Hi, I'm Connor with Honor - message me here! The scale is a fair weather friend. It shows up when you do not need it, and it lies to your face when you do. Listen in as I talk about the scale, fat loss, and the strange way your body's brain works against you, in plain English, from one food addict to anybody who has fought this fight. I am Connor MacIvor. I am not a doctor. I am a guy who has been fat, who quit alcohol and cigarettes, and who is walking the food fight out loud. In this episode:- Why your body clings to fat once you gain it.- The bliss point: how food was engineered to be as addictive as some drugs, and how tobacco money bought the food companies to do it.- Why the scale goes up on day 4 of a water fast with zero food coming in.- Visceral fat, the killer fat, and why it is the first to go.- The mental trap that makes most people quit right when it is working.- Why moderation does not work for an addict, and what finally did.- You were given a billion dollar body. This is my personal experience, not medical advice. This week, Phil is joined by guest co-host Randy Wang of KABC Radio for three stories out of Sacramento and LA that all come down to the same question: who's actually accountable when the numbers don't add up?First, the documented timeline behind the FBI's investigation into Gavin Newsom's former chief of staff, Dana Williamson — including new reporting that an informant was recording conversations inside Newsom's political circle a full year before Trump returned to office, and how the case reaches back to a dormant campaign account belonging to Xavier Becerra, the Democratic nominee for governor. Then, California Attorney General Rob Bonta's lawsuit to block the $110 billion Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger — filed a month after the U.S. Department of Justice cleared the same deal. Phil and Randy dig into the split between LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath's push to protect entertainment jobs from the merger and new reporting that Paramount's own advisers are now discussing whether to move the company out of California entirely. Finally, LA County's decision to strip $300 million in homeless services funding from LAHSA after an independent audit found the agency couldn't verify how $2.3 billion was actually spent — and whether handing the same money to a brand-new department solves the problem or just renames it.Three stories, one hour, no political team — just the documents.California Underground airs live every Tuesday at 8PM PST on YouTube, with the full episode available here on your podcast app afterward.Read The Gilded State, Phil's book on California's political dysfunction: www.thegildedstate.comMore from California Underground:Substack: caunderground.substack.comInstagram & TikTok: @californiaundergroundX: @ca_underground

Through her practice, Hali'a Therapeutics, Jess provides concierge-style care for families from pregnancy through the first year of life, bringing a whole-body, nervous-system-informed lens to feeding, oral motor function, movement, milestones, and tongue tie care.Lisa and Jess talk about the important role occupational therapy can play in infant feeding and tongue tie care, especially when babies are struggling with regulation, sensory processing, oral motor coordination, head shape, or feeding patterns that do not fit neatly into one category.Jess explains sensory processing in a practical way, including how babies take in, filter, and respond to touch, sound, movement, and oral input. They discuss how sensory differences may show up during feeding, such as gagging, popping on and off the breast, difficulty reorganizing after switching sides, or becoming easily overwhelmed by movement, sound, or touch. They also explore neuroplasticity, mirror neurons, and why babies often need support learning how to use new tongue mobility after release. Jess shares why infant care should include more than identifying restriction, and why supporting function, movement, and nervous system regulation can make such a difference. The conversation also includes an important discussion about head shape, palate shape, birth positioning, time in containers, and how the body's structure can influence feeding. Lisa and Jess emphasize the importance of looking at the whole baby, not just the mouth.Lisa and Jess discuss:How occupational therapy fits into infant feeding and tongue tie careWhat sensory processing means in babiesSigns that sensory overwhelm may be affecting feedingWhy some babies struggle with oral input, movement, or switching sidesNeuroplasticity, mirror neurons, and infant oral motor learningWhy babies may need help learning to use new tongue mobilityHow head shape and palate shape can affect feedingThe impact of birth positioning, prematurity, and time in containersWhy whole-body assessment matters before and after tongue tie releaseSupporting both baby and parent as a connected dyadConnect with Jess DraperInstagram: @haliatherapeuticsEmail: jess@haliaot.comMore from Tongue Tie ExpertsExplore additional resources, including downloads, free guides, and links mentioned in this episode—along with access to our courses and new book:

