We are called to stand firm in the freedom of Jesus Christ and His gospel. At the same time, we are called to use that freedom for loving our neighbors.

Pastor: Rev. Kendra Balliet Scripture Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30 Sermon "I Need Help"
Here Peter confesses that Jesus is the Messiah … the longed for one that the prophets mentioned in the ‘they say’ response in verse fourteen. Christ (Christos) is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew Messiah. God’s predicted and long-awaited deliverer of Israel. Peter confesses not that Jesus is merely another in the long line of prophets and teachers proclaiming and longing for the coming Messiah … but that Jesus IS the Christ the supreme ‘Anointed One” … THE Messiah … the long-awaited promised Savior. Jesus’ response points to the key biblical doctrine of divine revelation. Not just of who Jesus is but of who God reveals himself to be. A key doctrine is revealed here … the doctrine that we cannot know God apart from God giving us the ability to know Him. Particular/Special Revelation of God is Jesus Christ himself. This is why we are now at the interaction between Jesus and Peter in Matthew 16:16. Peter acknowledges who Jesus is … THE CHRIST … the Messiah who saves … the SON of the living God. It is impossible for fallen men to see God through reason alone. It is impossible for fallen men to know God through ‘natural revelation’ alone.

The first thing that we see in Jesus' conclusion of the discourse in eleventh chapter of Matthew is that those who come to him will share in the Kingdom of Heaven. Those who come to Jesus are those who are humble in hearing what Jesus chooses to reveal. Jesus calls all to unite with him in celebrating the hidden things of God that are now revealed. No one can come to faith on their own morality or intellect; only by the mysterious illumination of the Holy Spirit and by faith in Christ's atonement of sin can one be a part of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus' yoke of salvation is light and gentle. Our LORD removes the penalty of sin from us and shares in the burden of the journey in this fallen world. This yoke is one of learning from Jesus how to release the burden of sin, to embrace the yoke of salvation from Jesus. HE will come alongside us and will carry the load with us while also taking the burden from us. Jesus is gentle. Jesus is humble.

"For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefor and and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1 We have all heard that no one is perfect. Why then do we beat ourselves up when we are not perfect? In Paul's letter to the Galatians we find 3 reasons for not getting involved in perfectionism.
Heart attacks are common. Most of us know someone who has had one, or have had our lives touched in some way by one. But, what about a healthy heart attack? In this sermon, Rev. Dr. David D. Young shares his own experience of his father's heart attack to introduce the idea of a "healthy" heart attack-- one of faith, and of the transformational power of God's love.

What does it mean to be humble? Let's begin by stating what humble is not. Humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of other instead and acting in their best interest, instead of your own.

Through the stories of wedding and love, we learn about how our tendency to tell stories changes based on our relationship. All these stories help to shape our life and understanding of God. Regardless of the stories we tell or others tell about us. The most important story is God's love for us.
