Send us a textAfter years in the desert, the Israelites grumble again when water runs out. Moses loses his patience and strikes the rock instead of speaking to it, and God sadly tells him he will not lead the people into Canaan. Later, as the people complain, poisonous snakes sweep through the camp. God gives a surprising rescue plan. Moses lifts a bronze snake on a pole, and everyone who looks in faith is healed. This story points to Jesus, who would be lifted up on the cross so that everyone who believes in Him can live forever. Talk about it:Why was striking the rock a problem, and what can we learn about trusting God?What happened when people chose to look at the bronze snake? How does this story help you understand what Jesus did on the cross? What is one way you can choose faith when you feel afraid?Visit our website: kathyskidsstorytime.orgWe'd love to hear from you.To reach us quickly, click the “Send us a text” link at the top of the episode description.Or write to us by mail:Kathy's Kids StorytimePO Box 44270Charlotte, NC 28215-0043
This lecture looks at the evolution of Guantánamo Bay, first as a focal point of Haitian immigration in 1991 (Gitmo 1.0), to the more famous detention of terror suspects in 2002 (Gitmo 2.0), and back to immigration in 2025. We will explore how Gitmo 3.0 is probably already over, and how we were able to head it off so quickly through legal challenges. However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said the U.S. is “actively searching” for countries to accept migrants deported from the U.S., with both El Salvador and Rwanda under consideration. We will discuss how lessons from legal action around Guantánamo Bay might translate to other settings. This lecture was recorded by Clive Stafford Smith on 18th September 2025 at Barnard's Inn Hall, London.Clive is the Gresham Professor of LawHe is the founder and director of the Justice League a non-profit human rights training centre focused on fostering the next generation of advocates. Sarah became addicted to a drug for a year and — after deciding to stop — experienced a relapse that left her dissociative and suicidal. While her body drove dangerously, the conscious part of her negotiated with the suicidal part, obtained a tiny dose, and fell into a deep, peaceful sleep. She had an out-of-body, near-death experience in a bright, ethereal space where a voice of Oneness offered her the choice to stay or return; she reluctantly chose to go back. Sarah woke in an ambulance, initially disoriented and irritable, but ultimately felt lighter, calmer, and grateful. The experience transformed her beliefs: she now sees death as a transition into a state of pure peace and love and feels reassured that everything will be okay.

Jo-Ann D'Costa-Manuel is a charity pioneer. She received an OBE for her years of voluntary work raising the profile of hidden disabilities. She persuaded airlines to recognise green lanyards with sunflowers, as a symbol of a family member flying with a hidden disability. She was also behind the ‘quiet hour' in supermarkets to help children like her own son, who is autistic, and needs a quiet environment to be able to do a food shop.Jo-Ann now works for philanthropist John Caudwell to help raise money for children and youth projects, and she has just started her own podcast speaking to women over 40, called ‘It's Your Time.'Jo-Ann's son is now 16, and her daughter is 19. And to Jo-Ann's delight - and her daughter's horror - they are often mistaken for sisters!Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, produced by Claire Jones and post-production by Richard Jones. A couple of weeks ago, I was joined by Catherine McBride, OBE, to talk about her work and, in particular, her recent Substack series on the UK's Doom Loops, Debt Spirals and Dumb Taxes. Catherine is an expert in trade policy, taxation, commodities, agriculture, Brexit, and financial services regulation. She writes to offer a new perspective on traditional media's misdirection and spin. Catherine has over thirty years of experience in financial markets, as a member of the UK's Trade & Agriculture Commission, she has worked in think tank land, and her work has been widely published. She has worked for the Campaign for an Independent Britain, the Institute of Economic Affairs, and the Tax Reform Council, always striving to provide clarity on complex economic issues. Catherine does not come from an ivory tower; she approaches her work armed with a wealth of practical, real-world experience. She has worked in a variety of roles, ranging from Strategic Planning to trading financial derivatives. In our fascinating conversation, we discuss the state of the UK economy and how it led to the world of debt spirals and doom loops. What is the outlook for the upcoming Budget? What are our dumbest taxes? And when and how will this or a future UK government be required to roll back the size of the state? Finally, we discuss how the new world trade order under the emerging Trump tariff regime changes things, why most people don't really understand it, and how Britain can benefit from it. Spoiler alert, it already is. Catherine's perspective is as refreshing as it is challenging to today's widely accepted mainstream view of decline and despair. However, as always, none of what you are about to hear is any kind of advice, but hopefully you will find it informative and enjoyable. Please take independent financial advice before investing a penny of your money in these crazy markets. With that said, please enjoy my conversation with the maverick economist, Catherine McBride.
This jam-packed segment delivers not one but two unforgettable ghost stories. First, caller “J-Lo” from California recounts eerie experiences involving her young son. On one trip to a historic cemetery, he suddenly pointed out “people waving” from the overgrown graveyard — though no one else was there. Years later, after J-Lo's mother passed unexpectedly, her son calmly reported that grandma had come to visit him in his room, looking sad but unmistakably present. Then comes caller Steve with one of the strangest accounts we've ever heard: an astral projection experience. After smoking cannabis before bed, he dreamed of leaving his body, walking to the kitchen, pouring a glass of water, and placing it on his nightstand. The next morning — the same glass was there, half full. Was it sleepwalking, dream, or true astral travel? Tony, Carol, and Todd pick these stories apart with humor and depth, riffing on everything from grief signs to Folgers commercials to Little House on the Prairie references. It's a ride only Real Ghost Stories Online could deliver — equal parts chilling, absurd, and unforgettable. Do you believe in astral projection? Or was this all a dream? This week we rented the top 3 maths movies of all time – A Beautiful Mind, The Imitation Game and 3 Men and a Baby – all in order to be mathematically competent enough to share a pod with one of the world's greatest number nibblers, Marcus du Sautoy. So highly acclaimed and awarded, we could have filled the entire podcast by listing out his many achievements, Marcus is perhaps best known as a Professor in Mathematics, Fellow of the Royal Society and Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University. But, as well as being one of the very smartest people on the planet, he's also one of the most engaging and enlightening speakers on the unexpected stories to be found in numbers, having written for several national newspapers and appeared on a number of mathematically-inclined TV shows including Mind Games, The Story of Maths and The Code (not to be confused with The Cube). By now you've probably run out of fingers to tally up all the brilliant things he's done, so we shall just wrap up by saying he's also the author of a series of superb books examining the relationship between maths, creativity, music, games and more – including Blue Prints, The Music of Primes and The Creativity Code. (Basically, the fact that it took us all this time to mention he's also an OBE tells you all you need to know. He's an impressive dude.) In an episode where Giles wears his disappointing GCSE results like a hi-vis vest of inadequacy, we ponder the search for meaning in numbers and how the stories behind them can help shape ideas and solve problems. testi convergono sull'argomento del Libro dei Morti Egiziano, o "Libro per uscire nel giorno", identificato come una raccolta di formule magiche e religiose per guidare l'anima (Ka) del defunto nell'aldilà.

