Why is it important to design events with empathy? Actually, let's not start there. Why is empathy important in general? And why should we, as event profs, pay any mind to it? Well, simply put, because we're humans. Because we're putting together experiences for people, and we want them to have an amazing experience. And this seems like something automatic, something we don't have to think about because we just make it happen by default. Right? Unfortunately, not quite. So we decided to open up the conversation surrounding empathy, and designing events with empathy. The Event Brew crew is here to discuss the topic in-depth, share their opinions, and share their tips. And if you find this something that is lacking in the industry, then wait no longer to join Dustin Westling, Nick Borelli, and Thuy Diep. Press play and let's turn up the empathy!

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukah, Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa or just great times with friends and family – “Tis the season to be jolly” - Right? Unfortunately for the Transgender community, amidst the holiday festivities, is the glaring reality that for transphobic hate, bigotry and violence it’s just another day. All of us, of course, want to flourish and be successful in every aspect of our life. Right? Unfortunately, in this day and age, it is a common misconception that in order to be a better people, in order to BE more, we need to DO more. And the result? Well, we spread ourselves thin and then wonder why we aren't more productive. What if, instead of resolving to do more with our time, we try to do less? What kind of a positive effect could that have on us? Maybe we need to focus our energy into taking things off our plate rather than putting more things on. We all must come this realization: while many ideas and opportunities that cross our path charm us with their novelty, they are actually the arch-enemy of achieving our goals and dreams. New ideas and pursuits can sometimes be beneficial to us, but many times are just distractions that steer us off-course. So, how do we say "no" when we're faced with a variety of tasks that look appealing but might actually pull us in the wrong direction? Well, that's exactly what I talk about on this episode of Life Made Simple. Know anyone would love listening to the show? KaliSara and RevKess tackle the three forbidden topics at work and social gatherings: politics, religion, and sex. Long time listeners will not be surprised by this social faux pas. Work would be boring without a bit of controversial conversation and what good is a party if you can't have a little fun? Right? Unfortunately, politics this year have been far from. Oh, who are we kidding!? It has been sometime since politics were actually fun to talk about, more like they are a pain in ther rear and must be talked about so we don't get lost and confused with what our elected and appointed officials are doing. Take the wording on the 2016 Nebraska ballot regarding the death penalty. It reads as if voting yes would repeal the death penalty - it's already been repealed. The ballot is asking citizens to vote yes to keep that repeal or vote no to bring back the death penalty. Confusing language abounds on ballots all over the country. Religion keeps tangling with politics, and the US is no expection to that. The fight against Sharia law (Muslim laws) infiltrating various city, state, and even federal levels has resulted in Christian laws becoming the norm in some of those areas. There is no difference between the two - other than the religion. Sex, well sex on the otherhand is almost always fun to talk about. You'll just have to listen in and see where your hosts get to with that topic. While you are at it, pay attention for KaliSara's News in a Flash.
