In this episode, I answer a question from a man who is struggling to be vulnerable with his wife and feels defeated and angry by her criticisms of him. In this episode, we will learn about how society and culture impacts male vulnerability and how women can often have unrealistic expectations of men. This episode is about honoring the male experience and we'll discuss how to ask your partner to honor your feelings. Thanksgiving was a breeze! I had a plan and executed it perfectly! I thought that going into the Christmas and New Year holidays, that I'd be equally successful... that is, until last week happened. Yesterday was the peak of my pit... a pathetic day of gluttony, laziness, and binging. The result is adding a ninth tip the the eight I already had from getting through Thanksgiving. It's hard to believe that anyone could derail if they do these 9 tips. You can do them anytime, not just during the holidays, but since I know that the holidays can be difficult, sharing them now seems serendipitous and advantageous. I'm glad I learned this 9th tip now and not later. We still have this week to get through and can make any necessary adjustments and changes to ensure a successful holiday season. We now have a NEW SUPPORT GROUP that was inspired by this podcast and bears the same name, "Foodiction!" I extracted inspiration from James Clear's book, "Atomic Habits," as well. In his book he talks about focusing on who you want to become as opposed to what you want. I took this inspiration and created 4 legs for this group...becoming: God-centered, healthy, connected, and free! I'll be sharing recipes, meal ideas, tips, new episodes, resources, and humor. Meet a Cape Breton mother who helped set up a new support group for families of people who are living with a drug addiction. We’re only using her first name to protect the identity of her adult child and grandchildren. Heather shares her personal experience of life with a substance abuser.

The Alzheimer's Association is offering a new support group for caregivers of those with memory loss. Meeting 2nd Wednesdays from 2:30 - 4pm at BARN, the group offers a safe place for unpaid family caregivers to talk through issues and concerns and share coping mechanisms. Dementia caregivers -- of whom there are over 340,000 in Washington state alone -- tend to provide more time-intensive and extensive assistance, and experience more difficulty than other types of caregivers. They're also more likely to be helping with things like managing finances or communicating with health professionals. All that responsiblity can significantly raise stress levels, leading to increased incidence of illness in the caregivers themselves. In response to repeated requests, the Alzheimer's Association's Washington State chapter is establishing a caregiver support group on Bainbridge Island, led by trained facilitator Lori Gordon. In this podcast Lori explains how she came to her role, what some of the challenges are that memory loss caregivers face, and how a support group can offer new resources, practical solutions, and help to relieve caregiver stress.
