On The Left Hook, host Mark Bland opened the show by tapping into a feeling many Americans already have: when Donald Trump talks about being a "dictator," it no longer sounds like a joke. Bland argued that the comments feel revealing, not playful, and stressed that dictatorship has never been part of the American tradition or something the public has ever wanted. Bland connected that rhetoric to Trump's governing style, describing it as transactional and self-serving. He pointed to Trump bypassing Congress, using foreign policy as leverage for personal or political gain, and benefiting financially through branding and crypto ventures—reportedly up to $1.5 billion—while in office. In Bland's view, the line between public duty and private profit has all but disappeared. Turning to public sentiment, Bland cited new polling showing roughly 70% of Americans believe the country is out of control, including many Republicans and Trump voters. He framed that frustration around everyday realities: high prices, unaffordable housing, broken economic promises, and fear sparked by aggressive immigration enforcement. The moment that grounded the segment came when Bland shared a personal story: his daughter, usually uninterested in politics, texted him a clip of Trump and asked why a president would talk this way. Bland said that moment underscored what's at stake—young people are watching, learning, and forming opinions in real time. His warning was simple: Americans are exhausted by chaos and are craving leadership that steadies the country instead of rattling it.
Jack Smith's testimony so far. Donald's insane Davos remarks. Donald confused Greenland and Iceland, then Karoline Leavitt mixed them up in her response. Donald can't pronounce nation involved in a war he allegedly solved. Donald's Greenland/NATO deal is yet another re-brand of something that already existed. Prediction markets are ripe with insider trading. The bruise is back – but on his left hand. ICE memo says agents can enter homes with warrants. Some Democrats refuse to support funding bill that doesn't include restrictions on ICE. The Epstein story isn't going away. Ghislaine Maxwell will testify to Congress. Paul's interaction with the believers in Corinth (2 Corinthians 1:12-24 NLT) shows that even sincere, godly people sometimes need to change their plans. He reassures them that his motives were pure, his conscience clear, and his communication honest, even though he had to disappoint them by not returning as promised. This scenario in scripture reveals an important truth for entrepreneurs and ministry leaders: making promises with good intentions is right, but when circumstances shift, it may be necessary to "unmake" a promise with humility and clarity. Changing direction doesn't mean being unreliable—it means stewarding responsibility well, communicating honestly, and trusting that others will understand as you make decisions aligned with what's best for them and for your calling. I love the movie City Slickers. If you're unfamiliar, Billy Crystal is a Manhattanite, has a midlife crisis, and goes out West on a cattle drive to try to figure life out.Spoiler alert, the crusty old cowboy teaches him that the secret to life is – ‘One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and everything else don't mean shhh…” Well, you get the idea.It struck me that this is a great brand lesson as well. You've seen the stats – our ideal customer simply gets hammered with messages every day. And there are so many things your internal team could work on. How to break through the noise? How to prioritize? I love what my next guest told me – “If you don't have one clear position of who you are and why they should care, you're just throwing spaghetti at a wall.”To hear the story behind that lesson, along with many more lesson-filled stories, I sat down with Margaret Dawson, CMO, Chronosphere [https://chronosphere.io/].Chronosphere has raised $343 million in three rounds. You might have seen the title of this episode and wondered how the idea of pivoting connects to grief. Today, we're exploring what it means to pivot—not just in life, work, or relationships, but specifically in how we navigate grief.Grief can sometimes make us complacent—too comfortable with the routines we've established to cope. We might find ourselves stagnant, unwilling to take steps forward to face our loss in healthier ways. That's when a pivot can make all the difference. Adjusting how we approach, manage, or confront our grief can help us move out of that rut and open up a new perspective—a path toward healing.
Send us a textCan the hustle and bustle of everyday life blur the lines of love and faith in your relationships? Join me, Monique Simmons, as I unravel this crucial question. Life's chaos can easily make us forget the love and accomplishments we've nurtured. By revisiting shared memories and cherishing the vows we've made, we can anchor ourselves in the present and strengthen our relationships. In this episode, we explore how vital it is to pause and appreciate these moments, allowing them to serve as beautiful reminders of what truly matters. As we embark on an exciting new season, let's also remember the promises and character of God and our partners, which are foundational in maintaining healthy relationships. Life's challenges can sometimes cloud our perception, but recalling the positive deeds and intentions of those we hold dear can shift our mindset and bring clarity. Marital vows, much like God's covenant with us, serve as steadfast anchors during tough times. As we look forward, I hope this discussion offers insights and encouragement for a season filled with love and faith. A lecture given at L'Abri Fellowship in Southborough, Massachusetts. For more information, visit https://southboroughlabri.org/ by Joshua Chestnut While we may intuitively think of a life of lazy resignation as being diametrically opposed to a life of hyperactive busyness, our ancestors in the faith may have seen things differently and understood these two common ways of life as being symptomatic of some deeper, spiritual problem, i.e. acedia. Sometimes translated as "sloth," acedia originally identified an internal habit of resistance (or laziness) to the Christian calling of loving God and our neighbor. This lecture will consider acedia in its historical context as well as its contemporary instances while considering what might be its remedy. In this episode, we discuss how some lessons can't be taught, they have to be learned through experience. What does that mean for mentoring less experienced employees?
Sometimes You Need to Be Someone Else Have you allowed yourself to become the person you are on the inside? We all make decisions that change our life trajectory without much thought. That can lead to feelings of being lost on your life path. Maybe it's time to create a new way of seeing yourself. Using a Transitional Identity is a great way to feel confident when you can't believe in your future. The trick is to focus on the smaller steps to your destination. That will allow you to move away from who you are, yet not jump to who you want to be in one big step. “I'm running a successful small business and laying the foundation for my empire. All I have to do is keep moving.” “I'm a great student. Very soon, I will be a great teacher to others. All I have to do is keep moving.” “I'm incredible at losing 1 pound at a time. Soon, I'll hit my goal and weigh 100 pounds. All I have to do is keep moving.” Transitional Identities are temporary and ever-changing. They are helpful when destinations are hard to see before you take your first step. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In the first hour SKOR North's Judd Zulgad talks about the Timberwolves' comeback win over the Heat to thwart any Jimmy Butler revenge game shenanigans and talks about how he's just fine with a brown winter this year, KSTP's Chris Egert has the latest on Midtown Global Market's newest resident, Eddie McYeti, who is horrifying people this holiday season and has the latest on a group of ice fishers that were rescued after the ice they were fishing on broke off and floated out to the middle of the lake.Hour #2 has the crew find out what exactly a millionaire will REFUSE to leave a tip for, plus discover a few helpful tips to deal with any narcissists you may encounter at holiday gatherings this time of the year.In hour #3 Kristyn Burtt discusses what makes you stiff. No, not like that. The other kind. The bad kind. Celine Dion, for example, has an extremely rare disorder that causes her muscles to stiffen up. Jeffrey Epstein's muscles also stiffened up, but that was from rigor mortis so maybe it doesn't count. Or how about the shock from receiving your medical bill? That'll straighten your legs.On the Family, we philosophize about how people cope with the hand they're dealt. Some of us are born with a barely-functional pancreas and have to deal with the ebb and flow of insulin prices. Some of us are over seven feet tall and can't wear pants ever again. And still others can't agree with their significant other about what to watch.