In this episode of The Vibe With Ky Podcast, sleep expert Derek Hales explains why your mattress might be the quiet reason you keep waking up exhausted. If you have been blaming your brain, your schedule, or your stress levels for why you never feel rested, this conversation was made for you.Derek Hales is the founder and editor-in-chief of NapLab.com, where he and his team have tested over 565 mattresses using objective, data-driven methods built entirely in-house. After a frustrating and expensive experience trying to buy his first mattress as a newlywed, Derek built a platform dedicated to cutting through the noise and giving sleepers real, unbiased answers. In this episode, Derek breaks down how the mattress industry is largely designed to confuse shoppers into overspending, what most marketing claims actually mean in practice, and exactly what to buy if you have zero time to research. The conversation also gets into how ADHD brains already run in a low-grade fight-or-flight state, and how a wrong mattress can compound that neurological load in ways that are hard to separate from other causes.Key takeaways from this episode:If your sleep feels noticeably better in a hotel or at someone else's home, your mattress may be a bigger factor in your energy levels than you think. The vast majority of sleepers do best on a hybrid mattress with a medium-firm feel, and spending between 1,500 and 2,000 dollars covers most of what the market has to offer.Cooling features on mattresses are often real but applied at levels too small to make a difference, so take brand claims with a grain of salt.Your pillow, sheets, and mattress protector all affect how your mattress performs, and a cheap protector can undercut even a high-quality bed.Get your free personalized mattress recommendation from Derek and his team at NapLab. In this episode, Tolene Van de Merwe laughs about it: she'll join a video call and find her whole Malta team bundled up in coats because it's sixteen degrees and, to them, that's cold! To her, coming from a British winter, it's practically summer. That small moment tells you almost everything about Malta out of season. While much of the Mediterranean pulls down the shutters at the end of October, Malta simply carries on as usual. In this episode, Ged sits down with Tolene of the Malta Tourism Authority, who has spent seven years sharing these islands with travellers across the UK and Ireland, to make the case for Malta as a year-round destination and for the quieter months as the time it shows its best side. They wander Valletta as an open-air, UNESCO-listed museum you can enjoy at your own pace, then cross to Gozo, the slower, greener sister island with its hand-worked salt pans and the hilltop shrine at Ta' Pinu, tiny Comino and its Blue Lagoon sitting in between. Tolene talks temples older than the pyramids at Ħaġar Qim, the cool hush of the catacombs at Rabat, and a food scene with its own Michelin guide, including a local wine you can only drink if you come, because Malta doesn't make enough of it to export. There's the practical steer too: which months to choose, with November her own favourite and October to April the sweet spot, how easy it is to get around by bus, ferry and car, and why nothing sits more than half an hour from the coast. Low season in Malta, as Tolene puts it, isn't off season. It's when the island is at its best.Plan your trip: https://www.visitmalta.comMore low-season Malta and Gozo: https://www.lowseasontraveller.com

Not influencer weddings, not a day staked on a single perfect photo, but real people throwing a celebration for the people they love. April shoots roughly 80% documentary, 20% editorial, and the result is an ode to real life that still manages to look pristine. But the reason I asked April on wasn't the work, lovely as it is. It was a post she'd made about family about what it actually costs to put your children first while you're trying to build a career in this industry. One Big Idea 1 - Using Trust and Relationships to De-Risk Ideas and Increase Adoption with Converse Digital's Tom MartinIn this episode of One Big Idea, host Josh Elledge sits down with Tom Martin, the Founder and President of Converse Digital and author of The Invisible Sale: Painless Prospecting for Professionals. Tom joins the show to share his game-changing framework on business development, marketing, and organizational influence. Specifically, he dives deep into how professionals can cultivate a powerful network of relationships to "de-risk" themselves, ensuring their ideas aren't just heard, but eagerly adopted by clients and decision-makers alike.Cultivating the Invisible Bond for Effortless Influence with Tom Martin of Converse DigitalWhy do some business development ideas catch fire while others fizzle out—even when the concepts are equally strong? According to Tom Martin, the secret weapon is what he calls the invisible bond. This bond is a strategic network of relationships, comprised of both strong and weak ties, built consistently over time. When cultivated correctly, this network creates an underlying layer of trust, credibility, and likability. When you present an idea to someone with whom you share an invisible bond, you effectively eliminate the friction of skepticism and lower their perceived risk in buying into your vision.Tom highlights that true persuasion isn't engineered in the exact moment of a pitch; it is the compound result of long-term investments made long before you ever ask for a deal. To activate this, professionals must intentionally nurture two types of connections: strong bonds (inner-circle advocates like core clients and direct stakeholders who create early momentum) and weak bonds (broader, casual acquaintances across industries who provide widespread amplification). By mapping out your network, executing micro-interactions, and consistently providing value before asking for anything in return, you transform your reputation from just another voice in the crowd into a trusted authority whose ideas are seen as a safe, winning bet.Links Mentioned in the EpisodeTom Martin on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tommartinjr/Converse Digital Website: www.conversedigital.comMore from The Thoughtful Entrepreneur

