Welcome to this new series, “Something Psalmic,” in which I invite my guests to share what's lifting their spirits and offering them healing and hope right now.In this warm and wide-ranging conversation, I'm joined by Jim Deeds, a pastoral worker, poet, and author whose “yes” to God's invitation years ago set him on a winding and spirit-filled path. Formerly a social worker, Jim now serves communities across Ireland ~ mostly in the Catholic sector ~ offering retreats, pilgrimages, and spiritual leadership training rooted in listening and discernment. We talk about that pivotal moment when he first said yes to facilitating a parish group ~ how it unexpectedly changed his life ~ and about what's psalmic in his life right now: a creative writing community that gathered itself around him, almost out of nowhere. In a local café filled with young people from all walks of life, Jim is now witnessing deep honesty, shared pain, and surprising hope through the simple, sacred act of sharing writing with each other.“When God calls, God gifts.”This episode is a reminder that sacred spaces can appear in unexpected places ~ on a pilgrimage, in a café, while walking your dog ~ and that the psalmic invitation to praise, to lament, and to trust is always close by. Jim's story will leave you smiling, stirred, and perhaps even open to the next quiet yes in your own life.Jim's Bio:Jim Deeds is a pastoral worker, author, and poet. He works mainly ~ though not exclusively ~ in the Catholic sector, supporting groups, parishes, and dioceses as they seek to discern God's plan in their lives and communities.Connect with Jim through his social channels:FacebookX (twitter)InstagramFeatured Song:Psalm 133: How Good Is ItComparing harmony between kindred with the holy oil used for anointing in the temple of Jerusalem, this psalm claims that such experiences of community bring fullness of life.Learn more about the Habits for the Spirit Course www.kiranyoungwimberly.com/habits-courseGet involved with “Summer for the Spirit” www.kiranyoungwimberly.com/summerDownload your free guide here: “7 Spiritual Practices for Wellbeing in Uncertain Times”Become a Supporting/Paid SubscriberYou'll get:* Complimentary access to the Habits for the Spirit course* Videos of the conversations in Substack* The Psalms for the Spirit Journal ebook* Invitations to future offerings for supporting subscribers throughout the yearPsalms for the Spirit is a listener-supported publication. It's time for some more Phinish the Phillies! And with all the talk of making a big splash move for a bat, now it time to look at a more complimentary piece to compliment the Phillies lineup. Would you be ok if the Phillies go in for a lesser profile bat instead of a big time star batter?

Crypto lawyer Nelson Rosario returns to the show to discuss the evolving landscape of decentralized AI and his role as General Counsel for the the Advanced AI Society (formerly known as the Decentralized AI Society), an association focused on engineering best practices, advocating for policy, fostering community, and enabling capital formation for decentralized AI startups Nelson discusses the changing definition of decentralization, highlighting its origins in early crypto's focus on resilience and censorship resistance, and its current intersection with artificial intelligence. He explains the core reasons driving decentralized AI efforts: the potential for single service providers to control our access to AI models, computing power, and the data that underlies it all. The conversation explores how decentralized AI aims to offer an alternative to large tech companies like Facebook, Microsoft, and OpenAI, But Nelson also points out the challenges of competing with resource rich organizations and suggests that decentralized AI might complement existing systems by "chopping it up" into distributed components. The discussion also touches upon current players in the decentralized AI space, notably Bitensor and HyperCycle, and highlights the role of decentralized storage solutions like Filecoin and Arweave. Nelson concludes by reflecting on the potentially profound societal impact of AI, likening it to other "tectonic technological revolutions" in human history. Drawing from the "Butlerian Jihad" concept in Frank Herbert's Dune, he cautions against blindly trusting AI and underscores the need for humans to remain intentional in their use of technology to prevent a decline in critical thinking and creativity. Key Takeaways: Decentralization in AI aims to prevent single points of control over models, compute, and data, promoting censorship resistance. Decentralized AI faces challenges in competing with large, centralized tech companies due to their immense resources, but can serve as a complementary set of systems. DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure) is crucial for the robust existence of decentralized AI applications. Industry associations like the Advanced AI Society play a vital role in setting standards, advocating for policy, building community, and attracting capital for decentralized AI projects. AI represents a transformative technological shift, and intentional human engagement is critical to navigate its societal implications.
