This recording, made in 1971, is Radiodiffusion du Dahomey in Cotonou signing off for the day. While the signal level on 4870 kHz is only fair at best, the announcement in French can be heard giving frequency information followed by "Ici Cotonou, Radiodiffusion du Dahomey" just before the end of the recording. Reception location was Ancaster, Ontario, Canada and equipment used was a Hallicrafters S-52 and a long wire antenna. Also attached is a short recording from the 1990's of Radiodiffusion Nationale du Benin in French with a voice announcement and ID just prior to sign off. Also on 4870 kHz, but using a Panasonic RF-3100 receiver and a long wire antenna in Thamesford, Ontario, Canada.

Discipleship: The Meta-Practice of Reception

In the quiet moments between our asking and God's answering, between our reaching and His responding, lies one of faith's most transformative practices: Reception. Think of a child opening their hands to catch falling snow, or a gardener positioning a seedling to receive morning light—there's an art to being truly open to what God wants to give us. Reception isn't about sitting passively and hoping something happens; it's about training our hearts to recognize God's grace when it comes, often in ways we didn't expect or think to ask for. This Meta-Practice invites us to release our tight grip on how we think God should work and instead cultivate the beautiful discipline of receiving His wisdom, His timing, His provision exactly as He offers it. The Meta-Practices aren't about perfecting your spiritual performance or earning God's favor—it's about learning to recognize and receive the grace that's already flowing toward you in countless ways each day. For additional Discipleship & Meta-Practice resources, head to our website, www.portcity.church/discipleship.

