Rickey Henderson was left fielder who played for nine teams from 1979 to 2003, including four separate tenures with his original team, the Oakland Athletics. Nicknamed the "Man of Steal", he is widely regarded as baseball's greatest leadoff hitter and baserunner. He holds the major league records for career stolen bases, runs, unintentional walks and leadoff home runs. At the time of his last major league game in 2003, the ten-time American League (AL) All-Star ranked among the sport's top 100 all-time home run hitters and was its all-time leader in walks. In 2009, he was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame on his first ballot appearance.Henderson holds the single-season record for stolen bases (130 in 1982) and is the only player in AL history to steal 100 bases in a season, having done so three times. His 1,406 career steals is 50% higher than the previous record of 938 by Lou Brock. Henderson is the all-time stolen base leader for the Oakland Athletics and previously held the New York Yankees' franchise record from 1988 to 2011. He was among the league's top ten base stealers in 21 different seasons.Henderson was named the AL's Most Valuable Player in 1990, and he was the lead-off hitter for two World Series champions: the 1989 Oakland A's and the 1993 Toronto Blue Jays. A 12-time stolen base champion, Henderson led the league in runs five times. His 25-year career elevated Henderson to the top ten in several other categories, including career at-bats, games, and outfield putouts and total chances. His high on-base percentage, power hitting, and stolen base and run totals made him one of the most dynamic players of his era. He was further known for his unquenchable passion for playing baseball and a buoyant, eccentric, and quotable personality that both perplexed and entertained fans. Once asked if he thought Henderson was a future Hall of Famer, statistician Bill James replied, "If you could split him in two, you'd have two Hall of Famers."

It is put up or shut up time for the Toronto Blue Jays. It's been a while since we've had these two on the show together - DAVE HODGE & DAVE PERKINS join Bob and John to discuss the Toronto Blue Jays and their chances of making the playoffs with only 6 games left in the season. With a Blue Jays Wild Card appearance now questionable, the foursome wonder what the Jays need to do in these final 6 games to make it in. DO the need to win out? or is there room for error. The four also compare the Jays to teams that have played consistent baseball this year - the biggest trend? Roster depth. To end the show, we debate on what makes an MVP. Simply playing good baseball? or does his team need to actually be good?
6 games remain. When the dust settles tonight the Toronto Blue Jays will be 1 game back of either Boston or New York for the 2nd Wild Card spot. Justin and Patrick are back to break down a 3-4 week, the upcoming series against New York, and what needs to happen in order for the Blue Jays to play in the postseason. Springer has heated up and the rotation got back on track over the weekend. Vladdy and Bo didn't have the best weekend, and Marcus Semien tied the single season MLB record for HR by a second baseman with 43. Every win gets you one step closer to playoff baseball, and every loss hammers the nail in the coffin. Meaningful baseball is wonderful and insanely stressful. Enjoy it.
DAN SHULMAN, voice of the Toronto Blue Jays, joins the podcast to discuss everything Jays. The three chat about the recent injuries to some of the teams key players, who they will call up and who has to step up in these pivotal final 9 games of the season. We also talk about George Springers progression - when is he going to be healthy? - as well as what Toronto needs to do to make sure they secure a seat as a wild card. To cap the show, Dan, Bob and John talk about the inevitable contract issues that they will face. Is it too much to ask for to keep Robbie Ray AND Marcus Semien?
Harrison Rubenstein takes a look at the AL & NL Wild Card races to see which teams are in the hunt. In the American League, the Yankees & Blue Jays try to continue to make a run for the Red Sox who seem to be hitting their stride at the perfect time and have the number 1 Wild Card spot. Meanwhile in the National League, the Cardinals aim to close out the Wild Card race as they are enjoying a 10 game win streak. Scott Ferrall talks about all the things that Evander Kane is having with his ex-wife accusing him of all kinds of horrible things and goes through the MLB scores and how they affect the MLB Playoff races including the Padres steep decline
The Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions are both looking for their first win tonight and this one is a lock. The Texas Rangers face the New York Yankees tonight and this one comes with a warning on betting the last few weeks of the season and falling into the "must-win" trap. The Toronto Blue Jays are going up against the Tampa Bay Rays and this one should be a blowout. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
