I just returned from a magical week on the rivers of Germany as a guest of Transcend Cruises. Our stops and excursions included: Koblenz, Cochem, Boppard, Rudesheim, Heidelberg, Speyer, Wiesbaden, Wurzburg and Frankfurt. And I loved every second. As for Transcend, it's a charter-only river cruise line with a fleet of its own purpose-built vessels. The company offers truly customized river cruise journeys with tailor-made itineraries and experiences for any kind of group. So for example, you can hold a destination wedding, or a corporate retreat, or celebrate a milestone birthday with family and friends, or really just about anything! On my sailing, the ship was chartered by the Porsche Club of North America with tailored experiences for car enthusiasts. And of course, there were plenty of cultural options to enjoy for the likes of yours truly. The ship I was on was the Advance and was 5 stars all the way – from the suite to the dining to the staff. Frankly, I didn't want to leave! For more on Transcend, visit: https://www.transcend.cruises/ or tune in to episode 301 of The One Way Ticket Show where our guest was Matthew Shollar, Founder & Chief Visionary of Transcend Cruises. While on board, I had the chance to sit down and chat with the ship's Captain Rob Jager, Head Chef Mihai Tuca, and Transcend's General Manager, Carmen Mladenovic. You can listen to each of those conversations here on The One Way Ticket Show. On this episode, we're featuring our conversation with Chef Mihai. We cover how he plans for a journey, how local cuisines impact menus on the ship, his favorite foods to prepare, what makes Transcend's offering so unique, plus, it being the one way ticket show, of course I had to ask Chef Mihai where he'd go on his one way ticket journey of choice (if you're new to the show, that's the premise of the podcast). Enjoy!

The tour is taking in the castles along the riverbank on the way to Rudesheim. Lisa gets to know Captain Dalton a little better as he leads the tour, sharing his knowledge of the Rhine. But, Candance is avoiding something or someone.
What makes AmaWaterways unique?During the pandemic, they were the only US-based river cruise line that was cruising in Europe, serving guests from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, doing 5-night cruises on the Rhine River. This created a seamless transition moving into this season.AmaWaterways was the first river cruise line to include French balconies and full verandahs. The AmaMagna, launched in 2019, is the most unique river cruise vessel in operation. She is double the width but only carries 20 additional staterooms. On this ship, they put the extra space into the staterooms and amenities. There are four separate dining venues on board, and the average size stateroom is 355 square feet.AmaWaterways has connecting staterooms. This is unique to river cruising. They partner with Adventures By Disney, and Disney requested connecting rooms, for families and friends who travel together. They are the only river cruise line offering 4G network onboard all of their European river cruise ships. When do you have to wear masks onboard? You only wear masks when traversing the ship, such as going from your stateroom to the dining room. This is because in the hallways, people are going to be walking by each other. What will the Medieval Treasures sailing (Nov. 2-9) include? You'll want to download the My AmaCruise app before leaving. It has your day-to-day itinerary on it. You'll be able to enter friends' and family members' e-mails into the app, and each time you arrive into port, it will automatically send them a postcard, alerting them where you are and the history of the place you're visiting.Experience local singers, dancers, and musicians giving performances onboard. The cuisine onboard is spectacular. There are two separate dining rooms: the Main Dining Room, and the Chef's Table. The Main Dining Room serves a variety of fresh, local dishes every evening, and the Chef's Table specialty restaurant offers a European-style tasting experience. You'll receive complimentary soda, beer, and wine with lunch and dinner, and complimentary fruit juices, coffee, tea, sparkling wine or champagne for breakfast. Bottled water, coffee and tea are available constantly. There's also a complimentary cocktail hour each evening before dinner, where you mingle with other guests and hear about the following day's itinerary from the cruise manager, who has some great tips and stories about the places you're visiting. The ship includes a fitness center, spa, salon, and a pool, plus a complimentary wellness program. The wellness host offers fitness classes at 7 and 7:30 am, designed for every level of activity. One shore excursion of your choice is included every day, with free time always included in each port. Complimentary bikes are included as well. The ports are Basel, Switzerland; Strasbourg, France; and Ludwigshafen, Rudesheim, Miltengerg, Kitzingen, and Bamberg, Germany, with disembarkation in Nuremberg. This is truly an idyllic sailing, with beautiful castles, cathedrals, and architecture tucked into green forests and countryside. There are included pre-nights in Lucerne and Zurich, and post-cruise nights in Prague.Contact Barbara for more information: barbara@suitedreamstravel.net, or click on this link: https://barbara6469.wixsite.com/rivercruise2021

Johannes Leitz runs his family's winery, called Leitz, in the Rheingau of Germany.
Join Travel Brigade in Rudesheim, Germany, as we float along the castle-filled Rhine River, while enjoying locally produced riesling wines. Off the water, you can ride a cable car up to the hills above the river and walk through the vineyards while enjoying beautiful views down to the river. This is known as the “Romantic” area of Germany because there are so many castles lining the river, some that you can even stay in. We’ll also tell you how to make a local treat called a flaming-hot “Rudesheim Coffee.” Enjoy the trip! Follow us on Twitter @TravelBrigade.