The Joint Readiness Training Center is pleased to present the one-hundredth-and-fifteenth episode to air on ‘The Crucible - The JRTC Experience.' Hosted by MAJ Marc Howle, the Brigade Senior Engineer / Protection Observer-Coach-Trainer, and MAJ David Pfaltzgraff, BDE S-3 Operations OCT, from Brigade Command & Control (BDE HQ) on behalf of the Commander of Ops Group (COG). Today's guests are two senior members of JRTC that most units coordinate with but rarely see in-person: MAJ Jacquelin Marrero and MAJ Brandon Kilthau. MAJ Marrero is the G-4 Sustainment Officer at the Joint Readiness Training Center's headquarters. MAJ Kilthau is the S-3 Operations Officer for Plans / Exercise Maneuver Control. Plans/EMC plan, resource, and supervise the rotations from start to finish. (Think of the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz.)   This episode focuses on the often-overlooked but decisive phase of reception, staging, onward movement, and integration (RSOI) at JRTC. The discussion highlights recurring friction points as units arrive in Torbia—ranging from poor Soldier discipline and lack of acclimatization to the Louisiana heat, to wasted time at staging areas instead of conducting pre-combat checks (PCCs), pre-combat inspections (PCIs), and final system checks. The key message is mindset: leaders and Soldiers must treat RSOI as the beginning of combat, not downtime before the “real” fight. Units that operationalize RSOI—using the time to validate communications, establish sustainment accounts, rehearse movement, and begin integrating attachments—set the conditions for success. Those that view it as a last break or administrative hurdle often find themselves behind before entering the box.   The conversation also underscores the importance of coordination with the JRTC G4 to ensure prepositioned (“pre-po”) equipment is properly drawn, maintained, and matched to operational requirements. Many units fail to establish essential accounts for Class I, III, IV, V, and VIII supplies until arrival, creating preventable shortfalls. Best practices include using RSOI to rehearse convoy movements, validate communications architecture with available support, and build relationships with enablers or foreign attachments before moving to the training area. Leaders are encouraged to deliberately involve NCOs in these processes to extend command oversight, enforce discipline, and maximize use of time. Ultimately, the episode frames RSOI as more than an administrative requirement: it is the first tactical problem of the rotation, and units that succeed here carry momentum into the fight.   Part of S13 “Hip Pocket Training” series.   For additional information and insights from this episode, please check-out our Instagram page @the_jrtc_crucible_podcast   Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with the latest warfighting TTPs learned through the crucible that is the Joint Readiness Training Center.   Follow us by going to: https://linktr.ee/jrtc and then selecting your preferred podcast format.   Again, we'd like to thank our guests for participating. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to “reprove” sin, which is to expose sin and to set it right by bringing us to repentance, specifically to turn us from the sin of failing to recognizing Christ.  The ability both to proclaim the word and to receive are dependent on the presence of God's Spirit in us, and once the seed is planted it will produce change in us.  We are warned not to neglect the gift we are given and not to grieve the Spirit. We're back! And we're back for at least another year thanks to the legends at Rotacloud!!!And what a way to welcome us back with none other than the beyond epic, deep thinking and hilarious Gina Knight, Head of People at Flat Iron.Gina brings a big dose of warmth, humour, and honesty as she takes us from reception desk chaos to Ibiza career pact holidays, via Girl Guide hooch smuggling and a heated broccoli debate. This episode is proof that hospitality is never boring and that laughter really is part of the job description. What you'll hear in this episode:The Apron Rebellion – Why Flatiron's team said “thanks, but not good enough” and turned old aprons into hammocks, handbags and… dresses.Reception life uncensored – Gina and Phil swap war stories about demanding guests, room shortages, and the eternal question: how do you like your broccoli?Girl Guides & Hooch – Life lessons from leadership at 12 years oldThe Ibiza Pact – How Gina's “if you get a new job, I get a new job” deal ended in both friends quittingThe Beef Bank – Yes, Flatiron literally gives managers a monthly allowance called the Beef Bank. Spoiler: it doesn't involve storing steaks in a vault (Although Phil may have thought this)Key Takeaways:Listening gets results: Sometimes it's as simple as changing aprons or challenging your team to upcycle them into fashionHospitality teaches resilience: From riots to ridiculous complaints, it's all character building (and occasionally comedy gold).Neurodiversity is a strength: Gina shares how dyslexia and ADHD traits fuel her creativity and communication.Careers aren't straight lines: Say yes, pivot, Ibiza, repeat.Kindness still wins: Even after chaos, communities show up with coffee, cake, and compassion.Quotes we loved:“We redesigned the aprons… and the team went, thanks, but that's not good enough. Make them sustainable. Cue: hammocks, handbags, cushions, and dresses.”“At 12, I was responsible for six Girl Guides. I'd like to say I was sensible… but I did sneak in a couple of bottles of Hooch.”“How do you like your broccoli, Phil?”“I wanted to go to Ibiza, so I told my best mate we both had to get new jobs. We both did. Mission accomplished.”“I thought the Beef Bank was actual beef in a bank… but apparently, it's money you can spend on PlayStation vouchers or pillows.”A joyful, laugh-out-loud episode awaits about people, positivity, and why soggy broccoli nearly broke the internet.Show PartnersA big shout out to Today's show partner, RotaCloud, the people management platform for shift-based teams.RotaCloud lets managers create and share rotas, record attendance, and manage annual leave in minutes — all from a single, web-based app.It makes work simple for your team, too, allowing them to check their rotas, request holiday, and even pick up extra shifts straight from their phones.Try RotaCloud's time-saving tools today by heading to https://rotacloud.com/philThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podcorn - https://podcorn.com/privacy

"It's Garry Shandling's Show" was a sitcom that aired on Showtime from 1986 to 1990 where Garry Shandling plays a fictionalized version of himself living in a suburban condo. The series was notable for breaking television conventions at the time, with Shandling directly addressing the audience, acknowledging that he was in a sitcom, and routinely mocking the artificial structures of television comedy. Its theme song even playfully narrated itself (“This is the theme to Garry's show…”), further underlining its meta, self-aware style. Reception was largely positive, with critics praising Shandling's wit, originality, and the show's willingness to lampoon television itself. The series helped establish Garry Shandling as a unique comedic voice, paving the way for his later, even more acclaimed HBO series The Larry Sanders Show. In retrospect, It's Garry Shandling's Show is remembered as a cult classic that pushed sitcom boundaries and inspired a new generation of TV comedy writers. Will the S1E1 boys enjoy a sitcom poking fun at sitcoms? Listen as they deep dive the show's first episode, "The Day Garry Moved In". At its heart, discipleship is about learning to be friends with Jesus and letting Him teach us how to love well. It's not about having all the answers or getting everything right—it's about showing up with an open heart and curious mind. We practice preparing ourselves to meet with God, not by checking off spiritual to-do lists, but by simply getting ready to receive whatever He wants to give us. Instead of rushing to figure out what everything means or how to apply it immediately, we're learning to slow down, trust more, and let God's presence change us from the inside out. This kind of faith is less about performing and more about receiving, less about controlling and more about trusting.

