In this episode, we talk with author Sara Hagerty about the importance of worshipping God as part of our prayer lives and how we can practically make it happen in even the smallest moments of our days.Sara is a wife to Nate and a mother of seven whose arms stretched wide across the expanse between the United States and Africa. After almost a decade of Christian life, she was introduced to pain and perplexity and, ultimately, intimacy with Jesus. God met her and moved her when life stopped working for her. And out of the overflow of this perplexity, came her writing, both on her blog and in her books – Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet & Unseen: The Gift of Being Hidden in a World that Loves to be Noticed, and ADORE: A Simple Practice for Experiencing God in the Middle Minutes of Your Day, all three published by Zondervan.Sara's Website | Sara's InstagramThings mentioned in today's episode:Prayer Journal by Val Marie PaperPray Confidently and Consistently by Valerie WoernerYou Satisfy My Soul by Laura Hackett ParkAdore by Sara HagertyVal's new book on prayer is now available! My friend Amy Wicks joins me today. Amy is one of those people that I met at a conference simply because we sat down next to each other and about 10 minutes later we were fast friends. Amy is a wife and mother to 3. She is the voice of the weekly Simply Wholehearted Podcast which i had the honor of being a guest. She leads The Simply Wholehearted online community on Facebook and serves as Director of Mom's Ministry at Radiant Church in Kansas City. She has recently co-authored with Sara Hagerty The Unseen Way, a book study created for Unseen: The Gift of Being Hidden in a World that Loves to be Noticed. But for today’s conversation, Amy joins me to talk about creating an intentional summer with your kids. She has created an amazing course called Simply Summer and I highly recommend taking advantage of this course. In this conversation, we talk about what makes summers so difficult for moms, how we can survive summer with intentionality, how we can own our time instead of it owning us, how to create meaningful minutes, and how to help our kids set goals for what they want to accomplish over summer. You don’t need to be a saint or spiritual master to find God. You don’t need to have all the answers to find honest faith. You need only to wander bravely into the unknown, into uncertainty, where you can probe and question freely. When you give yourself permission to doubt, when you dare to ask difficult questions, you find unexpected gifts hidden along the trail. This series is for anyone who feels awkward or unsettled in their search for God, anyone who seeks to find holiness amid their holy mess, and anyone who prefers practicality to piety when it comes to finding their place in this world.

Carpool Diem with best-selling author Sara Hagerty chats about her new book (Unseen: The Gift of Being Hidden in a World That Loves to Be Noticed) and that for which every heart longs: to be seen, known and understood. "We often feel guilt over our desire to be seen, so we suppress it. But, we were made to be seen," Sara shares. "We have connection and friendships, but there's still a deep knowing that can only come from God." Sara Hagerty is the author of Unseen: The Gift of Being Hidden in a World That Loves to Be Noticed, and together with Blaine and Sam she talks about her journey with the church, burnout, discovering God in new ways, her lessons as a mother, and how choosing to tend to the unnoticed places in our lives can be the most rewarding.
Sara Hagerty is a wife, mother and writer - in that order. Like many of us, she grew up dreaming of being a mom. But after having her heart broken again and again by negative pregnancy tests, she accepted that God's path for her life didn't look much like what she had envisioned. Sara and her husband are now the adoptive parents of four African children, as well as two biological children. Her journey has lead her not only to the family God has designed for her, but into a closer relationship with Him and a search to see herself through His eyes.
