On this episode of Wild & Uncut, we sit down with the President & Founder of National Rifle League Hunter Series, Travis Ishida. Being a first generation hunter, it is easy to hear the passion he has for the sport. Being a proficient marksman and understanding what it takes to be successful in his pursuit to provide meat for his family, Travis started NRL Hunter in hopes of other hunters/shooters wanting to take their skills to the next level. Whether you're a first time competitor or it's your hundredth match, the NRL Hunter uses the excitement and stress of competition to create realistic shooting scenarios that will test the marksman and their knowledge of their equipment. The goal of "education through competition" is to help make you the most effective version of yourself; the NRL will surely do just that! NRL's mission statement: Hunting isn't merely a hobby or pastime, it is our way of life. For us, it is about community, education, and a strong foundation of ethical harvesting. It is the desire to be the most proficient hunter possible, it is this passion that has driven us to develop the NRL HUNTER series of matches. Travis is a great person and always a joy to talk with...we even took a little time to talk about the most delicious part of the hunt...the wonderful meat we harvest and bring home to enjoy all year long. Lots of great discussion, you'll enjoy it! ********************************************************************* PRESENTED BY: Ruger: http://ruger.com/ Nightforce Optics: http://nightforceoptics.com/ Dead Down Wind, Trophy Taker Rests, Ramcat Broadheads, Rack One & Tink's: https://www.arcushunting.com/ Safari Club International: https://safariclub.org/ Bear Archery: https://beararchery.com/ Trophy Ridge: https://trophyridge.com/category/sights onX maps: https://www.onxmaps.com/ Kifaru International: http://kifaru.net/ Kryptek: https://kryptek.com/ Rocky Mountain Hunting Calls: https://buglingbull.com/ Tetra Hearing: https://tetrahearing.com/ Wilderness Athlete: https://wildernessathlete.com/ CONTACT KRISTY Website: http://www.pursuethewild.com Pursue The Wild Store: https://pursue-the-wild.myshopify.com/ Social Media Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KristyTitus/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kristytitus/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/KristyTitus Subscribe to Pursue The Wild with Kristy Titus https://www.youtube.com/user/PursuetheWild

This week we are joined with the designer and founder of Ramcat Broadheads, Brett Fulton. Brett has been designing and building broadheads for most of his adult life, and knows what it takes to make an effective, accurate broadhead. This week we talk about how Brett designed and developed his first broadhead, the Smoke Mechanical; and how that original design transformed into Ramcat. Arcus Hunting product review with Lucas Mashtare – Arcus Hunting, LLC is an acquisition and organic growth platform seeking to build a strong portfolio of leading brands in the bowhunting and archery consumables and accessories category. Under its brands – Tink’s®, Dead Down Wind®, Obsession Bows, Ramcat® Broadheads and Trophy Taker® – Arcus markets and manufactures a range of leading deer lures, attractants, scent control products, and premium bows. Dead Down Wind – Dead Down Wind’s focus has always been to produce the safest, most effective products possible by using science as our foundation. We are driven to develop products capable of eliminating the toughest and widest range of odors. Contrary to what a competitor may claim, there isn’t a single product that is effective on EVERY type of odor. From the beginning, Dead Down Wind has led the way, using real science and developing specific products to control the odors that matter. Scent prevention is a process and a routine. Hunters plan and strategize each and every season on how to go undetected for that opportunity of a lifetime. The goal being to reduce your odor signatures to the lowest possible level. Dead Down Wind uses enzymes – a natural catalyst for change. They break down odors at a molecular level, a process we call Enzyme ScentPrevent® or ESP. The use of enzymes allows Dead Down Wind products to eliminate a wider range of odors. We call this technology 3D+ Broad Spectrum. While some might have you believe the only thing you need to concern yourself with is bacteria related to perspiration, that is simply not the case. Hunters carry many foreign odors to the field that can alert whitetail or other big game animals. The science behind a big game animal’s nose will tell you it’s looking for any telltale odor that might give them an idea of who or what is in the area. That’s why we specifically formulate a broad range of odor control, not just one type of bacteria. Dead Down Wind does not offer cover scent. Scent prevention is a discipline and process that requires a complete system that focuses on our three-phase system – Laundry, Hygiene and Field – which actively work together to kill bacteria, not just covering odor but annihilating right at the source. Tink’s – Established in 1972, Tink’s® has been the number one brand, and number one performing line in deer scents and lures. Trusted by generations of hunters for nearly 50 years, Tink’s® lures meet the needs of every phase of the hunt along with a broad variety of dispenser