Welcome to this new series, “Something Psalmic,” in which I invite my guests to share what's lifting their spirits and offering them healing and hope right now.In this episode of Psalms for the Spirit, I'm joined by Rev. Heather Prince Doss ~ an ordained Presbyterian minister, lifelong traveler, and founder of Progressive Pilgrimage, a ministry that guides spiritually rich journeys for open-hearted seekers. With over 16 years in parish ministry and a love for creative expression, Heather shares how travel, art journaling, and sacred disruption have become life-giving practices for her.We talk about the power of stepping outside familiar rhythms, the way art and poetry offer space for praise and lament, and how the most moving moments often arise from the unplanned and unexpected. Heather also reflects on the phrase wonder maker ~ a simple shift in language that offered a whole new way of experiencing the sacred.“What psalmic means to me is to bring all of that praise and lament and need before God in a creative way, whether that's words or music or something more visual.”If you're craving space to breathe, reflect, or reconnect with what grounds you, this conversation offers a gentle invitation to find what's psalmic in your own journey.Heather's Bio:Heather is a born traveler, literally. She was born in Germany to military parents, and a love for the world has never gotten out of her bones. This love has carried her all over the United States, to Central America, Europe, Southern Africa, the Middle East, and even to the Presbyterian United Nations Office as a lowly intern. The same love motivated her ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA) where she served as a parish pastor for over 16 years. Alongside parish ministry, Heather has worked serving unhoused communities. She is the founder and owner of Progressive Pilgrimage where where she now works full time to plan and lead spiritual travel for progressively-minded Christians and faith seekers. She is also a creative soul who loves expressing her faith with (very) amateur artistic pursuits like art journaling, poetry, and a variety of visual arts.Find more about Heather here:www.progressivepilgrimage.com Follow Heather on her social media:facebook: @progressivepilgrimage@heather.p.dossinstagram: @progressivepilgrimage@heather.prince.dossFeatured Song:Psalm 84: How LovelySet to the beautiful air, “Carrickfergus,” this psalm depicts the pilgrimage of faith, through which we are strengthened by God's presence.Learn more about the Habits for the Spirit Course www.kiranyoungwimberly.com/habits-courseGet involved with “Summer for the Spirit” www.kiranyoungwimberly.com/summerDownload your free guide here: “7 Spiritual Practices for Wellbeing in Uncertain Times”Become a Supporting/Paid SubscriberYou'll get:* Complimentary access to the Habits for the Spirit course* Videos of the conversations in Substack* The Psalms for the Spirit Journal ebook* Invitations to future offerings for supporting subscribers throughout the yearPsalms for the Spirit is a listener-supported publication. In this episode, Roy shares an important talk given by his favorite spiritual teacher, Michael Singer. He talks about how to feel love all the time and it was a talk he gave recently in front of a live audience at his temple near Gainesville, Florida. We all want to feel love. When you wake up you realize that all our pursuits, relationships or otherwise, are ultimately about finding and feeling love. And that's not a problem. In fact, it's natural and normal. The issue is that most of us believe that in order to feel love, we need to find our ideal partner, our soulmate. But Michael points out that we can feel love all the time, with or without a life partner, but more importantly, he shares HOW to feel love all the time. Don't miss this important message. Click here to send me a text message (include your contact info if you want a reply). My book is out now, Talking to Trees: A Journey into Soul. It chronicles my exploration of the soulful terrain on the far side of conventional religion, where talking to trees, communing with the dead, and summoning our spirit guides is the new normal. To give you a taste of the book, I am sharing with you the chapter from which the book draws its title. Talking to trees, it would seem, is no different from any other form of prayer, especially in the childlike trust required not to doubt. The book is available at all the usual online outlets. But I'm offering you an incentive to buy it from me, either online or in person, before September 30, 2025. If you do, I'll sign it and, if you agree, enter your name in a draw to win: (1) a live house concert of tunes and tales (if you live in Southern Alberta); or (2) a live or online visit with your book club or a gathering of friends, to discuss the themes of the book; or (3) an extended personal conversation with me about your own journey into soul. Music is an incredibly powerful and enjoyable artform. Not only does it make us want to sing along and dance, but it can move us to tears, open our hearts and inspire our souls. Yet, as amazing as many songs are, the message they contain can be magnificent or their message can be complete madness. This 4-part series explores around a dozen amazing and famous songs—half with messages that are complete madness, and