I caught up with Becky & Maya at Club Saw this past Saturday night. Based on our conversation in this podcast, I decided to put together a quick PACK "best of" playlist. Very quickly it got up to 28 songshttps://spoti.fi/3xnCm80Honestly, listen to the playlist and try to figure out why these songs (especially from Unpersons through It Was Fun While It Lasted) aren't all over Canadian Rock & Alternative Radio???? Thanks for listening & supporting Much Love Darryl Spring
DTTB Ep.66 - George StroumboulopoulosPunk Rock & PoliticsOne of the people I wanted to interview while planning this podcast series, without question was Strombo. This is another episode where I get to interview a remarkable interviewer. Like Alan Cross Official, or CFNY founder David Marsden. All of whom, shared some amazing stories in this series.George and I talked about 102.1 The Edge in this episode. He was colleagues with some of my mentors there, including the late Martin Streek Tribute. In fact the last time I saw George in person was at the Opera House for a celebration in honour of Martin. We also discussed the Danko Jones / Monster Truck issue, which I weighed in on, based on an episode done with Jon Harvey. This led in to an important chat about where we are in North American in 2022. Which only left me thinking, are politics in George's future? In an official capacity? With George out on the West Coast, I thought we were talking at 6pm PT, so I didn't even write out questions or set up the light I usually use for video podcasts. But with George, I'm kind of glad we just hit record and go.
The Glorious Sons have established themselves as a force in Canadian Rock n' Roll. As someone who got to see them in the early days in Kingston, their success isn't a surprise. They're back with new music and have been producing it themselves during lockdown. The best part is that they've achieved everything as an independent band on their own terms.
Demetrius Nath is the singer of the Mississauga pop punk band Maybe May He also has a day job in the industry and is an all around good guy.Maybe May recently release a video for their new single "Survive, Satellite". It's fun when podcasts are also opportunities to catch up with old friends, and meet new ones! I'm super excited about their new music. About a year and a half ago, I made an introduction that's turned into a collaboration that will be on their forthcoming record
Darryl Spring is passionate about rock radio. Although it started out with an attraction for what was coming out of the club shows of then CFNY-FM 102, Darryl knew radio was his future. From Loyalist College, to Q92 in Timmins, to Corus Radio in Toronto and Hamilton. His next two stops included Kingston and Ottawa, where there was great success, and some unfortunately timed circumstances. In this episode you will hear about all the fun that went on at these stations. And just like our episode with Bob Willette, Darryl was also told that the golden era of Edge 102 was before he arrived. You will also hear us reminisce about the late Martin Streek and Bobby Gale; both huge music fans. David Marsden is best know as the creator of CFNY in Toronto and led it during it's most revered and influential time. New Wave and all of the wonderful, but mostly ignored post-punk music of the 80's He's also one of 4 broadcasters featured in the documentary I Am What I Play, which as the title suggests, is about really standing up for what you believe in... credibility, trying to push things forward. What's the weirdest thing you'd think a recovered, stolen guitar would come back covered in? They also discuss their cover of Alice Cooper's "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and play a slide guitar, reverbed living room take of 'The Cure' off their first record that is most certainly served best with a whisky
Remember a few months ago when Australia was burning? We all watched in horror at what was happening to the animals.
