Send us your feedback — we're listeningEVENING CALM & EMOTIONAL RENEWAL AFTER CHRISTMAS FATIGUE Welcome to Christmas Week Prayer with Reverend Ben Cooper, recorded live here in London, England, where the world gathers for five minutes of faith, hope, and strength. We go straight into prayer. Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Psalm 73:26 — “God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” On Boxing Day evening, global searches surge for “calm my mind,” “evening peace,” “how to unwind,” and “emotional reset after Christmas.” Many feel overwhelmed, overstretched, or quietly exhausted. Father, in Jesus' name, bring calm to our minds and healing to our emotions tonight. Settle thoughts racing from pressure, noise, and expectation. Lift the heaviness that settles when the day slows. Restore peace where tension lingered through Christmas gatherings. Speak strength into those feeling drained or directionless. Cover every home with gentleness, every heart with stillness, every mind with renewed clarity. Let your presence soften anxiety, lighten burdens, and restore hope within the quiet hours. Fill this evening with your rest and let tomorrow rise with fresh grace. prayer for calm, prayer for evening peace, prayer for emotional healing, prayer for anxiety relief, prayer for strength, prayer for clarity, prayer for rest, prayer for God's presence, prayer for comfort, prayer for renewal Take 60 seconds of silence before sleep and breathe Matthew 11:28 over your thoughts. I declare that God's rest and emotional renewal fill my evening. As we conclude this week's reflections on John the Baptist, we consider Jesus' powerful declaration that while John was the greatest of those born under the Old Covenant, even the least in the New Covenant holds a unique position of greatness. We recognize that this transition represents a move from an external law to an internal presence—the mystery of "Christ in us, the hope of glory." We understand that through the Holy Spirit, the real presence of Christ is not a distant hope but a current reality that dwells within each of us. Consequently, we are encouraged to view every aspect of our lives, from the mundane to the monumental, as sacred, knowing that Christ is really and fully present in every breath we take.Shameless plug: here's a link to Method(ist) to the Madness, our new, hopefully entertaining podcast about church history. - https://methodisttothemadness.buzzsprout.com/Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. As we continue our journey toward Christmas, we reflect on the profound humanity of John the Baptist, who found himself questioning his life's work and Jesus' identity while facing execution in prison. We recognize that even the most devoted among us can experience a crisis of faith, yet we understand that these moments of doubt do not invalidate our status as Christians; rather, they highlight our human need for reassurance. We argue that the vital response to such moments is not to retreat, but to turn toward the truth of Scripture and the support of our faith community. By bathing our minds in the Word now, we ensure that we have a firm foundation to lean on whenever we find ourselves asking if we have "done it right."Shameless plug: here's a link to Method(ist) to the Madness, our new, hopefully entertaining podcast about church history. - https://methodisttothemadness.buzzsprout.com/Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. John is more than a prophet, but a messenger.Gaudete Advent 3 2025Isaiah 40:1–8 (9-11) / 1 Corinthians 4:1–5 / Matthew 11:2–10 (11)
This week, we heard from Anna as we continued through advent!
Matthew 11:2-11When John the Baptist heard in prison of the works of the Christ,he sent his disciples to Jesus with this question,"Are you the one who is to come,or should we look for another?"Jesus said to them in reply,"Go and tell John what you hear and see:the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me."As they were going off,Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John,"What did you go out to the desert to see?A reed swayed by the wind? Then what did you go out to see?Someone dressed in fine clothing? Those who wear fine clothing are in royal palaces. Then why did you go out? To see a prophet?Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written:Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you;he will prepare your way before you.Amen, I say to you, among those born of womenthere has been none greater than John the Baptist;yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."

Rev. Dr. Evan Marbury, Matthew 11:1-11
"Joy is the confidence born out of the experience to know that you are on the Lord's highway." As we continue through this season of Advent, what are the signs that point to God's work in your life? What are the signs that remind you of the joy that you have in the Lord? What are the signs that also remind you of the hope and peace that the Lord brings?...Live streams are available each Sunday at 11:00 am on our website, app, and Vimeo at: https://vimeo.com/chippewaumcChippewaUMC.org

What Happens When I Start to Doubt? | Christ For YouText: Matthew 11:2–11 | Third Sunday in Advent (Gaudete)What do you do when faith feels weak and God feels distant? What happens when prayers go unanswered and nothing in your life seems to change? Does doubt mean something is wrong with your faith—or is something else happening? From a prison cell, John the Baptist asks Jesus the unthinkable: “Are You the One, or should we look for another?” This sermon confronts the dangerous idea that real Christians never doubt and shows why even the strongest believers need to hear the Gospel again and again. Doubt is not cured by distance, memory, or willpower—it is answered by Christ's Word. When circumstances don't change, Jesus doesn't give explanations or fixes. He gives a promise. And that promise is enough. If even John the Baptist needed Christ preached into his doubt, what does that say about you?Subscribe & Share:Apple Podcasts: Christ For YouSpotify: Christ For YouWebsite: ZionWG.orgContact:PastorRojas@ZionWG.org

The Messiah is an important person. “Messiah” is the same word as “Christ,” which means, “Anointed One.” He is someone who has been anticipated for a long time. Now we look at a time when his arrival is imminent! The historic Christian Church gave Latin titles to each Sunday. They titled the Third Sunday in Advent “Gaudete,” which means “Rejoice!” As we reach the midway point of Advent, we ask Christ to empower us to do just that. We rejoice because God fulfills all his promises in Jesus.
2 When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent word by his disciples 3 and said to him, "Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?" 4 Jesus answered them, "Go and tell John what you hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with a skin disease are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them. 6 And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me." 7 As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to look at? A reed shaken by the wind? 8 What, then, did you go out to see? Someone dressed in soft robes? Look, those who wear soft robes are in royal palaces. 9 What, then, did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom it is written, 'See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.' 11 "Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one has arisen greater than John the Baptist, yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."

ON SUNDAY December 14, the message is called Idylls of the King, with Patrick Edwards. It's normal to have doubts or questions in a time of crisis or suffering. Why would a good God allow bad things to happen especially to people who follow Him and worship Him? It's hard to have joy when things aren't merry and bright. But by centering ourselves on the King and His promises are we able to see that He is, indeed, working all things for good, and there we can find joy.

Jesus said to the crowds:"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,for I am meek and humble of heart;and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."
Even John the Baptist, the prophet who points his long, bony finger to Jesus, is left to question, "Are you the one who is to come?” Lars Olson teaches us that John, just like all of us, expects Jesus to make the world a better place according to our expectations. But that's what Advent is all about: the dawn of a new creation. A new kingdom found in the promise of Christ. CHALLENGE GRANTA Luther House of Study donor is sponsoring a challenge grant. Rooted in the theology of the cross and the Lutheran tradition of radical grace, this series offers both theological depth and practical guidance for pastors, church workers, and lay leaders. With conversations, real-life stories, and reflections from the front lines of ministry, Care of Souls equips listeners to enter the broken places of addiction not with easy answers, but with the crucified and risen Christ.Because in the end, it's not about fixing people—it's about preaching the Gospel.Listen to Care of Souls wherever you listen to podcasts or on the Luther House website: Care of Souls - AddictionSING TO THE LORD Martin Luther said, "Next to the word of God, the art of music is the greatest treasure in the world." To understand the importance of hymnody in the Lutheran church, Lars Olson and Mason Van Essen sit down with Zachary Brockhoff to discuss the lectionary's hymns, their meaning and history, and how the music preaches the Gospel.
