My curiosity for today's guest began when I saw his simple M-shaped lightning bolt logo. From there, I read his story, engaged with his work, and quickly knew that I needed to talk with him. Dylan Menges of Menges Design is all about idea-driven, handcrafted design. With a passion and extensive experience in lettering, Dylan brings to his client work a desire for boldness and the courage to be seen and heard. Our conversation begins at the deep end of life, discussing eternity and the long-term impact of our work. But we don't stop there, as we talk a lot about setting and managing expectations, the need for experimentation and taking risks, and moving forward into the unknown future.

This week on EGGS we have one-of-a-kind artist, illustrator and designer Dylan Menges of Menges Design in Columbus, OH. With Dylan we discuss his past and his present including being struck by lightning as a child, dropping out and returning to finish college, his time in the military, life and times in the ad business and opening his own shop. We also talked about the importance of being able to give and take critique well — including accepting advice you are given — the value of mentors and how to find one, paying your dues and doing what's right. It was a great and insightful conversation — despite some technical difficulty — and we just think you'll love it. Tune in, turn up, and learn something on Eggs! Episode 240. Aired on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 These days growing my business and starting my illustration journey are constantly on my mind. As I search for this clarity of purpose I am lucky to talk to someone who is ahead of me on this journey. This week I am talking to someone I really look up to, my friend, Dylan Menges. He is a true inspiration to me, both business-wise and spiritually. We will dig into how he went out on his own in Sept 2015 and how he uncovered what he was meant to be doing with his life, talent, and time. Dylan is an amazingly talented letterer and illustrator. He deals with the same things we all deal with, like fear of the blank page, the punishing self-talk that holds us all back. We will talk about breaking through all this and building Menges Design with his wife, Janet.
