On my dad's 90th birthday I find myself recalling the moment, in the wake of his passing, that I felt him near. Overlooking the beautiful waters of Sydney Harbor, I recall his coming to me across the miles, across time and space. And I remember how, on that same spot months prior, I had my first conversation with God--it was a pivotal experience. So in this podcast, I meld poignant memory and revelation, and the ways in which we can tether ourselves to the great Divine, and to those who now reside beyond that thin veil between this side and the other. Piano music is my dad's favorite: "Pachelbel's Canon in D" arranged and performed by Jessica Roemischer
This week on Pop Kitchen, Lesley and Jeff deep dive into the writing behind Maroon 5's latest release "Memories." They dissect the history behind the track's chord progressions coming from the infamous Pachelbel's Canon in D and also its use of other melodic inspiration from "No Woman No Cry." Jeff breaks down other pop hits from the past 20 years that have also used the same chord progressions and Lesley tries to find conceptually the common nostalgic thread between them all. Jeff and Lesley both discuss their own high school graduation songs and what they were thinking musically during that time in their own lives. With special phone in messages from ghosts of high school past. Also discussed - Maroon 5 - Adam Levine - Jonathon Bellion - Pachelbel's Canon in D - JKash - Vincent Ford - Oasis - Vitamin C --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/popkitchenpodcast/support
This podcast episode follows from the previous one--in which I recount the experience of the passing of my dear father. Since hearing of the news, each day, I go to my special place overlooking the ocean. There, I find myself closest to God and to my dearest dad. This time since my dad’s passing has been full of poignant reflection and revelation, and that place is where I go, to open my mind and heart to all that’s there lying beneath the surface, that’s asking to be revealed and understood. Music is Pachelbel's Canon, performed by Jessica Roemischer
This is not the podcast I’d planned to make. This is a eulogy - for my dad, my dear father. You see, a few days ago I found out that my dad had passed. Here, I share with you the moving, poignant and transformative experiences that occurred--overlooking the vast ocean--as I grieved my father's passing, and ultimately felt him near. Piano music is Pachelbel's Canon in D, arranged and performed by Jessica Roemischer