options. Tink’s® natural whitetail lures are certified CWD-free, extensively tested for effectiveness, and simple to use. Whether you’re hunting trophy whitetails, black bears, big bull elk, monster moose, pigs or predators, we have a product to help you succeed. Proven Innovation. Proven Results. Obsession Bows – Obsession crashed the established bow industry party with designs by engineers obsessed with perfection for those who refuse to settle for yesterday’s technology. Hunters, competitors, and enthusiasts of every caliber have something to gain from an Obsession, from bragging rights in camp, a spot on the medal stand, or winning the backyard bet. Based in a one-stoplight town in the state of Georgia, our small-town values center on family, friends, and a never-ending commitment to building the very best products for every caliber of archer. We understand bows are a significant investment for our customers and we value the trust you place in us when you purchase an Obsession. Our drive to excel, to “Change Or Get Left Behind,” enables us to continue to defy expectations and be the technological leader of the industry. Ramcat – The Ramcat is a wickedly accurate, absolutely devastating broadhead. Much more than a cut-on-contact or chisel-tip broadhead, the tip of every Ramcat is a purpose-driven, technically superior design with a multi-faceted focus: Concave scoops create an airfoil that eliminate wind planing and forces air to slip over the ferrule and arrow shaft for best-in-class accuracy and impact energy. On impact, the airfoil creates an outward force on flesh, pushing it away from the shaft for exceptional penetration and a massive wound channel. This performance is achieved with any recurve, compound or crossbow, at any speed. Today’s lineup of Ramcat broadheads are the most advanced, best performing, best value for bowhunters. Hits Like A Ram, Cuts Like A Cat! Trophy Taker – For twenty years Trophy Taker has built a reputation for easy-to-install and silent arrow rests that are tough enough for hardcore hunters, with the reliability that sends competitive archers to the medal stand. A never-ending commitment to excellence is the driving force behind Trophy Taker and we back it with a lifetime warranty. Today, the quality and performance of Trophy Taker has expanded to include more vital accessories for today’s performance archer. Everything we build is designed to perform – it’s just that simple. Perform, don’t fail, so you can achieve. What began in the rugged mountains of Montana is now an attitude shared across the country: don’t settle for compromises, there is a better way. We think our customers agree, You Can Settle, or You Can Be a Trophy Taker!

"It stood up and he was dumbfounded. People came out and he was trying to warn them. He was waving to get their attention. They were waving like they didn't know what he was talking about. By then this thing just pounced them and mauled them." — Dave Jones, North American Dogman Project Co-Founder This is the second of a series about Dogman. To hear the first show, listen to Episode 36 with Dark Waters, the King of Horror. What’s creepier, fantastical tales of Dogman, a monster lurking in the woods? Or forensic evidence of a creature proven to be catalyst of misery, maulings and murder? It's gotta be the evidence. The North American Dogman Project is here to say wait a second, maybe it does. They have investigated some horrifying tales. Stories of maulings, slaughters, horrific experiences that will make your blood run cold. I contacted Dave Jones and Joedy Cook out of the blue. I mean, out of nowhere. These guys could have ignored me. I’m an outsider and admittedly not necessarily a believer. But they agreed to come on and do a show to talk about what they’re doing. These guys are really interesting. They didn’t run from a single question. They hit them head on. And they’re open to criticism. I'm not going to let Dogman, or any man, keep me from the woods. And I don’t expect you will either. I bring you these conversations to expand your mind, so we can all learn and to gain new perspective. "His brother on the front of the boat is screaming, and falling back towards him in the boat. The front half of this alligator is flying through the air at them. The other half is on the bank. This head came out of the brush and growled at him." — Dark Waters This is the first of a series about Dogman. To hear the second show, see Episode 37 with the North American Dogman Project. Tonight, I bring you something different. This is something pulled from the shadows of the deepest, dankest and darkest parts of the woods. It's not just tales from the coldest and darkest of waters. We’re talking to the king of nightmares, an orator of real horrors, Dark Waters himself. I suspect Dark Waters is new to many of you. But among those who follow the paranormal will know—Dark Waters is a modern day storytelling legend. Dark Waters is conversationalist. An orator. A collector of tales that he believes to be true. We’ll hear about how he comes about these people, these horrifying experiences, and how he curates them down to the ones that have no room for doubt. These are real experiences. His process has taken thousands of phone calls. Hundreds of hours. And it’s only made possible by the memory of a man who is clearly gifted in the art of storytelling. Tonight