The late Peter Fenwick, PhD, is coauthor with his wife, Elizabeth, of The Truth in the Light, The Art of Dying, The Hidden Door: Understanding and Controlling Your Dreams, and Past-Lives: An Investigation Into Reincarnation Memories. Puedes amar a Dios, conocer su Palabra, servir en la Iglesia y aun así descubrir que hay áreas de tu vida que todavía reaccionan desde las pasiones y no desde el Espíritu. Presenta allí una larga lista de dificultades y triunfos para mostrar lo que significa ser seguidor de Cristo y ministro de Dios. En resumen, enumera situaciones difíciles (2 Cor. 6:4, 5), virtudes de carácter (vers. 6), equipamiento para el ministerio (vers. 7) y vicisitudes del ministerio (vers. 8-10). Después de instruir a los miembros de Corinto para que se reconciliaran con Dios, Pablo los exhorta a vivir una vida santa separándose de la influencia dañina de los incrédulos y de la impureza (vers. 14-17). Lee 2 Corintios 6:11-7:1. Según este pasaje, ¿en qué consiste una vida santa? Pablo enfatiza en este pasaje la importancia del afecto y el amor dentro de la iglesia (1 Cor. 6:11-13). La evidencia de que las personas se han reconciliado con Dios es que buscan la reconciliación entre sí. De hecho, se convierten, por así decirlo, en agentes de reconciliación horizontal. A continuación, encontramos un llamamiento a la santidad mediante seis exhortaciones, a saber: (1) «No se unan en yugo desigual con los incrédulos» (2 Cor. 6:14); (2) «Salgan de en medio de ellos» (vers. 17); (3) «Apártense» (vers. 17); (4) «No toquen lo impuro» (vers. 17); (5) «Yo los recibiré»; (6) «Y seré su Padre»; (7) «Ustedes serán mis hijos e hijas» (vers. 16, 17, 18). Nota que las cuatro promesas de 2 Corintios 6:16 son la base de los tres imperativos de 2 Corintios 6:17 (ver la expresión «por lo cual» al principio de 2 Cor. 6:17). En su Sermón del Monte, después de especificar lo que se debe hacer a fin de ser benditos, y lo que no se debe hacer, dice: "Sed, pues, vosotros perfectos, como vuestro Padre que está en los cielos es perfecto". La perfección, la santidad, nada menos que eso, les otorgará el éxito en la aplicación de los principios que les ha dado. Sin la santidad, el corazón humano es egoísta, pecaminoso y vicioso. La santidad hará que su poseedor sea fructífero y que abunde en buenas obras. Nunca se cansará del bien hacer, ni tratará de escalar posiciones en este mundo, sino que esperará ser elevado por la Majestad del cielo cuando exalte a sus santificados en su trono... La santidad de corazón producirá actos rectos. Así como Dios es puro en su esfera, el hombre ha de ser puro en la suya. Y será puro si Cristo se forma en su interior, la esperanza de gloria; porque imitará la vida de Cristo y reflejará su carácter. La dignidad principesca del carácter cristiano brillará como el sol y los rayos de luz del rostro de Cristo se reflejarán sobre aquellos que se han purificado a sí mismos como él es puro. La pureza del corazón conducirá a la pureza de vida (Dios nos cuida, 2 de enero, p. 10). Nuestro corazón es malo y no lo podemos cambiar... La educación, la cultura, el ejercicio de la voluntad, el esfuerzo humano, todos tienen su propia esfera, pero para esto no tienen ningún poder. Pueden producir una corrección externa de la conducta, pero no pueden cambiar el corazón; no pueden purificar las fuentes de la vida. Debe haber un poder que obre en el interior, una vida nueva de lo alto, antes de que el hombre pueda convertirse del pecado a la santidad. Nadie recibe la santidad como derecho de primogenitura o como obsequio de parte de algún otro ser humano. La santidad es el don de Dios por medio de Cristo. Los que reciben al Salvador llegan a ser hijos de Dios. Son sus hijos espirituales, nacidos de nuevo, renovados en justicia y verdadera santidad. Sus mentes son cambiadas. Con visión más clara contemplan las realidades eternas. Son adoptados en la familia de Dios, y llegan a adquirir su semejanza, transformados por su Espíritu de gloria en gloria. Después de albergar un amor supremo por sí mismos, llegan a albergar un amor supremo por Dios y por Cristo...
