Break out the Jordache jeans and slap bracelets—we're firing up the Past Tens DeLorean and crash-landing straight into October 4th, 1986. Hosts Dave and Adam are your snarky tour guides through the Billboard Top 10, a week where Lionel Richie was literally defying gravity, Tina Turner was calling out “Typical Males” (present company excluded… maybe), and Run-DMC teamed up with Aerosmith to smash a wall and music history all at once. Adam admits to surviving a Lionel Richie concert back in the day (dancing on the ceiling, not covered by health insurance), we deep-dive Janet Jackson's pop domination, and we wonder aloud if Carl Anderson and Gloria Loring's “Friends and Lovers” was written for a daytime soap opera—or by one. Plus, there's a Juno Awards trivia smackdown, some righteous Canadian music history, and our patented “swap-a-song” gimmick. It's nostalgia, pop-culture snark, and synthesizer-drenched storytelling—Past Tens style.

The trio is back! After a much-needed summer hiatus, Denny, Amanda (the wife), and Jams (the ex-wife) reunite with surprising news - their download numbers actually increased during their absence. But the real drama unfolds as they dive into the explosive fight between Denny and Jams that occurred during their break. What begins as casual catching-up quickly transforms into a fascinating exploration of how we apologize - or more accurately, how we fail at apologizing. Using Google's five elements of an effective apology as a framework, the hosts hilariously dissect their own shortcomings when it comes to admitting fault. Denny struggles with naming specific offenses and tends toward conditional apologies. Jams freely admits she refuses to acknowledge wrongdoing when apologizing to her fiance'. Amanda, perhaps the most emotionally intelligent of the three, watches the chaos unfold with knowing eyes. The conversation reveals universal truths about human relationships - how we experience the same events differently, our resistance to taking full responsibility, and the healing power of a genuine "I'm sorry." Between fits of laughter and moments of surprising vulnerability, the hosts demonstrate why their chemistry has kept listeners coming back for six years and nearly 300 episodes. The episode shifts into their signature "Relationship Advice with Ams and Jams" segment, where they tackle questions about open marriages, anniversary activities, and balancing gaming with quality time. They also address Brayden's absence from the podcast, leaving the door open for his potential return.Listen in for a masterclass in relationship dynamics that's equal parts hilarious and insightful. And remember - as they remind us - sometimes the hardest words to say are "I was wrong." Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Famed Chef Jonathan Waxman came to Wine Talks through a mutual friend who we lost last year to cancer; Melvin Masters was a one-of-a-kind character in the wine trade and Jonathans partner in the famed Jams Restaruarant. On a recent trip to Nashville, Tennessee, I insisted that the group I was with follow me to Roberts Western (most probably the last true country bar in Nashville), for a fried bologna sandwich. They looked at me crosseyed and followed blindly. You see, we had just finished dinner and everyone had overeaten and were tired. But I knew if I didn't go the first night we were there, I wouldn't make it. Pray tell, why would one do that? Well, if Jonathan Waxman says the first thing he did was take famed Italian Chef Giada De Laurentiis to experience the $5 fried bologna sandwich. Who shouldn't? A slice of flat top freid bologna between two pieces of white bread with a side of Lays potatoe chips, I was in hog heaven. Add a PBR, and you are off to the races. Jonathan Waxman is the kind of chef who can turn a honky tonk fried bologna sandwich in Nashville into high culinary art, then philosophize about the virtues of a perfectly marbled 1961 steak—all before your first glass of Beaujolais is finished. In this episode, you'll discover the inner workings of an acclaimed chef's mind as Jonathan shares the flavors, friendships, and formative experiences that shaped his career. You'll hear about how “wine comes first, food comes second” became his guiding principle, the serendipitous plane rides sourcing lamb and lobster for legendary winery dinners, and the awe-inspiring meals in the kitchens of France that sparked his lifelong passion for simplicity and flavor. Alongside host Paul Kalemkiarian, Jonathan revisits the rollicking days at Michael's and Jams, brushes elbows with food world icons from Alice Waters to Melvin Masters, and reveals the quiet intensity required to survive and thrive in the high-wire environment of fine dining. From the intricacies of nouvelle cuisine to the rainbow of immigrant influences shaping American food culture, you'll gain an insider's appreciation for the nuances of restaurant evolution, the subtle art of pairing local wines with regional dishes, and the uncompromising drive that keeps chefs inventing and adapting—even when the world turns upside down. Whether you're curious how the Michelin Guide still shapes a restaurant's fortunes, or just want to know what it's like to be mentored by legends while flying by the seat of your pants, this episode peels back the layers of taste, tradition, and tenacity, one delicious story at a time. This week's show is with Tad Hargrave. Tad is a hippy who developed a knack for marketing (and then learned how to be a hippy again). Since 2001, he's been weaving together strands of ethical marketing, Waldorf School education, a history in the performing arts, local culture work, anti-globalization activism, an interest in his ancestral, traditional cultures, community building and supporting local economies into this work of helping people create profitable businesses that are ethically grown while restoring the beauty of the marketplace. Tad did improv comedy semi-professionally for 25 years, co-ran Edmonton's progressive community building network TheLocalGood.ca, founded streetcarshows.com and the Jams program of yesworld.org. He speaks Scottish Gaelic and helped to launch and co-facilitate the Nova Scotia Gaels Jam. He is from Edmonton, Alberta (traditionally known, in the language of the Cree, as Amiskwaciy [Beaver Hill] and later Amiskwaciwaskihegan [Beaver Hill House]) and currently lives in Duncan, BC (Quw'utsun territory). In this episode, Lian and Tad explore the hidden terrain where creativity and commerce collide… the trap many artists, healers, and visionaries fall into without even realising. Together, they map the archetypal dynamics between the artist and the entrepreneur, illuminating the often-unseen pattern that keeps soulful work from fully flourishing in the world. Tad shares his potent visual model of collapsing and posturing — revealing how both are twin expressions of the same wound, and why neither offers true freedom. Lian reflects on the parallels with shadow work, the conflation of collapsing with nobility, and the ache many feel when faced with the false binary of authenticity versus success. They also touch on the ancient roots of these archetypes, and the wounding of both beauty and provision in our modern age. At the heart of this conversation is a deeper possibility: a marriage of the artist and entrepreneur, not rooted in proving or hiding, but in composure… wholeness… a quiet trust in one's being. It's a profound remembering of how businesses — like children — are born from the union of devotion and provision, creativity and care. A call to beauty as the ground beneath it all. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: How the ‘trap' reveals itself through posturing and collapsing — and why both are driven by the same underlying fear Why the true work is not balancing opposites, but moving beyond the binary into composure, where nothing needs to be proved or hidden How the artist and entrepreneur are ancient archetypes… and how their marriage creates the conditions for beautiful, ethical, and effective work in the world Resources and stuff spoken about: The trap - image of the quadrant, and quadrant with thrid column Visit Tad's Website Tad's Ethical Marketing Starter Kit https://majikmedia.com/series/ https://majikmedia.com/signature-workshop/ https://marketingforhippies.com/product/the-trap-webinar-recordings/ Find out more about Membership for Marketing for Hippies Join Tad on Instagram & YouTube See Tad's Upcoming Events Join UNIO, the Academy of Sacred Union. Long ago and far away, around 1970, there was a smoldering rage that permeated through every strata of American society. Following a flurry of assassinations in the mid sixties, the Manson murders in ‘69, riots in Detroit, the Motor City in '67, and in Chicago at the 1968 Democratic Convention, at Kent State in ‘70 with the murder of four protesting students - it seemed that the whole fabric of society was coming apart due to the country being mired in the Viet Nam war and the never ending specter of racism. Step up to the mic Gil Scott-Heron and the MC5. In “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,” Mr. Scott-Heron, in a performance that has earned him the title “The Godfather of Rap” in some quarters - eviscerates those couch potatoes who are watching it all unfold on tv, and that expect things to right themselves between commercial interruptions. And he does it with jazzy flair that made the absurdity of the whole situation crystal clear.. And, then there was the Motor City 5, those scruffy provocateurs whose manager, John Sinclair was jailed for two joints, who fought the good fight the only way they knew how: by “Kicking out the Jams, Motherfucker!”GIL SCOTT-HERONScott-Heron's combination of spoken word poetry with soul-jazz is a style which has made him influential throughout the decades. So much so that he was inducted as an influence in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame. In “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” he melds the two strains - one melodic, one verbal - together to deliver an unassailable message: there will be no change without intentional activism. It's word play may be humorous, but it's deadly serious. Now we have the internet and social media and people are less inclined to believe what they see, or even commit to any action because their attention is being relentlessly consumed. In 1970, despite the horrendous condition of the political scene, Gil Scott-Heron still believed that societal change was possible.MC5The same optimism resounds in Kick out the Jams by the MC5. These were kids who saw the wrong headed direction of their government, and tried, by assuming the outlaw stance of revolutionaries, to influence the youth. However, the enterprise was hobbled from the start by drugs, their association with White Panther Party founder, John Sinclair, - and, the radio censorship by their label of their most famous song because of the introduction's unacceptable word “motherfucker!” They were a great live band of proto-punks, home-town heroes in Detroit, who never achieved the national prominence they deserved. It's not the lyrics of Kick out the jams that are dangerous - it's the exuberant energy of the offending word - that, ironically, created history.