therefore, should be ignored, and half with messages that are magnificent and should be adopted. This is the final installment of the series and you'll hear three more songs that contain messages that are so healthy and wonderful that we all should live by their words. In this episode, you'll hear songs that promote… · Handling difficulty and challenge with grace; · Not letting grief or loss close your heart and shut you down; · How to respond to criticism, judgment and haters; · What to do when you feel lost and hopeless; · And much, much more! Welcome to this new series, “Something Psalmic,” in which I invite my guests to share what's lifting their spirits and offering them healing and hope right now.In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Almut Furchert, a German-American scholar, therapist, philosopher, and founder of Cloister Seminars. Raised in a pastor's family in East Germany and now living in the American Midwest, Almut brings a deep well of wisdom drawn from psychology, monastic spirituality, and personal experience of cultural exile and spiritual homecoming.“It's the connection to the soul; it's singing the Psalms. It's like breathing in and breathing out. It's the food for the soul.”—Dr. Almut FurchertTogether, we explore what it means to live a “psalmic” life—one shaped by sacred rhythms, seasons, and the soul's quiet longings. Almut shares how her healing journey was nurtured through the Benedictine monasteries of the Midwest, where the daily chanting of Psalms became food for the soul and a sanctuary for rediscovering sacred work. She also speaks beautifully about Hildegard of Bingen, music as soul-practice, and the quiet yet powerful rituals that anchor her daily life.If you're longing for peace, grounding, and inspiration in uncertain times, this conversation will offer you a gentle invitation to find your own sacred rhythm, and perhaps, something psalmic in your life, too.Follow Almut's Substack at https://cloisternotes.substack.com/Find Almut's writings and teachings on www.cloisterseminars.org.Featured Song: Psalm 1: Their DelightThis first Psalm, set to the Irish traditional tune BánChnoic Éirann Ó, speaks of being like trees planted in streams of water, where we can flourish and thrive.Find out more about “Summer for the Spirit” at www.kiranyoungwimberly.com/summerDownload your free guide: “7 Spiritual Practices for Wellbeing in Uncertain Times”Become a Supporting/Paid SubscriberYou'll get: * Complimentary access to the Habits for the Spirit course* Videos of the conversations in Substack * The Psalms for the Spirit Journal ebook* Invitations to future offerings for supporting subscribers throughout the yearPsalms for the Spirit is a listener-supported publication. Music is an incredibly powerful and enjoyable artform. Not only does it make us want to sing along and dance, but it can move us to tears, open our hearts and inspire our souls. Yet, as amazing as many songs are, the message they contain can be magnificent or their message can be complete madness. This 4-part series explores a dozen amazing and famous songs—half with messages that are complete madness, and therefore, should be ignored, and half with messages that are magnificent and should be adopted. In this first installment of the series, Roy, our host, explores three amazing songs that contain messages that are unhealthy, dysfunctional and dangerous, and therefore, they are songs you can love but shouldn't listen to. In this episode, you'll hear songs that promote… · Co-dependence and drama; · The Soulmate Syndrome; · The “You Complete Me” mindset; · Rescuing as an expression of love; · And much, much more. As we celebrate Father's Day, it's important to know that 70% of American children grow up without their father living in the home with them—and it's been that way since the early ‘90's. This has had a catastrophic impact on children, leading to poverty, violence, poor performance in school and a host of other tragic consequences. Fathers, and the masculine energy in general, are critically important to the family and the culture at large. So, in this episode, Roy discusses how and why fatherhood and masculinity have taken such a beating in our cultural discourse, and how to rebuild and restore the healthy masculine in men today. In this episode, you will learn… · Why men, and the masculine, are seen as unnecessary and even toxic; · How TV and movies have played a central role in diminishing men and fathers; · What women can do to help men grow and be their best; · What men can do for other men to change the negative narrative; · And much, much more. Ep #316 - Sobriety and recovery are vast journies apart from one another as sobriety is the decision to no longer use a substance or behavior to reduce, negate, or buffering through your feelings and emotions, and recovery is the journey you make to understand why you needed a behavior or substance to buffer in the first place. As you begin to adventure within yourself, you are going to uncover many things you didn't even realize are a part of this landscape that you are now face-to-face with. I wish there were a magic wand that you could wave and be all better, BUT then I wonder if any of us would value our long-term addiction recovery if it were that easy to "fix" as often we only value things that are hard-won and can be easily lost.
