Colin reports back on his trip to London, On where theyve converted an apartment building into Supportive Housing Units. These units are designed for the homeless to have a safe place to recover after a visit to the hospital. We discuss the unfortunate reality where there is always someone that can make a group of people look bad, sort of like Dane Cook's bit, “Brian's Coming”. Is working at work always necessary? Does it always mean better work? We discussed a lot about work and jobs and terrible bosses and the book “Bullshit Jobs” by David Graeber. If your job disappeared, would the world notice? What does work-life balance mean to you, does your boss know too? All that and more on this week's Ep!CONTACT INFORMATIONEMAIL US // thewmipodcast@gmail.comINSTA // @WEMADEIT.PODCASTSUBREDDIT // r/WeMadeItPodcastTIKTOK // @WEMADEITPODCAST__________________________________________________RECORDING EQUIPMENTColin & Jenna both use this recording equipment: MAONO Microphone and HeadsetTHEME MUSICOur offspring and background music by:DJ QUADS - Bouquet of roses__________________________________________________SUPPORT & SHAREShare with your family and friends Listen to us on Apple podcast, Spotify, Breaker, Google podcasts, Overcast, Pocketcast & Radiopublic! Opening BanterHosts discuss their busy week, humorously referencing comedians Jim Gaffigan and Dane Cook about the chaos of parenting.Easter season is highlighted as a joyful but busy time.Transition to Office LifeDiscussion about returning to office work after a period of working from home. One host shares the challenges of balancing work with family life, especially with six young children and homeschooling demands. The other host enjoys a unique office setup with fellow Catholic businessmen, allowing for faith-based discussions and idea-sharing.Business and Catholic PrinciplesHosts explore how secular business podcasts often unknowingly adopt Catholic virtues like prudence and wisdom.Advice from a business perspective: surround yourself with the right people to change your life, and prioritize who you work with over the job itself.Reflecting on early career lessons:Taking risks is crucial for success.Money isn't everything once basic needs are met; pursuing it excessively can lead to disordered priorities.Hard work is valuable but ineffective if not directed toward the right goals.Pilgrimage PromotionPromotion of Select International Tours, a long-time sponsor offering pilgrimages to holy sites worldwide.Visit selectinternationaltours.com for details.High Levels of Manliness WarningA humorous callback to early episodes, warning listeners about the "high levels of manliness" on the show.Remembering Pope FrancisHosts reflect on Pope Francis' passing:Personal memory: Pope Francis kissing one host's daughter in 2015.Notable moments: His global benediction during COVID and the phrase "shepherds need to smell like sheep."Speculation about the timeline for electing a new pope, with a nod to historical conclave delays.Eucharistic Miracle StoryStory of Father Peter of Prague, a 13th-century German priest who doubted the Real Presence.During Mass in Bolsena, Italy, the host bled, leading to the establishment of the Feast of Corpus Christi by Pope Urban IV.St. Thomas Aquinas composed hymns like Tantum Ergo and Pange Lingua for the feast. The miraculous host is preserved in Orvieto, which the hosts will visit on their October pilgrimage with listeners.Spiritual Insights from Solid Virtue by Father BalakiusDiscussion of Solid Virtue by Jesuit priest Father Balakius, published by Coresu Press.Recollection:Defined as watchfulness and awareness of God's presence, akin to an "earthly heaven."Benefits: Prevents sin, reduces weariness, and fosters joy in God's love.Three sources: solitude, silence, and avoiding news (to curb curiosity and anxiety).Particular Examine:Focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of faults, not just external behaviors.Analogous to treating the cause of a disease, not just symptoms.Requires self-knowledge, possibly aided by friends, a spouse, or spiritual direction. After correcting major faults, shift to perfecting daily actions and cultivating virtues.Spiritual Warfare:Involves a firm resolution to amend faults, renewed twice daily (morning and noon).Resolutions should be short-term (half-day increments) to avoid discouragement.Twice-daily examination of conscience (noon and evening) to track progress.Keep a log of faults to compare daily and weekly progress, ensuring empirical improvement.Practical ApplicationsHosts emphasize the practicality of Balakius' advice, comparing it to business...