Every wedding points to something greater. Beneath the music, the feast, and the vows is a longing for a love that lasts and a joy that never ends. Revelation 19 gives us a glimpse of that ultimate wedding: the marriage supper of the Lamb.   In this message, Stephen Bean (elder at CrossPointe) reminds us that the Bible's story ends not with despair, but with a feast. A Bride made ready. A Groom who has prepared a place. And an invitation that changes everything. If you've ever felt the ache of longing, loss, or waiting, this sermon offers a vision of the day when hope will not disappoint and joy will never run out.

"Corner Gas" is a sitcom that aired from 2004 to 2009 on CTV. The premise centers around Brent Leroy (played by show creator Brent Butt), who runs the town's gas station. Known for its dry humor and character-driven storytelling, the show avoids traditional sitcom laugh tracks and instead leans on witty dialogue and understated situational comedy rooted in Canadian small-town life. Reception for Corner Gas was overwhelmingly positive and became one of the highest-rated Canadian television comedies ever. Critics praised its relatable humor, and strong ensemble cast. Even after its finale, Corner Gas remains a beloved cultural touchstone, often cited as the Canadian equivalent of Seinfeld in its ability to find humor in everyday, “about nothing” situations. Discipleship invites us into the beautiful reality of being both friend and follower of Jesus, where we discover ourselves being gently trained and empowered by Him to love more fully. This journey isn't about perfecting spiritual techniques or earning our way to being "good Christians" through disciplined practice. Instead, spiritual disciplines serve as pathways that orient our hearts toward the Spirit's work, creating space for authentic encounters with God rather than mere religious performance. The four meta-practices—Preparation, Reception, Participation, and Reflection—offer us a framework for understanding why and how we engage in spiritual formation. These practices work together to form us not into perfect performers, but into people who are increasingly available to God's transforming presence and equipped to train others in this same journey of love.

COURTESY BAS A live, off-air, half-hour recording of the BBC World Service special Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast on 21 June 2024 beginning at 21:30 UTC. The broadcast, hosted by Cerys Matthews, featured messages and music for the 47 members of the staff of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) overwintering in Antarctica at the Rothera (Antarctic Peninsula) and King Edward Point and Bird Island (South Georgia) research stations. In addition to personal messages from family and friends, there were interviews with Professor Dame Jane Francis, Director of BAS; Olivier Hubert, a former chef at Rothera and the Halley VI research station; and Nadine Frontier, a marine biologist at King Edward Point; and Allie Clement, an ocean scientist at Rothera. The transmitter came on the air with a test tone (1108 Hz plus harmonics) about a minute before the program started. As sometimes happens, the first few words of the introduction were missed. The recording is of the transmission on 11685 kHz from the BBC's Woofferton, England, transmitting station. The sender had a registered power of 300 kW with antenna beam 182 degrees. The transmission was received on a Belka-DX receiver with a Tecsun AN-03L 7-metre wire antenna outdoors in Hanwell (just outside Fredericton), New Brunswick, Canada, in pseudo-synchronous (AM2) mode with 50 Hz - 2.7 kHz bandwidth. Reception was quite good with little noise or fading and very good signal strength. The additional parallel frequencies of 9585 kHz from Woofferton and 9870 kHz from Ascension were heard but not as well as 11685 kHz. There was a break in transmission at about the 21-minute mark in the recording for approximately one minute. A studio quality, slightly longer, podcast version is available on the BBC World Service website.
