This week's Advent focus is on the Magi, who embarked on a journey to worship Jesus, symbolizing a spiritual journey of discovery and surrender. Through this story, we see that worship is a lifestyle that requires offering our lives fully to God and aligning personal plans with His will. As we walk through the journey of worship - in discovery, treasure, and humility—we can engage deeply and humbly in worship.

During our second week of Advent, we read in Luke Chapter 2 about how the shepherds in the field were the first to hear about the birth of Jesus from angels. Ordinary, marginalized people were chosen to be the first to receive the news of the Messiah's arrival in Bethlehem. As we talked about the wonder and awe that the shepherds must have experienced, we were challenged to share the joy and wonder of our faith with others through personal stories, the way we live, and inviting others to experience the good news.
With the coldest season of the year upon us, Azim Ahmed hears how faith groups across Wales are helping homeless people through the hardest winter months. It's estimated that nearly 3000 people each year sleep rough in Wales, but being homeless also includes people who are living in temporary hostels or night shelters, or lodging temporarily with family or friends. Nearly 10, 000 households in Wales are classified as at risk of being pushed into homelessness due to poverty and insecure housing. Across Wales people of faith do what they can to alleviate the hardship of living without a home, and today we'll meet some of these individuals and hear about the personal efforts they make. We begin at the Victoria Fish Bar in North Cardiff where one Muslim family, Mohammad and Jawad Nazakat, head up an initiative to give out free fish and chips to the homeless each Christmas. In Wrexham Housing Justice Cymru's Citadel project helps foster community for the people they support over the Christmas period. They work in collaboration with Hope Street Church, who gather together volunteers to pack ‘Bags of Kindness' for those in need at Christmas. It's part of a national initiative, ‘Love Christmas' encouraging organisations to spread kindness during the festive period. We visit the Hare Krishna ‘Atma Café' in central Cardiff which gives out free vegan food to those in need. We hear from Father Dean Atkins and Salvation Army chaplain John Stark who have organised a memorial service at St. Mary's Butetown to remember those who have died homeless. The service is accompanied by the ‘Choir with No Name', a choir which builds joyful singing communities with people impacted by homelessness and marginalisation.
I love Christmas! I adore the lights, the decorations, the trees, the ornaments, the Christmas carols, the eggnog, the cookies, the presents—the whole experience. Yes, I understand it has some suspicious historical roots, but I enjoy everything about the holiday. In this episode of Self Talk, hear what Dr. Ray has to say about Christmas and why it is a time to celebrate. Luke 2:10 11 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. The Christmas season can be one of the busiest—and sometimes most stressful—times in ministry. With endless events, high expectations, and the pressure to make everything perfect, it's easy for pastors to lose sight of the joy and meaning of the season. In this episode, we tackle the challenge of being a "Pastor Grinch" at Christmas. Together, we'll explore practical ways to embrace the spirit of the Christmas Season while managing the unique demands of ministry during the holidays.
In this sermon, we kick off the Advent season with a message that focuses on the concept of being "willing." Pastor John highlights the story of Mary and Joseph as examples of having hearts sensitive to God's call and willing to do difficult things. He walks us through three key points: willingness is birthed from a heart sensitive toward the Lord, believers can do difficult things when following God's plan, and obedience is required to fulfill God's purpose.
Happy Christmas in July! It might not be the time of year where you're used to thinking about Christmas. But we think it's a great time to grab a pool floaty and your family and think through what this year's Christmas season will look like. Plus, we LOVE Christmas. And we love all of the opportunities the season gives us to redirect anticipation toward Jesus' birth. So our team compiled a list of 5 activities to make the season more meaningful, and we know that just a little bit of preparation now will reap huge rewards once Christmas rolls around. Plus, we'd love it more than anything if you'd join us this year with Advent Blocks. It's what started us on this whole journey of celebrating the GoodKind habits and holidays. And we think you'll love it! www.goodkind.shop Top 5 Activities for a More Meaningful Christmas 1. Make space to decorate. Enjoy the lights and tree (no judgment on if it is real or artificial!) but also put something up central in the home that is about Jesus. We think Advent Blocks is just as good as a decoration as it is a family tradition. 2. Make something homemade. Christmas crafts are the best! There are tons of options online, but we also have several suggestions for church leaders to use along with Advent Blocks! Sign up here for the local church program for crafts, games, and coloring pages for the whole church to use together! 3. Read a book together. Repetition is key. And the Christmas story is a beautiful one to craft a family tradition around. Pick a devotional that you will plan to read together year after year. 4. Sing! There are so many great Christmas carols, jingles, and songs to celebrate the season with. We even wrote one ourselves! 5. Give intentional gifts. Schedule time to shop together with your kids. Schedule a time to wrap those gifts. The togetherness makes it so special. But before you do any of that, schedule a time to make your list, and make it meaningful. Last year, we even suggested cutting some people out! Trust us, being intentional about the whole gift-giving process may feel like extra work, but it is so worth it to have the confidence that goes with the intentionality! And they will feel it too!

This year is a special year because the 4th week of Advent lands on Christmas Eve. So if you're listening to this, you are actually listening to our Christmas Eve Service. Amazingly enough, it lands on the most important subject we can possibly seek after…God is love. This is what the incarnation is about: Love. That he loved us enough to become us. That he loved us enough to take on all of humanity and release us from our false views of God. Pagan gods demand sacrifice to be loved, pagan gods demand words to be loved, pagan gods need appeased to be loved. Not Christ. He is the true God, and he showed us what true love is.

In this time of preparation for Christmas, do you find it hard to slow down? To appreciate the way Jesus comes to us? Small and humble. Well, I certainly do. I love Christmas, but I'll be honest, I have conflicting emotions. I want salvation to be bright and loud! I want the world to be all better, and I want it to be all better now. And yet, the Lord asks us, especially during this season, to trust in his slow work and maybe to slow down a bit ourselves. So, spend 10 minutes with me today and discover: * The unexpected joy hidden in the small and slow aspects of Christmas. * My honest reflections on grappling with the desire for immediate, grand transformations. * A prayerful invitation to trust in the slow and small salvation of God.