Fifteen years into stand-up comedy feels both like a lifetime and the blink of an eye. From my first nervous open mic at the Funny Bone in St. Louis at 19 to celebrating what Cactus Tate dubbed my "comedy quinceañera" on our current tour, the journey has been filled with unexpected twists, meaningful connections, and moments of pure joy.The road hasn't always been smooth. On our recent tour stops, I battled a nasty ear infection that left me feeling like I had "water in my head" – a condition that became contagious when Cactus and I shared a vape (lesson learned). The experience prompted me to quit nicotine entirely, something I wish I'd never started in the first place. If you've never smoked, trust me: stay right where you are. There are infinitely cooler ways to waste your time. What makes this milestone special isn't just the years accumulated, but the extraordinary experiences along the way. I've been fortunate enough to meet and work with comics who inspired me from the beginning – sitting down one-on-one with Dane Cook, being taken on the road by Nikki Glaser, and recently performing a guest spot for Rory Scoville in Houston. These moments remind me how lucky I am to live within this creative community, even when my credit score doesn't qualify me for the dirt bike I sometimes daydream about.Between apartment flooding disasters, cross-country tours, and philosophical musings about whether baby Jesus cried and needed diaper changes, this episode captures the beautiful chaos of a life dedicated to making people laugh. Looking back at that kid who first heard stand-up and thought "You knew about this and never told me?!", I can't help but feel profound gratitude for every step of this 15-year adventure.

Send us a messageHave you ever wondered how political figures and economic policies impact our daily lives, even as we juggle personal schedules and routines? While Gooch settles into his new job and Joe navigates weekends filled with exhaustion and moderate drinking, we embark on a journey through the political maze of Los Angeles. From Trump's influence in California to Governor Gavin Newsom's controversial decisions, we critique the complex political landscape and its effects on local residents. We also explore the irony of California's requests for federal assistance amidst their push for independence, making bold observations about political decisions and their real-world impacts.Economic turbulence in the U.S. is on everyone's minds, and we're not shying away from the tough conversations. Posed against a backdrop of layoffs at Southwest Airlines and skepticism over a $5,000 stimulus check, we question the political motives behind financial aid and decisions. As we examine the Democratic Party's inconsistencies, public sentiment toward figures like Trump and Musk takes center stage. Their roles in economic policies spark debates on the integrity and efficacy of political actions during financially challenging times. Through lively discourse, we navigate the intricacies of these economic and political conundrums.Amidst the heavy themes, we offer comedic relief with musings on atheism, movies, and more. From humorous takes on movie translations, like imagining a Latino version of "Child's Play," to clever stand-up bits by Dane Cook, we savor the quirks of language and beliefs. Our light-hearted exchanges on casual dinner plans and weather updates offer a refreshing pause, while the unexpected political divisions within the Catholic Church add another layer of intrigue to our discussion. Join us for a thoughtful blend of serious reflection and light-hearted humor that promises to entertain and inform.Support the showSupport our podcast paypal.me/theetalkerspodcastE-Mail: theetalkers4us@gmail.com https://theetalkers.buzzsprout.com/shareFacebookthee•talkers•podacast (@theetalkers_podcast) | Instagramtheetalkers_podcast1 - Twitch(3) Theetalkers1 (@theetalkers1) / TwitterThee Talkers Podcast: Unscripted - YouTubepatreon.com/theetalkerspodtiktok.com/@theetalkerspodcasttheetalkers.buzzsprout.comhttp://streaming.radio.co/s2bfbdb755/listen.m3u

Send us a textGerrit Elzinga fell in love with stand-up early and got onto his first stage at 15 years old. He's been telling jokes for almost 19 years, despite being only 33. He's the house emcee at Dr. Grin's Comedy Club in Grand Rapids, Mich., and is hoping to have his fourth album out this summer. He only spent a year in New York City, but it was long enough to grab an awkward moment with Jim Gaffigan. Also, he's got history with Dane Cook. Bobby tells a story about surfing with Dane Cook when comic LeMaire Lee walks in. Jay is wearing a western shirt because musician Marcus King joins in the fun. Bobby laments how cool Marcus is while LeMaire is soft and cuddly. Both Marcus and Bobby dress flamboyantly when they first lose some weight. Jay remembers when he first met Bob and he was the king of the college gigs. The collegiate audiences didn't care for Jay's brand of raunchy comedy. *To hear the full show to go www.siriusxm.com/bonfire to learn more FOLLOW THE CREW ON SOCIAL MEDIA: @thebonfiresxm @louisjohnson @christinemevans @bigjayoakerson @robertkellylive @louwitzkee @jjbwolfSubscribe to SiriusXM Podcasts+ on Apple Podcasts to listen to new episodes ad-free and a whole week early.
