My guest today on Finding Freedom is Nick Freed. Nick has an incredible story to share! He'll be the first to admit that he made mistakes and deserved to go to prison, but once he saw the corruption and injustice in his own case his eyes were opened. When Nick was sentenced to 8 years in federal prison, he used the time to learn a skill. While in prison, Nick learned how to bake. He became a talented baker and shared what he learned with other inmates via a baking course that he developed. When Nick was released from prison he knew that he needed to use the skill he developed on the inside, to make a living on the outside. Inside Out Cookie was born! Gardner explores the connections between Michael Jordan and stealing the Declaration of Independence. National Treasure 3 is really creating a lot of buzz. Trav expands everyone’s vocabulary with another “Sentence of the Week” and that leads into an extended scat session. To cap off the show, Fair or Foul pays honor to the super-hero we deserve, Florida Man. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/we-are-live-with-chris-denman/message

The Alcohollywood podcast is back after a month hiatus! We're moving to new episodes every two weeks, but we'll still bring you all the goodies you've come to expect. For this episode, we usher in 2018 with the found-footage horror flick Apollo 18, about a group of NASA astronauts at the height of the Cold War launching a clandestine moon mission to spy on the Russkies. What they find, however, is more than they expected... and, given the film's found-footage conceit, kinda hard to see. Join us (along with returning guest Nick Freed) as we plant our flag in this forgotten relic of the post-Paranormal Activity era, and see if it's got the right stuff. Check out our custom cocktail and drinking game below! (Thanks to our sponsor Overcast as part of the Chicago Podcast Coop!) All of March, the Alcohollywood crew is blasting off to the Red Planet for five movies set on Mars! First up, Nick Freed of Consequence of Sound joins us to talk 2000’s Red Planet (namely, the movie where Val Kilmer threw a dumbbell at Tom Sizemore during filming). The Armageddon to Mission to Mars’ Deep Impact, Red Planet is a bizarre mix of 2001, Stealth and The Matrix in which a group of bro-y scientists crash-land on Mars to investigate a failed terraforming experiment, only to find themselves on the run against a killer military robot they decided to bring along with them! The whole thing is a glorious trainwreck, and we’re here to give you the custom cocktail and drinking rules you need! (Thanks to our sponsor Field Notes as part of the Chicago Podcast Coop!)
This week, returning guest Nick Freed joins us to talk 1988’s A Fish Called Wanda, the caper-comedy written by and starring John Cleese! When a group of thieves (Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Palin, Kevin Kline and Thomas Georgeson) successfully steal a buttload of diamonds, the four quickly begin turning on each other, eventually wrapping a sheltered, middle-aged barrister (Cleese) into the larcenous fold. Check out our custom cocktail and drinking rules as we talk Curtis’ femme fatale, Palin’s stammer, and whether or not Kline deserved to win the Oscar for his hammy role as Otto. This week on Alcohollywood, we (along with Nick Freed of Consequence of Sound) face our greatest challenge as we take on the aggressively weird, hyperkinetic 2011 high school horror meta-comedy Detention! Music video raconteur Joseph Kahn (of Torque…fame?) self-financed this off-kilter, virtually indescribable tale of high school students, horror movie slasher villains, time travel, alien vegetarians, body swaps, man-fly hybrids, and Dane Cook in his most restrained performance. With its incredibly schizophrenic pace and high ambitions, the movie throws everything at the wall and tries to see what sticks, creating a film that you will either absolutely love or absolutely loathe. Who loved it? Who hated it? Find out in our episode, and be sure to check out our custom cocktail and drinking rules!
Chicago dell'Arte's Nick Freed helps Dottore to plumb the mysteries of black holes. Also: Who is Lucius McGoocius? Where is the Library Ghost? And what is the Secret of the Ooze? Find out in this Tale of Two `tores!