may or may not make you a believer. But I promise it’ll sufficiently creep you out. "This apparel represents what I stand for. There's that, and we're actively trying to promote conservation efforts." — Bud Fisher, Co-Founder, Catchin' Deers How many times have you and your buddies had a crazy idea, and said, “Somebody should do that. People would love it.” Typically, that conversation is where good ideas go to die. But not with today’s guest. Today we have Bud Fisher on the show. Many of you know his name, but if you don’t, you probably have heard of those Catchin’ Deers guys. The fellas who took an idea at hunt camp and turned it into a full fledged business. And they’re crushing it. Catchin’ Deers swept through social media a few years ago, and what started off as a few trucker hats turned into a business. Now, these guys aren’t all one-liners and a ridiculous logo. They’re smart. They know how to run a business. And they know how to market a product. We’ll dig into all of that today. If you’ve heard Bud in the past, stay tuned. I’ve heard those shows, too. I did my homework to ensure we tell just enough of how this thing got started, but we’ll hear him tackle a few new questions. Oh, and, I’ve got a surprise guest at the end. A fella who most Catchin’ Deers fans will recognize immediately. Let’s just say I’m getting some archery tips from a seasoned pro. “I’m happy to put my neck on the line. I get a lot of anti-hunter threats. I got a $250,000 bounty on my head. But it’s something that has to be talked about.” — Olivia Opre, Hunting Consultant & Mrs. America Contestant Imagine the amount of hate you must have in your heart to put a bounty on someone’s head. You must have really pissed somebody off, right? Today’s guest knows that kind of hate. And she knows it well. Olivia Opre has traveled the world hunting hippos, lions, elephants, and dozens of other species. It’s easy for the media to take that narrative and make her into a trophy hunter. It happens a lot. In fact, it’s happen so much, that Olivia has gotten really good at responding to this kind of sensationalism. In fact, she’s so good, I swear you might think some of these answers are scripted. They’re not. She’s just that confident, and that good. Olivia understands the complexities of hunting. And man, she has an interesting background. Like how she was once a Mrs. America contestant. “If you do not know something well, if you don’t have a sense of some place, you are not going to protect it.” — Mahting Putelis, Founder of Hunt to Eat Many American patriots and outdoorsmen embrace the Gadsden flag’s message of “Don’t Tread on Me.” I do, too, but sometimes we could use a reminder that the best defense, may actually be a good offense. In regards to telling our story of hunting in today’s world, we have to be careful when taking a Don’t Tread on Me philosophy. This same mentality is totally appropriate when toppling an oppressive government dictating your religious freedoms. It’s less so when used to defend your hunting privilege. A good offense is knowing that our story could offend voters who could take that privilege away from us, so we should do our best to stay on the offensive, doing good work to earn points for hunting. Take people into the locker room to show the camaraderie and fellowship of your hunting trip. Talk about what it’s like to have the world wake up around you, and to see the woods as the wolf does. Share your table fare both directly, by cooking for people who are curious about wild game, and also through your social media channels. All of these activities earn points for our lifestyle. I’m not advocating for never showing a trophy shot. But I am saying when you do, make sure you’re not just going through the motions. Think about the content. Remind yourself that your audience matters, no matter how many followers you have. We’re going to dive deeper into this conversation today. We’ll actually be talking about a lot of different things. Today’s guest is Mahting Putelis, the founder of Hunt to Eat. Mahting would be considered new to hunting and the hunting industry to some. He’s outspoken by nature, he’s ruffling some feathers for sure. He makes some from the old guard uncomfortable. He doesn’t care about hunting’s societal norms established thus far and is willing to speak up with he disagrees. “We’ve had 4 young widows at these camps. And they want to take their kids hunting but they’ve lost their mentor. They come to us for basic skills so they can pass on to their kids and pass on the skills.” - Brittany Boddington Today I have a couple of women who see the hunting industry landscape, and they are getting involved in an interesting way. In this episode, we chat with Brittany and Shannon from She Hunts Skills Camp. They’re empowering women to sharpen their hunting skills in a camp that is just for women. The guests go through real, legitimate training with industry professionals to learn to shoot, stalk, butcher, the whole 9 yards. I was expecting to hear about how Shannon and Brittany had impacted people’s skill sets. What I wasn’t prepared for are how this camp has actually impacted people’s lives. It’s clear they’re making waves with the women who attend. I commend them for that and hope they see many years of success going forward with this. Hunting isn’t just man’s nature. It’s mankind’s.
