl Spring is passionate about rock radio. Although it started out with an attraction for what was coming out of the club shows of then CFNY-FM 102, Darryl knew radio was his future. From Loyalist College, to Q92 in Timmins, to Corus Radio in Toronto and Hamilton. His next two stops included Kingston and Ottawa, where there was great success, and some unfortunately timed circumstances. In this episode you will hear about all the fun that went on at these stations. And just like our episode with Bob Willette, Darryl was also told that the golden era of Edge 102 was before he arrived. You will also hear us reminisce about the late Martin Streek and Bobby Gale; both huge music fans. Darryl is now hosting the hit podcast "Darryl Talks To Bands" which is on all your favourite audio distribution centres. There's also more on the episode page! Thanks also to the people who make this show possible every week including:PromosuiteJustin Dove at Core Image StudiosMegatrax