I named my anxiety Lucy…and it helped me realize that I am not my anxiety. After all these years together (she's been living rent free), I figured it was time she got a proper introduction. For a long time, Lucy and I weren't exactly friends. I used to let her control every part of my life (she's a diva like that). She convinced me that every worst case scenario was reality and that worrying was somehow keeping everyone safe. But somewhere along the way, I realized she wasn't trying to ruin my life. In her own chaotic, dramatic way, she was trying to protect me and the people I love. She just had a terrible way of showing it.So we've made some changes.I'm the driver now. Lucy is the passenger princess…and honestly, that's best for everyone. And while my anxiety's name is Lucy, you probably have your own version of Lucy too. Maybe yours has a different name, a different personality, or shows up in different ways, but if you've ever felt like your anxiety was running the show, this episode is for you.Because Lucy is a part of me. She always will be.And maybe learning to live with her, and not against her has been the most healing part of all.SocialsOTBS Instagram @onthebrightsidepoddOTBS TikTok: @onthebrightsidepodcastCaroline's Instagram: @carolinesuskoCaroline's Tiktok: @carolinesuskoSocial media inquiries: carolinesusko20@gmail.comPodcast Inquiries: onthebrightsidepod20@gmail.comMore about me (Amazon Storefront, LTK, Podcast Course etc): HEREWANT TO SEE A GUEST GET ON THE MIC? Send us Fan MailThis is the dramatic conclusion to our Elijah and Elisha series! Pastor Eric walks through Elisha's final moments and how we might have strength in weakness. Support the showThe Village Church's sermon podcast is more than just a weekly message. It is an invitation into the great and ongoing story of God's work in the world. Pastors Eric, Mark, Susan, Daniel, and other leaders open the Scriptures not as a collection of abstract ideas but as the living, breathing witness to God's kingdom breaking into our midst. Each episode is a call—not merely to listen, but to take part, to step forward into the life of faith with renewed vision and purpose.Week by week, the pastors and leaders explore the deep rhythms of Christian discipleship—prayer, fasting, generosity—not as isolated duties but as part of a larger, richer, and more beautiful whole. They unpack these ancient practices in light of Jesus himself, the one in whom heaven and earth have come together. But they also turn their attention to the realities of everyday life—relationships, finances, the struggles and joys of being human—demonstrating how the gospel is not merely about what we believe but about how we live as God's renewed people in the present age.The Village Churchvillagersonline@gmail.comMore information at www.villagersonline.com

A founder asks:"I want to focus on the future, but I don't trust the present to happen."It's a question that sits at the heart of scaling. As companies grow, founders are asked to spend less time executing and more time leading. But letting go isn't simply a mindset challenge—it often exposes deeper questions about trust, team capability, clarity, and leadership evolution.James Johnson and Freddie Birley unpack why founders become bottlenecks, how leadership must change between startup and scale-up, and why the answer is rarely "it's me" or "it's the team."More often, it's both.A conversation about vision, delegation, trust, and building a company that can grow beyond the founder.Send your questions to: hello@peer-effect.comMore from James:Connect with James on LinkedIn or at peer-effect.com

Discussing Conventional and Holistic Treatment FailuresFailure is something we rarely talk about openly in mental health treatment. But what happens when medications don't work the way people hoped? What happens when holistic approaches don't create immediate breakthroughs either? And what can both patients and practitioners learn from those experiences? In this episode, Emily and I have a deeply honest conversation about conventional and holistic treatment failures — and why these experiences, while painful, often become the beginning of deeper understanding and growth. We discuss:The real-world success rates of antidepressants and antipsychoticsWhy medication withdrawal can become increasingly complex over timeThe emotional toll of treatment resistance and failed approachesHow hope, persistence, and curiosity shape recovery outcomesThe difference between symptom reduction and true healingAnd why listening deeply to patients matters more than everThis conversation isn't about attacking conventional psychiatry or promising easy answers. It's about honesty.Learning.And recognizing that healing is often far more nuanced than we've been taught.Enjoy!
