It's one thing to practice and study mindfulness. It's a great thing. It's another to act accordingly. What happens when you're in the courtroom or conference room or family room? Does your heart stay open, or clamp shut? Is your mind filled with hate, or love? When my heart is shut or my mind is filled (or even tinged) with hate, sadly, I act accordingly. When my heart is open and my mind is filled with love, or even tipped in that direction, I tend to act according to that. In the end, and in these times especially, it's why I study and practice: to be able to see, as clearly as possible, which way this heart and mind are leaning. And to have the tools, and the fortitude, and the courage, to course-correct to love.

In this thought-provoking episode of Optimal Metabolism, Shana tackles four deceptively simple questions that reveal some of the biggest misconceptions surrounding metabolic health today. Could eating too often be more problematic than eating too much? Can someone be overweight and undernourished at the same time? Is your fatigue really a food issue—or could your light environment be playing a larger role? And what if your nightly Netflix habit is affecting your blood sugar more than that dessert you enjoyed after dinner? If you've been struggling with stubborn weight, fatigue, cravings, blood sugar issues, or simply feel like you're doing everything right without seeing results, this episode will challenge your thinking and give you a fresh perspective on what may be driving your symptoms. WHAT WE DISCUSSED: • What's harder on metabolism: overeating or over-frequent eating? • How insulin and meal frequency influence fat burning and metabolic flexibility. • Why many people today are simultaneously overweight and undernourished. • The connection between nutrient density, cravings, and metabolic dysfunction. • How light exposure impacts circadian rhythms, cortisol, melatonin, and energy production. • Why fatigue isn't always about food, supplements, or hormones. • The surprising relationship between evening screen exposure and blood sugar regulation. • Practical strategies to improve metabolic health without adding more restriction. SPONSOR OF THIS EPISODE Today's episode is sponsored by GOOD IDEA. GOOD IDEA is a science-backed beverage designed to help reduce blood sugar spikes when consumed before meals. If you're working to improve metabolic health, insulin resistance, prediabetes, or blood sugar control, it may be a helpful tool to add to your routine. Are Trump Accounts a good idea — or just another financial product being sold as a plan? In this episode, Curtis May breaks down Trump Accounts from a Practical Wealth and principle-based planning perspective. These accounts may help children begin saving and investing, and eligible children may receive a one-time $1,000 government contribution. But Curtis explains why one account does not replace cash flow control, liquidity, protection, and a real family financial system. The real question is not, "Should I open a Trump Account?" The better question is: Do I have a financial system that gives my family control? At Practical Wealth, we help families and business owners find money they are losing unknowingly and unnecessarily, then redirect that money toward cash flow, protection, liquidity, private reserve building, and legacy. With the rise of dating apps, it seems more common to have sex without being in love. Sex for sex's sake, promises to be mindless and commitment-free. In short: pleasure without the risk of pain, but this might not be the whole story.  Experts suggest that this trend reflects a deeper change in society. The separation of sex from love and emotional attachment is part of a broader societal shift towards consumerism and individual pleasure. Why are people tempted by a quick fling? Is it even possible to detach your body from your feelings? So, by cutting ourselves off from feelings, do we deprive ourselves of some of the pleasure? Should we be wary of this kind of behavior? In this episode I sit down with Peter Younes, host of Project Command, to explore one of the biggest hidden gaps in the modern fire service: our ability to turn good ideas into finished, effective change. We talk about why firefighters are often brilliant at delivering under pressure on the fireground but far less prepared for the complex world of projects, planning, implementation, stakeholder management and organisational change. Peter shares his journey from firefighter and captain into leading major projects, building structure around delivery and learning why so many well intentioned ideas fail before they ever reach the people they are supposed to help. This conversation gets into mission & scope creep, change management, soft skills, behavioural friction, leadership development, promotion gaps and why the fire service needs people who can do more than identify problems. It needs people who can actually get things done.FIND PETER HERE FIND PROJECT COMMAND PODCAST HEREAccess all episodes, documents, GIVEAWAYS & debriefs HEREPodcast Apparel, Hoodies, Flags, Mugs HERE Please check out our Partners supporting this episode areWilliam Wood Watches - Discount code FFPODCAST gives the user 10% off full range on websiteFIRST TACTICAL- tactical gear for elite operatorsGORE-TEX Professional ClothingMSA The Safety CompanyJAFCOIDEXFIRE & EVACUATION SERVICE LTD Send us Fan MailSupport the show***The views expressed in this episode are those of the individual speakers. Send us Fan MailA mom asked a question at one of our live events that sparked a conversation on our team. She created a phone contract with her kids that included mutual phone checks—meaning she could look at their phones, and they could look at hers. Then she asked: “Is that ok?” In the moment, Mandy said yes—affirming the mom's desire to build trust and model openness. But afterward, our team kept talking. Should phone rules go both ways? Are there situations where that might not be the best approach? In this episode, Mandy and Merideth unpack both perspectives—exploring the balance between trust and leadership. They discuss real-life considerations like privacy, spouse conversations, work-related information, and the kind of content that can unexpectedly show up on a parent's phone. They also zoom out to digital safety—why “deleted” doesn't always mean gone, the risks tied to sharing images, and how AI is changing the conversation for families. You'll walk away with practical guidance on creating a phone contract,  involving your kids in the process, and adjusting boundaries as they grow. Create Guidelines - nextTalk Random Phone Checks? - nextTalk Free Guide: Phone Contract (Faith-Based) - nextTalk Is my kid ready for a phone? - nextTalk Free Guide: Family Pact Kid Version (5+) - nextTalk Free Guide: Family Pact Teen Version (13+) - nextTalk My kid has a phone with no guidelines.
