Drew (Spin Rate, @DrewGROF) joins Thomas to talk about Hop Along and more specifically, their third album, "Painted Shut." Aside from the record, they discuss hardcore canon, the Toronto Blue Jays' season, and sharing music in modern times.
On today's episode I talk to solo artist and principal songwriter of the band Hop Along, Frances Quinlan. Growing up in Boyertown, PA, Frances recorded their first album as Hop Along during their freshman year of college at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Hop Along soon became a full band and with their third album Painted Shut, the group signed to Saddle Creek. Their fourth album Bark Your Head Off, Dog was met with near-universal acclaim, and just one year ago right before the pandemic, the label released Frances' solo album Likewise, which is just wonderful! On today's episode Dan and Laurin discuss Dan's recent visit to L.A, his attempted infiltration of Scientology and his sneek-in to watch his favourite comic. The two as per usual talk about the tunes they were spinning while on a 2 week recording break (Laurin hates music) including Carly Rae Jepsen's acceptance of a sword and Hop Along's album Painted Shut. Fans of Shaking Through will remember our episode with Hop Along in Spring 2013. As the band’s front person, Frances is both relatable and enigmatic all at once. Since that episode released, they’ve signed a record deal with Saddle Creek Records and released the long awaited LP, “Painted Shut“.