Ko jo objamem, me poboža.

At thirteen, during gym class in May 1961, James leaned against a fence, looked at the sky, and suddenly shifted into a profound mystical state. He experienced a white light, an indescribable oneness, and unconditional love. He felt outside his body, floating above the schoolyard, and realized he could choose to stay or return. Choosing to come back, he awoke to his teacher and classmates gathered around his body. The experience left him certain that everything is one, that God is present in all, and that love is the essence of existence.

Hello and welcome to the final episode of season 18. 18!!!! My guest today is the cook, Thomasina Miers. Despite being taught to cook as a child, Tommi didn't really embrace her love of food until her late 20s when a trip to Mexico inspired a love of Mexican food that was to change her life. In 2005, she became the first person ever to win Masterchef and two years later she co-founded the successful Mexican restaurant chain Wahaca. Tommi has also cheffed in Michelin star kitchens, set up Chefs in Schools and also works with the soil association. She was awarded an OBE in 2019 for her services to the food industry. She has also written nine cookbooks, the latest of which is Mexican Table which celebrates the flavour, culture and ingredients of the country she loves and has been visiting for over 30 years. Tommi and I talked feeling a failure in your twenties, being diagnosed with ADHD in your 40s, finding herself through cooking, how she learnt to stop using work to self medicate, recovering from the perimenopause crash, how a midlife family flit to Mexico rebuilt her and why she hopes she'll still be in hot pants at 80. CW alcoholism mental health and passing reference to suicide * You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at The Shift bookshop on Bookshop.org, including Mexican Table by Thomasina Miers as well as the book that inspired this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too, by me. * If you enjoyed this episode and you fancy buying me a coffee, pop over to my page on buymeacoffee.com. • And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including exclusive transcripts of the podcast, why not join The Shift community, come and have a look around at www.theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com • The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Juliette Nicholls at Pineapple Production. Candice M. Sanderson “Candice Sanderson takes us on a journey that in times past was reserved only for initiates laboring in the secret confines of mystery schools. But this book demonstrates that what was once available only to a select few, is now happening spontaneously to ordinary (and sometimes reluctant) people. It is a harbinger of things to come. If you want an advance glimpse into the next stage of human evolution, read this book!" ~ Paul Rademacher, former Executive Director of The Monroe Institute and author of A Spiritual Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe.https://candicesanderson.com/about.html

Engineering has moved inside the body to innovate like never before. In neuro-science, brain implants can provide ‘psychic' communication for people with locked-in syndrome. In medication a new technology aims to deliver chemo therapy and other drugs directly to the parts that need them by bubbles in the blood stream. And ingestible electronics are being made to fight disease by sending antibody-directing messages straight from the gut to the brain. The BBC and the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 have come together to stage a special event. Presenter Caroline Steel is joined by Tom Oxley, professorial fellow at Melbourne Medical School; Eleanor Stride, OBE, professor of Biomaterials at the University of Oxford; Khalil Ramadi, director of the Ramadi Lab for Advanced Neuro-engineering and Translational Medicine in Abu Dhabi; Assistant Professor of Bioengineering, New York University.