If you find yourself involved in the civil justice system, you don't have to go to trial. Alternatives like mediation or arbitration can offer faster, less adversarial paths to resolution without airing out all your business to the public. But, they're not the best option for every case — like everything with our justice system, there's a lot of nuance. Kimberly Taylor, CEO of JAMS, sat down with investigative journalist Mandy Matney and attorney Eric Bland to discuss the advantages of differences between mediation and arbitration. Taylor highlights JAMS' 40-year history, its 30-40 new panelists annually, and its optional appellate process. JAMS recently welcomed judge Clifton Newman as one of their newest mediators! In the end… everyone agrees that a little emotional expression and a little lunch goes a long way to bringing an amicable resolution. And some fresh baked cookies apparently don't hurt either…

Just Shoot It: A Podcast about Filmmaking, Screenwriting and Directing
Jamaal Parham, part of the directing duo Jams and Bash, talks to Oren and Matt about how they approach their business without the cheesiness. From a start working exclusively with Broadway productions, they've become a CAA-recognized brand in sports comedy.Matt discusses how the dream of never looking at a spreadsheet isn't realistic in filmmaking, or at least not in building a career in it. And Jamaal shares secrets on how they connect with decision-makers through targeted social media strategies that go beyond traditional PR, advertising, or social thinking.**Key lesson:** A lot of directing is really hosting.
